- Thomas Nast was a political cartoonist who shaped American culture in myriad ways. He gave us our modern depiction of Santa Claus, and popularized the use of the Donkey and Elephant as symbols of our political parties.

This was back in a time when a single immigrant German cartoonist could be a worthy adversary in the battle against corrupt government. None of us will ever have the capacity, the motivation or the ignorance of these days - days of my great grandparents when people rarely had intellect, replacing it instead with an unquenchable thirst for life. A thing we can't feel the way they did.
