Yes I use pumkin seeds , sprouted or regular sunflower seeds and cashews for flour substitutes. Makes a great pizza crust too . All 3 can be mixed in equal parts . All are way better than almond flour. Don't forget to sift them first .👍
I only have to rinse the seeds in a seive for less than a min to separate from the pulp. Then about 10 min at 180°C. Then they are dried & roasted. Never thought that can eat the shells or grind into powder. Thanks 💐
Thanks! I have about 10 pie pumpkins I’m getting ready to dehydrate. The last batch I did, for some reason my chickens weren’t excited about them like they usually are. So, thanks to you, this time I’m keeping the seeds for us !! By the way, I powdered some of the dehydrated pumpkins, and I add that to all kinds of dishes, too. I just added some to spaghetti sauce last night and nobody noticed. Powdering is a great way to get more good stuff in our diets👍🏻
Diane - Yes! I dehydrate the pumpkin. (I also have an Excalibur and love it.) Scoop out the seeds and goop. Peel the rind. (I like to use a knife, but some prefer a vegetable peeler.) Then decide how you’re going to use it because it makes a difference in this next step. I dice some into 1/4” dices and dehydrate. I use those for soups or stews. But I shred most of it. I’ll save some of the shreds for soups and stews also, but most of that I’ll then go on to powder. (Well, I try to powder it, but I don’t have the best blade on my processor, so it turns out more like granules.) You can even add it into baked goods. It adds fiber and great vitamins and minerals. Oh, I powder the shreds because it’s really hard on the motor trying to powder the dices. I processed 3 pie pumpkins (about 7 inch diameter) and they fit into a pint jar as a powder.
I supplement with potassium and magnesium to prevent leg and foot cramps. Due to compromised circulation in my left leg from sciatica, it is very prone to cramping. Oh. Calcium also helps prevent muscle cramps.
So you can eat the shell? What nuttients are in the shell and what detriments can it do to eat too much shell? How long do you store your dried seeds and your ground seeds for?
Thanks for all the benefits of Pumpkin seed. What I was looking for was How to shell them . But now I am going to powder them and use them in my oatmeal & smoothy.
I use them crushed for my Cockatiels so they have a healthy treat and it keeps the worms away. And yes birds have worms and they can make your bird very lethargic and sick. Now I've read your post the birds are going to learn to share their treats .
I had no idea that the pumpkin seed was what i needed to supplement with. Not just for me, but for my pets too! Thank you, thank you! May God bless you, your family, and farm.
Very important! I shared it on Google+ and shared the link via cell phone. I dry my seeds on a cookie cooling rack overnight. It's dry inside with our wood stove going so it doesn't take long at all. Love the powder idea! Our vegetable seeds (pumpkin, butternut, Red Kuri, acorn squash and bell pepper) never see the trash bin. Chickens and turkeys love them. Thank you for sharing. 👍
Should we eat Pumpkin Seeds with the Shell or after removing the Shell. Shelled Pumpkin Seeds are available in Market and sold. Please advise Thanks and regards. Mukerji, India
@@alokmukerji9835 I see so many videos where people grind and or give the whole seeds with the shell to their pets😬 which i believe to be wrong. I peel them first and or grind the green seeds found on the inside, despite of it taking more effort, that seems more logic to me. The shell is hard and i doubt that part got any nutritional value. Imo it's better to remove the shell and get to the green edible seed.
I know Im asking randomly but does anyone know a way to log back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly lost the login password. I appreciate any tips you can give me
Thanks for sharing. Pumpkin seeds are one of the seeds I consume on a daily basis, however I used to buy them from wellness stores, thanks tp you I will now save mine from home and turn them into powder.
I am wanting to vacuum seal some pumpkin seed powder in jars to put in the pantry. How long is the shelf life . Thank you for your video it's so informative.
Thanks for sharing the video❤ am so glad to have come across this article; I can now utilize my seeds to the uptimum. I only used to just plant them for pumkins.
Hi. Just found your channel. I was looking for info on how to roast pumpkin seeds and this video was amazing. Was wondering, how much pumpkin powder should someone have daily for the nutrients? Thanks!
I put it in my morning oatmeal, I mix it in my soups, chilis and stews as a thickener. I also add it to my dog's food. I know they are high in fiber and good fat, but how do they rate in protein?
According to my search it's 12g per cup, but that's before they are ground up. Maybe after being turned into powder we could expect 12g per half cup or so.
Having some roasted pumpkin seeds as a snack is really nice. I'm always in front of the computer and having a handful of seeds once a day is really nice to munch on while playing games.
yep, works for us. We still do this and use it in some way several times a week. We add it to oatmeal for breakfast and also mix it into a "Salmon Patti" for dinner.
You mentioned it can be put on dog food to de-worm them, what about cats? And does that mean ALL worms? Also, does it matter what type of pumpkins the seeds are from? Great video. Very informative. I just dried out a bunch of seeds and am ready to roast them in the oven tomorrow...
Deborah 78, I'll answer what I've heard since this video is older, I don't know if they check comments on older videos.... As far as I know it doesn't matter what variety of pumpkins. And I've heard that farmers give them to their cows and pigs, so I'm sure it would help cats too. 🐈 🙂
I don't know if you can do a 1 for 1 replacement, but I bet you could add a little and it would be good. If you try it I'd love to know what you think.

