  • The Moty KE 3000 is a machine that harvests pumpkin seeds. The device positions pumpkins into a straight line then picks them up with a large spiked wheel. Inside the machine, a four-part drum crushes the pumpkins and separates all the seeds for an easy harvest. Moty also sells other pumpkin harvesting machines that can dry and wash the seeds.

    To the viewers:
From what I've read, the flesh of this particular species of pumpkin isn't viable for human consumption. Tastes horrible. But the seeds are good. The trade off is that it fertilizes the soil for the next crop.

NOTE! The pumpkins they crush are those of reject or undergrowth after the season, they crush them to get the seeds then shoot out the remains as fertilizer for the next batch of crops.

It’s my uneducated guess that if you remove all the pumpkins you’d also be removing a lot of nitrogen, which would have to go back as artificial fertiliser. As wasteful as this appears to be, I think it’s a pretty efficient compared to an alternative when considering the harvest, seeding, and fertilisation is all happening in one step

Tyler kay I would love to what those varieties are. I wouldn't trying the flesh of these types to compare with pumpkin grown for flesh. As far as the seeds from either are concerned, I've had the chance to try them both (There aren't but so many reasons to farm pumpkin seeds, production of snacks being one of them) and found no noticeable difference between the two. As far as I can tell, there just isn't really any practical justification for wasting this much food.

Think of it as enriching the soil so it's not exhausted. It speeds up crop rotation ensuring there will always be pumpkin seeds. If they didn't do this you would exhaust the soil of nutrients in the 3rd year. It wouldn't grow anything for years. It's recycling ala mother nature.

If you want to extract it cleanly without destroying the pumpkin, you would have to do it by hand which would be incredibly inefficient, expensive, and not viable.

That has not one goddamn thing to do with what you're saying in this these pumpkins are special type that are grown specifically for seeds. Once the seeds are extracted the remaining flesh that tastes like shitt by the way is put back in the field to help compost back and refertilize the field reducing need for additional fertilizer use the next year. This is standard farming 101 folks you do the same thing with corn you chop up 95% of the plant and only take the seeds.

Unless those are sugar pumpkins, they aren't used for things like pie. They are most likely used for Halloween. It's not a waste a food for these pumpkins to be shredded up like this. If this thing is harvesting sugar pumpkins, the shredded pumpkin would provide nutrients to the seeds, so it still wouldn't be a waste. Pumpkins are not a food we need to worry about not wasting.

this is what wrong with food in america,, you guys are picky eater, you only eat certain kind of fish, certain kind of pumpkin, take seafood for example, i seen a looot of video about fish that can grow soooo big but nobody want to eat it, because the "taste" and choose to eat something that you need to import from outside america, no wonder 90% seafood that american consume is imported stuff
