The "core value of this app" has gone from a "price checking app" that was designed for collectors to value their retro collection to a "quick flick" app designed for collectors to sell you their collection for you to make a profit - good job Caleb!
You do realize his entire channel is dedicated to his business in which he.....likes to make money, right? lol. Unless I misread this comment, but it sounds like its seething with sarcasm.
I told a friend this on 12/31 (his first video was on 1/5). Looks like I was right. “I bet the app focuses on replacing his buy list so he can just have people go on his app and see prices and send to him and get paid.” Hi Rare
LISTEN to the people that are criticizing you. The thought of paying to be apart of a buy list is unheard of. Even if you offset it with credits. It’s your job as a business owner to shoulder the burden of “keeping out the riff raff”. NOT YOUR PARTNERS!!! Instead of paying $140k on a website you could have hired someone for multiple years and their job would be to filter out applicants for the buy list.
This app was never going to be a price checking app...The entire app should've just been Quick Flips. You should've left the collecting portion out of it as other apps already do that and do it very well. I mean i think everyone knows here that you want to get games by basically doing nothing is what was most important to you .... Kind of like Goodwill.
If the main feature of the app is the quick flips section, I really don’t see why this needs to be a mobile app. Couldn’t a simple website have sufficed?
Nah it sounds like he got it, just shifted focus towards having people just send him more inventory instead of primarily be for resellers to use for their own profit making.
Don't understand why people still sell to Phoenix when he's still obviously managing to get a further profit from the sale. Why don't people just skip the middleman and sell to Amanon for a higher price like he does?
He doesn’t teach people how to climb the resell ladder anymore (local, eBay, Amazon, Amazon renewed). Now he teaches people how easy it is to sell to him, cause it’s EASY
Starting to sell on Amazon is awful. Getting ungated is a huge hassle having to get from a distributor to even TRY and be allowed to sell them. Not at all easy or free like eBay
Ungated is a long hard process. He does pay solid prices on the buy list compared to other buyers. Quick flip for you with fast cash. Thats why I use it. Still don’t think the app is a good idea.
I casually watched a few of your vids after watching your vid on PokeNE, and although I enjoyed your content, it was wanting to learn from your app development and seeing your thruth along the way that got my sub!
Caleb only needs 0.01% of the people that watch his vids to sent stuff into subscribe to his app and maybe him to make money. Its like the televangelists of the new age.
I'm glad to hear it's working out. In hindsight, there really should be only one thought that goes through your head... why didn't I START by talking with my biggest customers and asking what they wanted and what they needed. The fact that you still don't know whether your customers will like it or not indicates you did it backwards. Focus on them and give them what they need and THEN go from there and work on logos and icons and themes and everything else. Ask them how much they'd pay for it. Ask them what would make their lives easier. Your philosophy was more of someone who was starting a brand new business and that's just silly when you have an established one.
I've been saying this since video one but I'll continue to: this app was and still is a money pit. The fact youve spent $140k to build an app that is basically just offering access to your buy list is madness. You could have created a system to make accessing your buy list easier using just simple web tools, even building a basic website would have been easy enough and would cost you a fraction of the price. This app was a ridiculous pointless investment seemingly made with zero consideration as you've made clear through these videos.
I love this Development cycle you had. Please keep more in the future. I personally hate (for me) having to do "pre-work" and planning out everything and trying to get an idea of what you want before you ask but you made logical decisions and explained everything. Great job!
dont stop what your doing! this has been great to follow along with and we appreciate your contributions to the gaming world! all the hanks can get outtttta hurrr.
Best of luck with the app. It is definitely a hard part of trying to figure out B2C or B2B businesses and even more so when the vision of the app was to target both B2B and B2C folks. I agree the hard part is not knowing what the app is/isn't until you work on it / through it for a while. Great job doing this, and have a great 2024!
I don’t know if it’s something you’ve thought about or if it’s possible (if you own the technology side of the app), but maybe consider finding ’partners’ outside of the USA that you could license the application technology to. I’m sure there are other budding Phoenix Resales in U.K., Australia, etc that would gladly pay a fee to be able to use the technology in territories where they wouldn’t be in direct competition with you. Just a thought.
To be completely honest, I stumbled upon this channel on the first video about the App and have been hooked on following the progress, even though it was very questionable why you were posting months old videos so late and spaced out, but I enjoyed them. It has definitely been a roller coaster. I'd say that it's not every day you get to follow the development of an app like this and specially about something so niche, yet part of what you love so much. As a Project Manager for an aerospace company, I understand fully how it feels to go through the process of working with developers and customers, everyone will have an opinion no matter how perfect the app is, just follow your gut and trust the process, once the beta is out, with actual use of the app, everything will fall into place. Keep it up bud.
I’m gonna be the one to say it. I’m gonna join so I can see the prices for flip, but not enough volume to do the quick flip for your inventory. Is this going to be a good investment for those resellers like me? Or just for your inventory?
Just downloaded the app! Gonna do the paid $25 tier and list a bunch of games to sell to you. I was looking at your prices you offer and they are very good in my opinion. I’ll give it a shot with a few games to see how it goes.

