Vincent Freeman (Ethan Hawke) has always fantasized about traveling into outer space, but is grounded by his status as a genetically inferior "in-valid." He decides to fight his fate by purchasing the genes of Jerome Morrow (Jude Law), a laboratory-engineered "valid." He assumes Jerome's DNA identity and joins the Gattaca space program, where he falls in love with Irene (Uma Thurman). An investigation into the death of a Gattaca officer (Gore Vidal) complicates Vincent's plans.

As someone who scrolls youtube comments trying to figure out if movies are good.
I've just fished the movie and its an absolute masterpiece. You wont regret watching it.
You’re so happy to watch it just yesterday
The time when CGI did not mean everything.....🤔🤔🤔🤨🤨
100% agree (just watched it yesterday)
It's a reverse engineered cloned designer eugenics baby created by the CIA with nanites on Y1Y2.
Ok ill take your word for it and let u know when im finished.
This movie is getting more relevant as time progresses.
nope.... the reality is its about money, not who you are.... thats the reality... unfortunately no one gives a crap how healthy someone is... you can buy into anything
@@ofifgamerz2272 Very wrong. It’s not about anything physical. Our bodies hold something they are after. You can’t take money, car or anything with you. So there is something. But money is worthless where we’re going
Came from JONATHAN Kim's interview

It did say in the not so distant future
If you haven't seen this movie already let me tell you it's a must watch, it is easily in my top ten of best films of all time and I'm old..
even in top 5

