    Looks like a great idea, except for the galvanized pail. Galvanized when heated releases zinc gas, which is very toxic

      I have a 304SS Pail coming. I didn’t realize that when I got it, however galvanized metal need to get to a certain temperature and when it has a yellow smoke is when it’s toxic this never got to either one. Thanks for watching and the support

    If that's a galvanized bucket make sure you do a couple of dry burns before you throw any meat in there. Galvanized steel is extremely toxic. Be safe, awesome hack👍

    You might want to check out that galvanized metal put off zinc toxic fumes when heated. Check out stainless steel buckets from a dairy farm supply store.

    Dude I love your videos, and this seems like a good idea but..... It looks like you are using a galvanized bucket and I just Googled "Is galvanized steel toxic when heated?"
    this is what it said;
    Zinc fumes are set free when galvanized steel is heated. These fumes are very toxic to breathe. ... There are no USDA certified-safe galvanized metal cooking surfaces or containers. Galvanized fumes are released when the galvanized metal reaches a certain temperature.
    So FYI for what it's worth you might be poisoning your family and guests, you might want to find another bucket or container to use

  • @handcannon1388
    @handcannon1388 Před 3 lety +1

    If this seems to work (I'm only a few minutes in), you could expand on the idea by using a longer; smaller-diameter pipe with an end-cap. That way' you could run it all the way to the lid if you wanted, getting the longest burn-time possible; with maximum room inside the drum.

    MC have you thought what happens when all the charcoal ash drops out of the non safe galvanized bucket and fill and clog the air way and grease trap on the very bottom in the middle of your smoke? I'd suggest using the ash catch pan that comes with it and get a SS bucket from Amazon or a cheap SS cooking pot from Wal-Mart. Drill your holes and smoke away.

    • @meatcranium4280

      This is a work in progress. Them coals last 8+ hours yesterday. I may need to just drop that drain cup every 1 or so to prevent clogging. I’ll think of something by next week. I have a 304 SS BUCKET ordered and I will be Utalizing it next week. Thanks for the support and watching brother.

      I have ordered a 304 SS one. I didn’t realize it was galvanized metal, however to be toxic it needs to be a certain temp and the smoke will be a yellowish color, I didn’t achieve either one of those. Thanks for the concern. I will be doing this again with SS.

      I thought of that, however they are made of aluminum and that isn’t good to use. The bucket I used maybe made of galvanized metal and that’s not good either. I ordered a 304 SS BUCKET and I will be utalizing it next week. Thanks for the support and watching.

    If they made a taller lid or a ring to slip on then the hood we would have more depth amd not having to cut ribs down or brisket so it fits better .

    Made a similar bucket for my uds a few yrs ago. Ya may think about adding a rack or expanded metal about 3-4 inches up from the bottom for ash to fall. And quite a few comments on the galvanized bucket being not good.