The amount of people that don't understand how this would be valuable to bigger resellers (or decide to be snarky and "funny" about it) is staggering. Are y'all really this dense?
Bigger resellers sell the games on Amazon or Ebay themselves. He wasted 140k on an app that that a couple of dozen people will use and doesn't even have to be used cause the free buy list is still available.

I got to this series late and were able to watch them all back to back not wanting to just skip to the end. seeing the process from the beginning to where it is now has been truly enlightening. you've shown the bright and fun stuff, the concepts, the building, the dark stuff, the troubles, the costs... a lot of people have been complaining about the app content but I thought it was truly profound content and wanna thank you for sharing. really thought it was an amazing look into it all.
Screw the haters. Good on you for taking this huge risk on something you believe in. I feel like itll be super nice having the price checking for collectors like me. and with how successful your buy list has already been, i think itll succeed. Best of luck
Sorry if my comments negatively affected your mental health. The internet is always going to give their honest opinion no matter what you do. Find a way to be mentally tough, whatever it takes for you. Thats my advice
the people that are complaining about you charging for the app are more than welcome to go and spend 100k+ of their own money to build an app and then let everyone use it for free
Why would I do that when I can just use the 3 options he's compiling data for, which are all free? There's even a free/cheap alternative that has all 3 data points and even a collection feature as well, been out for a few years now Don't get me wrong, there's no shot he was ever gonna lose money on this as long as the upkeep is low. The only issues I've had is that the claim he makes for the purpose of this app is a farce, and the price he set up originally was laughable. I am glad he has decreased it down to 25/month, it's still pretty high but I think it's at the level where if I was using it to make a few hundred dollars of side money, I don't mind taking a $25 cut out. For real, $50 a month is insane, even amazon FBA is only 40/month and that's literally THE platform where you sell on, why would I pay more for this scanning app than the actual platform I am gonna sell on?
This app was never about price checking… 😂😂
Well we knew that he alwalys say its about money u knew he was gonna work money in there regardless

Sorry if my comments negatively affected your mental health. The internet is always going to give their honest opinion no matter what you do. Find a way to be mentally tough, whatever it takes for you. Thats my advice
500 users is enough and when they keep using the app for years it will earn 150k every year. And 500 users is really doable.
Gonna flop so hard 😂
Tbh I didn’t wanna say it but I’m thinking it too, but I wish him good luck 😊
the people that are complaining about you charging for the app are more than welcome to go and spend 100k+ of their own money to build an app and then let everyone use it for free
We would never do such an inept thing. I rather save 140k
Why would I do that when I can just use the 3 options he's compiling data for, which are all free? There's even a free/cheap alternative that has all 3 data points and even a collection feature as well, been out for a few years now
Don't get me wrong, there's no shot he was ever gonna lose money on this as long as the upkeep is low.