This film is art. A hidden gem. Trailer doesn't do it justice.
Yeah man this trailer sucks, I haven’t watched this movie yet but this trailer didn’t hype me
Back in the days the movies are better than the trailers, now a day it’s the other way around.
yeah, the struggle to prove you're more than a bag of cells is way more central than the crime twist they focused on in the trailer. Ethan Hawke and Jude Law were chef's kiss in making the atmosphere for that
watching it now. i remember seeing it a while back as a kid but re-watching it.
This movie proves that to make a fabulous science fiction movie we don't need CGIs. Almost every frame and picture could become a movie poster. Intellectual value of this movie is expressed in simplicity of pictures, architecture and lighting of every scene. This is a work of art. As a CGI artist I should support my industry but as a passionate of good cinema I say less CGI is more. This story will become our reality at some point and unfortunately it will not be as beautiful as these pictures.
Great comment. this movie is superb
hey I also wanted tell that, Michal, really a great comment and you are describing things very well. you shouldnt be not only a CGI artist to be honest, maybe you already have a book or so?
I highly doubt this! I refuse to let someone in a lab coat determine what one should or should not be allowed to do... There's a lot a person can change in their genes, all depending on what they do.
No it will be much more beautiful than this pictures. As gene therapy can stop aging and make people immortal, cure all disieses and literally kill death. Everybody will have the time then to do whatever they want anf for as long as they want. There will be no need to berry your dreams just to survive.
I do CG for a living as well and this is also my sentiment, having seen a number of very thought-provoking masterpieces that use little-to-no CG. You just can't beat good writing and practical effects.
this movie actually tells about today and tomorrow
The society of Gattaca is the society that the oligarchs and the World Economic Forum are creating for us during the pandemic. It is the "New Normal".
@@fearofmusic1312 it's their new normal. While we only need to realize that our future can be so bright, that we are the makers...they could never create this nightmare without our silent consent🙄
@@fearofmusic1312 except there won't be people like Vincent who ll be able to cheat the system
One friend mentioned this movie to me,I watched it long ago and forgotten the story.
It also reflects society even to its very beginning.
Nobody talks about this masterpiece…
Nice pfp Patrick how’s Allen?
@@almighty5839 Paul is in London. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to return some tapes.
Trailer is a bit hokey, but this film is a masterpiece. Stylish, smart, moving-- a cinema lover's film.
The trailer is poor. Wrong kind of music for a start.
This is one of the most i wont ever forget. Such underrated movie! Best ever movies i've ever watch!
This film is simply a work of art..
Boring movie
I saw this in 10th grade biology as our last unit was about genes, and ofc the main ones that make it up G, A, T, C all of which make up our biology.
And even it had a worksheet with it, I still couldn’t help but watch it and be absolutely immersed and adored this movie. For whatever reason I was hooked, I didn’t want it to end. I just it, it felt like they predicted the future and all of its parts.
We watched this in high school biology too lol. In Oregon
The people who make the movies, have the money, and propagate the future due to their control over all the major levels of power in global human infrastructure
Now when CRISPR and anti ageing is taking form I think this is not to far off.
i watched this in hs for 10th grade bio too! jersey baby
I just watched this in biology today (9th grade). I loved it!
Happy 25th Anniversary for one of the most important science fiction films ever made. It was the first film that I saw Jude Law in and it's still one of his best performances.
One of my all time favorite movies. Absolutely amazing and underrated.
THE MOST UNDERRATED MOVIE EVER! Andrew Nicol has something to say to you with this masterpiece and he says it in such a calm and brilliant way and at the same time screams in your face: "Have the will to achieve your dreams, it is invincible even against the power of perfection genes!". One of the best movies ever made. 1997 and still so modern and contemporary and will continue to be so for another 1000 years.
What a bad trailer for such masterpiece
cap?
The whole film is beautiful.. I had it on dvd because i loved the title sequence.. This trailer put me off 😂
totaly daccordich !!!!!!
Typical 90s trailer, that voice...
True
I remember watching this in high school during dna lessons, thought it was boring , now 23 watching it, man this is a great film
One of the greatest movies I’ve seen sadly it’s super underrated and rarely seen or talked about. Also I always wonder if they eventually married and had children would they make him genetically perfect or let fate decided.
He has invalid genes. Can't live longer. He knew his fate but he never gave up his dream( watch the movie and you'll know what his dream) and I think its enough for him.
Isn't it too predictable to be underrated? If you create a dystopian movie, introduce characters that want to switch their identities for social role, it's pretty clear how movie will go.
It's unpopular because it's predictable for most serious watchers and too distant for most casual watchers.
And get this... in 2020. 2 Women got the nobel prize of chemistry for figuring out Gene Editing.
Gattaca is real now. And ethics all over the world are going nuts.
it was already speculative fiction when it came out
gene modification of newborns is happening already now, we are not far from Gattaca
Cloning was possible a long time ago
@@alexsazo9540 but not Gene Editing.
@@clawofthefallen Ethics should have been going nuts when cloning was introduced. Gene editing seems harmless but will contribute to overpopulation of the earth.
This movie is slowly becoming a reality for many of us.
Today was set in this movie. We are now in this movie- or at least the prequel to it.
My favourite movie ever.
So, this is a documentary for the 2030 plan, then? 😵💫
Highly underrated masterpiece.
My favorite movie ever! So emotional!!! So beautiful!
I am wondering why so few people talk about this movie? It's even entertaining and super relevant.
I watched this in biology class, true master class piece of cinema
wow, i first watched this in biology class over 10 years ago! glad to see teachers are still showing this masterpiece.
my bio teacher recommended this video, can't wait to watch! It seems like a great movie because of the comments.
I also watched this in 10th grade like 3 years ago
I’ve always loved this movie. I actually wish they’d do a reboot using the knowledge and technology we have now. It’s all advanced so rapidly since this came out.
Hmmm. How do you think it should be changed?
Nah A modern reboot will only make a CGI crapfest
it's gene editing, it hasn't gone that far since then, at least not in terms of what you can show on film. or do you mean technology of filmmaking? like you want CGI and stuff? this movie was low budget and is famous for using low-tech methods to create a set that looks like the future. i guess a remake could make it look better technically but it would lose a certain charm.
You mean remake! Remakes are telling the same story as the original.
A true reboot is telling a completely different story to a franchise like Batman begins or rise of the planet of the apes
easy one of thr best movies ive ever seen. they dont make such movies anymoe. it makes you feel. it make you think. it makes you grow. it is art. it is a creation that is creating. beautiful.
I saw this in 8th grade science class and I've been searching for it for more than 10 yrs. I found it!! 🎉🤣
Once you start something, don't stop. Don't save anything for the swim back.
for me this is a masterpiece movie, in my top level movies and i come back to it again
If you were not born perfect, this movie is perfect for you.
watched this in 10th grade biology. it was fantastic
"Gattaca" now is reality.
Just watched this again for first time since it came out....wow. it holds up really well. Loved it. So much better than these fast paced pieces of junk these days.
First watched this movie for a college assignment, and it absolutely moved me. It's a definite must watch.
Superb film!!
I love Uma Thurman ❣️ there is no gene for the human spirit 💜
I remember this was on TV one night, really late. I was about 11 and stayed up watching it till 2 am. Absolutely hooked and still think about it today.
My Favorite movie of all time.
This movie was a warning, and at the time of its release I did not take it seriously.
Just like Deus Ex.
My biology teacher showed us this movie in class when we were learning about genetics and dna. It was so interesting
So cool that I got to watch this back in high school
Watched this in 7 th grade science it was a really good movie
Everything about this movie has been chanelled and will eventually become true
highly underrated movie
2021 and Never was this Movie that near, realistic and creepy…
a so deep story of sacrifice and discrimination, that show how a man despite the obstacles can reach his dreams, although because the ways to acheive it, always have unexpected consequences, even in middle a civilization marked for a new ''breed'' of discrimination, a person still have a opportunity to explore his humanity, a powerful narrative, that never will be forgotten, perhaps this not is only a film, is a warning for all mankind, a masterpiece that teaches how could be the future for all, if leave behind the value of what makes us humans.
Just watched it in 2022.
It scares me that future generations could have to experience an ethical dilemma related to genetics similar to the one portraited in the movie!
We experience this now, not with genetics precise to the cellular level, but precise to phenotype (physical looks). People can “pass” as white or another race, and those that do get treated like the elite. This is what colorism, and racism is. When genes mutate and people have characteristics that are different from most others, it gives us a chance to see how life can be and how to protect ourselves from weak spots. For example, having blue eyes is a mutation. Brown is known to better protect the eye from the sun than green or blue. However, if we never had folks with blue or green eyes, we wouldn’t learn about the dangers of the sun to vision, or have been given the chance to be kind to one another and try to help out if someone is struggling (like knowing to not look at the sun or spend lots of time in the sun if your eyes or body is paler). Statistics do not lie, but someone is controlling those statistics, and it isn’t in the suffering’s favor.
I never viewed this movie as dystopian. It a movie of hope for a near future where most of our illnesses and ailments are becoming a thing of the past. A world of health, vigor, and expanded lifespans.
Underrated classic!
Best Movie.
Masterpiece!
"I never saved anything for the swim back"
Hey buddy Please don't watch this Trailer. Go watch this Master piece.
Underrated gem and only becoming more relevant today.
Just saw this movie last night, great movie 👍🏾
very relevant today.
Way ahead of its time!
How did I miss this? Oh wait, I just graduated High School.
Never seen this I was 5 years old when it came out excited for the 4k release
this is a masterpiece
Watched this at the end of the year in AP Biology, it was a fascinating movie. I would highly recommend it.
This movie and its soundtrack were magnificent.

