When I'm separating the seeds from the stringy stuff I put everything into a bowl and fill it up with cold water. Then I stir a bit and dip the stuff up and down into the water and all the seeds will float up! Easy to fish out with your palms or a strainer, and it's a really quick way to do it! :)

    @OctopusVolcano Před 8 lety +4

Since you asked what other people have done, I use normal pumpkins. I try leaving some pulp, I think it adds a bit more flavor during the roasting process. Also, I usually don't use the air dry technique. I start the process right after I dig them out of a pumpkin (super fresh.) By hand, I'll mix the seeds with the seasoning and a dash of oil in a bowl ...Cumin, salt, pepper, basil and surprisingly a small squirt of lemon which adds a nice touch. If you want extra spice add a pinch of chili powder. All the baking techniques you demonstrated are very similar to what I do. Baking sheet, oil, etc. I actually like to mix them around every 10 minutes. Therefore it takes more time to roast. And I use 400 temp on a convectional oven.
However, this upcoming autumn I intend to try new techniques. Yours will be will be one of them! They look delicious! Subscribed

First time ever, didn't know how to carve a pumpkin. I've done it, hopefully its correct. I took out the shreds and seeds. I was surprised how super easy the seeds detached. As a child my cousin & I used to wash honeydew seeds. They're a pain. I thought this was too. WRONG. I use different seeds in my homemade breads. Pumpkin seeds my fav. So I was messaging this girl feom Facebook. She said have you ever roasted them? I was like whaaaaaaaa, as in washed, dried and in oven? She said yes, mix whatever your fav spices are, sprinkle mix & roast. I said forget that, I'll just roast and snack on them. Yours is the first video I clicked on. I'm hooked thanks. 😊😊😊😊👌👌👌👌

Great Recipe! Here's my recipe for making roasted pumpkin seeds as a Gen-Xer in 1979.
    1. Buy large pumpkins. Dad will pay for the heaviest pumpkin you can carry.
    2. Make Jack-lantern unsupervised, be sure to use any/all knives in kitchen
    3. Collect seeds from all of your siblings pumpkin carvings
    4. Wash and soak in salt water for 12-24 hours, or 30 minutes if you're only 8 years old.
    5. Put on a roasting pan with, no oil, because, again, you're 8.
    6. Put in oven (at 350° , because everything in the 80s was cooked at 350°)
    7. Watch 'It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown' for the 5th year in a row.
    8. Forget about Pumpkin seeds being roasted,... because Snoopy.
(Commercial Break- When i bite into a York Peppermint Patty, etc, etc, etc)
    9. Smell something burning.
    10. Run to kitchen. Pull sheet pan of burnt pumpkin seeds out of oven.
    11. Eat the 25% of pumpkin seed that are not black.
    12. Enjoy!

I’m weird. I pick the stringy stuff out but don’t rinse the seeds a lot because so like the flavor the pumpkin leaves behind. But I do the same recipe, otherwise!

Lucky I checked this out as I've just put them straight into the oven without drying them. I did wonder about it. No damage done. Phew!
    For non-US viewers 350F = 176.7C (say 180)
Following day - Applied the oil with salt an pepper then popped them in the oven (180C) . Forgot how much time was needed so having got distracted AGAIN came back here to check by which time they'd had about 20 maybe more minutes in the oven. The oven doesn't heat evenly so I ended up with dark brown and light brown seeds but they are delicious and taste like pork crackling. I will definitely try this again!

You actually dont need to get rid of the goop, the big hunks of pulp you probably should but the slickness of the seeds is good not bad

Yes, i buy the raw pumpkin seeds. I roast them all the time with both olive and avocado oil and pink salt. The store bought roasted seeds generally come with a less desirable oil like soybean. After they come out of oven, I spread out on paper towel to soak up any excess oil ... then store in small mason jars with the white screw top lids vs metal lids. The small jars are ideal to pack in purse, etc for snack.

Great advice for roasting. But please Dani, as you rinse, catch the water in an extra bowl. Take it out to the yard or garden. Conserve, conserve.

    Thanks for the video!
I live in a warm and sunny environment, so I dry the seeds outside for a few days before baking them.
With the pumpkin, I stuffed it with duck, leeks, celery, garlic, thyme and sage...oh, and cream. I put in the oven and bake until yummy.

I’m using this video to help me make roasted lupine seeds. It’s very key to soak them in salt water first and let them dry out again before roasting. The salt water trick is what makes them edible.

Meaning taking everything out since we just usually paint a small/medium pumpkin, but this year we went BIG and my boyfriend was telling me how his mom used to make these...So I said why not and Ooommmggg I followed your recipe and they came out great...They taste better than the ones they sell at the store...Thank you...

TYler Vandall I found three recipes and all had different temps. So I just chose 325. I accidentally forgot about them and they cooked much longer than the recipe said. But it turned out great. I think they cooked for about 30 min. I was able to crack them open easily. I've been standing at my kitchen counter eating the seeds and watching CZcams videos. MUST. STOP. AND. START. THE. DAY! Ha!
