Airport works. Also, I've used Evie chargers, which are everywhere, so when you choose them, they get plotted in the Google maps, providing you're already using gm to get somewhere. It asks you if you'd like to add a stop, once you've selected Evei charging station in their app.
If you know which chargers to stop at then yes it’s easy just to add stops along the way

This method also works with sideloaded ABRP. I don't have the premium subscription and it still works with the live data. You can also have multiple apps (such as CarScanner) connected to the OBD2 port dongle at the same time - all provide live data. I like this as the screen controls are always visible and you can quickly jump between the different apps.

Hey Tom, I have been using ABRP for a year now it’s accuracy is very very good, the more you use it the better it gets, its always with in 1-2 % margin of error, its live data is handy I monitor my battery temps with it, it gives me the ability to choose battery preconditioning or not, overall well worth it if you road trip a-lot.
Nice! Can you precondition the battery with ABRP? Which car are you driving?
@@LudicrousFeed I use it in my Genesis GV60, ABRP live data is so useful, if the battery is cold I use the car navigation to navigate to the charger, it will precondition the battery if the battery temperature is under 26deg, the only caveat to that is I only do that if its a 350KLW charger I can navigate to, most chargers are 50 to 150KLW so battery temp is not as critical with with the lower rated DC chargers it’s usually a flat charging curve in my car in any case, nonetheless I wouldn’t know this without ABRP telemetry.
Ah yes of course in the E-GMP cars, battery preconditioning can be manually activated 🏆

Great setup and good to know about the switch where you can turn off the OBD dongle, here's hoping future dongles they think about security far more than what they do now. I had no idea there was such poor security on these dongles.
There are other dongles with better security but not sure how compatible they are with ABRP

Another way to do it if ppl don't want to mess with the obd2 port (me for example, I use the obd port to provide power to Dashcam... so it's always plugged in), you could get a live data app like tronity to connect with ABRP. This will give you option to do planning using actual historical data when you are not in the car as well.

And how does Tronity gets life data from the car? Via an OBD dongle and your phone 😂

Pleasure. Reasonably good value if you travel long distance often. If you don’t want to pay for ABRP subscription, you can always just mount your phone
I use Teslamate which tells me everything about the car using the streaming data. From there i have an ABRP script that syncs to ABRP so i have live data. No cost. Just a raspberry pi
Useful trick for Tesla x ABRP planning
If you want to see the available chargers along your route the native app will show you. Just press on the bowser icon on the right side of the map. You can then select a charger and it will add it to your trip. It's still not useful as Tesla because it doesn't calculate your SOC or recommend stops, but it's not too bad. It will also show the availability and cost of most non Tesla chargers.
Yes noted there’s the native app which will show you chargers but you still have to manually plot it of course whereas ABRP makes it easy giving your options en route to your destination!
Love ABRP especially when linked with live data. Used it a lot in pre-Tesla days. Couldn’t justify the subscription when it works on the phone, which can be in a holder in eyesight.

No doubt there is better software integration for the Tesla ecosystem
This is what I don’t get about byd . Aiming to beat Tesla but we have to do all these workarounds for what should be a standard built in feature.
To be fair, Tesla currently doesn’t use non-Supercharger third-party DC chargers to plan routes in its in-car nav
Just to add, both Audi(Etron planner), Porsche electric routing and Merc (Electric Intelligence routing) would do it like tesla as well. I think the main difference is that it will precondition the car compare to the obd2 method.

Hi Tom, how would you use ABRP on a Tesla (Model Y) or do you even need to?
Probably not needed if you’re happy to exclusively use Tesla Superchargers on the native Tesla nav app
I note Tesla is in the midst of upgrading a bunch of chargers to V4 so BYD should pull their finger out and get their cars working with V3 up. Not being able to use the Tesla chargers is a pain. And AFAIK there is no way to only rule out V3 and V4 superchargers in the ABRP app. You have to know which sites are incompatible and rule them out one by one or rule out the whole Tesla network.
We will soon have an update with pre-March 2024 BYD Seal builds and V3/4 compatibility so stay tuned …
@@LudicrousFeed Yes, I saw your story from late May. Hope they address Atto 3's as well. I'm hesitating on taking mine to Melbourne in about 10 days as the Yass SC are being updated on June 10 and 11. Otherwise I'll just take the Model 3. Still deciding. Save an hour in the Tesla.

You won’t need another app for the OBD2. You’ll need to pair it within the ABRP app but that’s quite straight forward
Don't think you can sideload apps anymore. Need firmware downgrade.
It would be integrated into Android Auto or CarPlay I think - like Spotify, Waze, Google maps etc.

Its not difficult to downgrade, put in place the required "switches" then upgrade, which allows this. You do need to be able to follow instructions to the letter mind you, and be into the detail of capitalisation of files etc. *****Completely understand that it is not for everyone*****
A much better solution would be for BYD to make WAZE/GMAPS/ABRP available in their store.
I believe much of Teslas early success was the integrated route planning charging software and charger network, not necessarily the cars. They developed an EV market with textbook change management. Made it VERY simple for new EV owners.
Or better still, companies like BYD, could just licence ABRP and develop CANBUS integration, then their users (particularly first time EV drivers) would be in a far better place than they are now. This would be a trivial exercise on BYDs part, with massive benefits to their customers.
