    Makes a whole lot of sense to me, I’m a lifelong Mercer county resident, and I’ve had a hard time really using identifying with Monmouth county and other central Jersey areas since I never really go around there much. The capital region makes a whole lot more sense in terms of where I’d identify with, especially with the addition of Lambertville in the capitol region.

    As a 57Year South Jersey Resident, and Real Estate agent… I would change it to anything north of Burlington county would be North Jersey.. even the way we conduct a real estate transaction is like a different state. So with that said, scrap the Central Jersey moniker, and make 2 separate states.

    • @MrNewJersey
      @MrNewJersey Před měsícem

      Here are a few: - each side roots for different sports teams - the two sides are in different media markets; growing up in South Jersey, I saw a lot more Philly sports, news, and cultural events on TV than NY ones - the dialects differ on a number of words (for instance, lots of people say “hoagies” in the Philly area, but “subs” and “heroes” in the NY area) - Philly and its suburbs are more reliant on cars than NY and its suburbs, which have more public transportation options - the New York area has more Dutch influence from when the Netherlands colonized it, which often shows up in town and street names. the Philly area has more Swedish influence - the Quaker faith has a larger presence in the Philly area

    Quakers, being the majority of the population in Philly and Burlington area, were the greatest number of slave owners. The Quaker opposition to slavery only formalized in the middle of the 18th century. Until then, they had little problem with owning slaves; William Penn had several at Pennsbury Manor; my ancestor Elizabeth had 6 in Burlington city in 1700. Her husband William, incidentally both prominent Quakers, sold 154 slaves in Philly at the end of 1684.

    US "Colonies" do not pay Federal Income taxes. They also can vote to leave, stay as they are or become states. Except DC, they are the only ones really getting screwed. The others vote to stay as they are, except Puerto Rico who now supports state hood. Northern Mariana Islands were a Japanese colony that later voted to become a US "colony" 3 of the others voted to become nations in a Compact of Free Association with the US and one Palua completely independent. Oddly enough in places like American Samoa and Guam you find the some of most Patriotic Americans around.

    This bill is doomed to fail. With Republicans in control of the majority of the House of Representatives, this bill will most likely die in committee. I'm Puerto Rican, and this bill is definitely being pushed by the corrupt Pro-statehood party PNP, is you see the press conference they had with this bill, they are all talking about statehood exclusively. They don't want statehood because they want "Equality", "Civil Rights", or "Representation", the leadership of PNP just wants it because they want more federal funds to steal and the average statehood voter just wants it because they believe its some magic wand that will fix all the islands problems. But it's near to impossible to happen, there's way to many obstacles blocking statehood from happening. Plus on the island support for Independence is rising because of all the corruption being exposed in the pro statehood movement and neglect by the US government, it's even becoming mainstream in the news and pop culture with even Puerto Rican celebrities calling for Puerto Rico independence. All in all this bill is a joke, it won't pass, congress doesn't care about Puerto Ricos status issue. I bet that even if it does pass committee, they will vote on it in the end of this congressional session so they can just look like they care but really they wait to the end so that the bill can just expire.

    I'm Puerto Rican. Statehood is never going to happen and it never should. We do not want statehood, those referendums that say we do are total BS, they are only setup by the corrupt pro-statehood party PNP as a political ploy just to bring people out to vote for their candidates in the gubernatorial elections and they always have low turnout. Independence support has been small but it has been growing in the past couple of years because of all the corruption in the statehood movement and neglect by the US government. And most Puerto Ricans do not want statehood, if you do the math with the referendum results and turnout its like 30% that want statehood, from what I've seen wants to stay the same, but also some say they want independence but still vote for the commonwealth or statehood statuses because they are pessimistic about being an independent country. All those politicians in DC calling for Puerto Rico statehood are just virtue signaling because they are conflating us with DC statehood and making it look like Puerto Rico statehood is all about civil rights and equality, when the movement on the island is really corrupt and its the annexation of our homeland. Puerto Rico is a Latin American island nation with its own history, culture, and Spanish is the dominant language. There's no way congress is going to really make our island a state, there is way to many obstacles blocking it from happening that its near to impossible to happen. It would be detrimental to both the US and Puerto Rico financially, politically, and culturally.
