This movie is science fiction, but at the same time it has such a romantic and full of emotion atmosphere ... our first kiss was during the section. I would say the 7 greatest monumental sci fi movies of all time are (no particular order) :
      Blade Runner (1982)
      Contact (1997)
      Annihilation (2018)
      2001 Space Odyssey (1968)
      The Matrix (1999)
      Alien (1979)
An American Werewolf In London (1981)
      Star Wars (1977)
      Donnie Darko (2001)
They each are the most revered of the sub-genres of sci fi.... I was tempted to put 1982's The Thing in there but Alien is a much more famous movie of the sci fi alien horror genre, also the art design on Alien is just a notch above The Thing ...

I remember seeing it on a weekday evening when the ticket was cheaper. The trailer does a great service to the actual film. I was fortunate enough to do see it in a very good theater with amazing sound system. Two scenes that I will never forget because of the amazing sound quality was the sound of the signal (the whole place vibrated!) and the scene where Ellie is about to board the pod. Unique experience!

Carl Sagan, famous for the romance of science series 'Cosmos', wrote novel 'Contact'. While writing the novel, he asked theoretical astrophysicist Kip Thorne the question, ~ would be possible to build an interstellar transporter - Thorne went away and worked a 'solution' (details of which are in updated versions of the text 'Gravitation' by Misner, Thorne, and Wheeler). Later Thorne became scientific advisor to Christopher Nolan' for the movie 'Interstellar'. Later Thorne got the nobel prize in physics, a boost in general for the physics community specializing in the study of gravity. So many connections between these two movies, and funny enough Matthew McConaughey is a 'star' (no pun intended) in both. 'Contact' on the big screen was a great, thoughtful watch.

This is what Eastern Monks and Sages have been telling from ages that life is all about experience, you can't understand it unless you, yourself experience it. About the concept of the movie, the universe exists within you, not outside. It is not something you can touch or feel, it is something to experience.
But now you may ask, we can see, feel, and touch everything we do is physical. Yes, everything is physical because we are physical. But if we go a little deeper in it, then we will find, 'The basis of everything physical is experience". Now the question is where do you experience everything? Within yourself. Where do you see everything? Within yourself. It means, you see, feel, touch, everything which you call the universe, but where you experience it, "Within yourself". So, the last question would be, "Where is the universe? Within yourself. That's it.

I just go to see the trailer because in this Movie appears the big telescope of my island Puerto Rico and today its crash because of no maintenance and no federal funds for it. In 1997 was the biggest telescope in earth, so many memories of our childhood 😥

I never realized or noticed this before. The main character in this movie, has the same name as the euphemism in the next year's doomsday movie - Ellie. In Deep Impact, Ellie was actually E.L.E.
