Obligatory rules clarification:
When cavalry are knocked prone, you put the dismount within the footprint of the base. You only put it in base contact when you dismount voluntarily.
Also you can’t voluntarily put your own models in harms way from the splash damage of a good siege weapon.

Maybe not competetive mind set but the lists were pretty competetive. Far Harad + Harad is very strong. Actually the trebuchet is played a lot in germany and just won a tournament. A siege engine to create space for the cavalry to charge into is a clever tactic

The trebuchet should do more for a direct hit. Like D3 wounds or something
To be fair it does auto kill that model if it wounds them.