How can I remove the hard shell?
Ma'am you can boil with water and once it is cooled you can remove it.
I only have to rinse the seeds in a seive for less than a min to separate from the pulp. Then about 10 min at 180°C. Then they are dried & roasted. Never thought that can eat the shells or grind into powder. Thanks 💐

Will you be dehydrating the seeds or air drying? I air dry ours on cookie cooling racks overnight.
J Kid -- You dehydrate the actual pumpkin flesh ? Never thought to do that-- would love instruction on that please. I have an Excaliber dehydrator
LilBit - I’ve never done the seeds, so I’ll try it like he says in the video. We have high humidity, so air drying alone rarely works for me.

Eating some raw pumpkin seeds will clear all the discomfort all out of your mind and make your mood calm and peaceful.

I have 40 pumpkins to get through this year, i plan on making use of as much of the seeds as i can. Thanks for this video

Pumpkin seeds are great for a keto diet, highest protein to carb ratio.
That's good to know! Thank you.
When you split a pumpkin open, it’s shaped like the prostate! Very interesting
I use the rinse water to mix with shreadded cardboard and add to the worm compost

Glad it was helpful!

I did not know that. I am not good with snacking on pumpkin seeds at all, but I am going to try this.
I like that we're not roasting them to preserve those nutrients

Yes it works on cats too. Holistic veterinarians highly recommend it 😁
When you say to dry them in the oven for a "long time," what does that mean? Half an hour? 8 hours? 24 hours? Also, at what temperature? Thanks!
Why eat the shell?
Fiber and minerals
Can I chew it just like that, without anything ?
Hola. Compré las semillas para una ensalada.. vienen sin pelar.
I'll definitely be doing this thank you
Thank you for sharing.
Very important to our daily health.
Wondering about the seed husk. Assuming it is pure fiber and all the nutrients are in the seed proper.
We just blend it all up together. You are probably right that the husk is mostly just fiber, but hey... fiber is good for you too :)
thanks so much
Grind shells too ?
What nutrition is there in the shell?
Is Amy sort of pumpkin ok to use
How is it used for migraine headache
Can a pumpkin powder be used as pumpkin flour and I heard it’s good for your diabetes to lower your blood sugar is that true.

Hallo is there a need to cook the powder in porridge?
Can the powder be used instead of flour in a recipe ?
I don't know if you can do a 1 for 1 replacement, but I bet you could add a little and it would be good. If you try it I'd love to know what you think.
Fantastic information thank you..
I've just finished dehydrating a Jarrahdale blue and will put the seeds in the dehydrator tomorrow
I love pumpkin seed oil on salads but it’s difficult to find in the US. Definitely more common in the UK and Austria / Germany.
So, you don't shell them first?
nope
