How gemstones are made. Faceting ametrine, i think.

  • In this video i cut a piece of ametrine which is amethyst and citrine , both quartz minerals, just different colors. The reason i say in the title (i think ) is that once i got the stone cut the smaller section of citrine is lost in the amethyst color. So the stone mostly looks like a pure amethyst. The reason i couldnt center the dividing line between both shades of color is that the one corner of the citrine was already shorter causing the entire stone to be made smaller.
Regardless, the stone came out very nice.
I want to thank dean for providing the rough gemstone.

Thank you john, i will try again on a piece to get the color between the 2 even , maybe a step cut would be better suited for it.

It's sad that the citrine part was all but lost, but it's a beautiful stone regardless!

Hi Brent, another piece of brilliance. How much would that be worth you reckon? I'm working on a bit of smokey and an amethyst. Seperate stones of course.

Hi and thanks. I think maybe it could sell for $100 to the right person. Id like to see your work sometime.