The trailer does this masterpiece no justice..
Greatest movie of all time... Sooo underrated... not even in criterion... a joke..

This was such a good movie. Can't believe i didn't see this movie back then. I think i do faintly remember seeing some of the ending parts in Cable TV. That was about it i didn't know what it was about.

Interesting and enlightening movie... it's coming!
Gattaca has always been one of my top 5. Well, I have two lists - roughly pre and post 2000.
Titanic, Matrix, Gladiator, Kill Bill(s), Gattaca
Chinatown, Once Upon A Time In America, White Heat, Psycho, Double Indemnity
One can understand the reason it was rated by NASA as the best science-fiction movie.
Wonderful!!! Loved.✌️
"Help me, Jesus!
I m trapped in hell world!!"
The comments assure me that this will be a good movie but, wow, this has to be the worst trailer I’ve ever seen
A... no. This is what a trailer SHOULD look like. Trailers used to be like that. Give you a limited information about the general plot and be diverse, not use 5 standard phrases like "get ready for", "this summer", etc. the same 5 sound effects, the same exact format, and basically give you the entire movie in 2 minutes, spoiling every part of it.
My favourite movie

This isn’t Predictive programming- it’s actually programming our collective consciousness to create these realities. We absolute what we watch, then process, programme and project. It’s all by design 🙏
