  • Welcome to my channel about gem cutting. This video is about faceting a gem in cubic zirconia material . This synthetic (man made) material has a high refractive index which makes for a sparkly gemstone.
    I cut with an ultra tec v2 faceting machine with a digital angle display upgrade.
    I sell finished jewelry and gemstones in my eysy.com store : www.etsy.com/shop/Gemsbymbk?r...
    I have a pinterest board for faceting designs and other related interests.

      Thank you john, i think with the very sharp points, this gem cut would not be very practical to mount into jewelry although there maybe a way to .

      Thank you, its not difficult to cut but t care is needed with the sharp points as they can be chipped very easily.

    Great video, why a copper lap on the pavilion and a tin on the crown?

    • @tennpikr74
      @tennpikr74  Před 3 lety +2

      The copper lap is a prepolish lap used for 8k diamond , the tin is for final polish using 60k diamond. sometimes if i can see a way to make a shortcut i will eliminate a step in the cutting and polishing procedure. Once i cut a pavillion and see how the m aterial is reacting to the laps and compounds i might change my strategy later on the crown . Also the smaller the stone the finer the disc that can be used for cutting.

    Hi Brent you got me really interested in gem faceting how much will it cost for me to get into it as a hobby?

    • @tennpikr74
      @tennpikr74  Před 3 lety +1

      If you can get a used american made machine such as a graves , you can start for under $1000.
