One of the lesser-known characters in early New York history! I consider Thomas Nast not only to be a political comic-strip artist that's almost unheard of...but,as a cartoonist/writer myself...I consider him to be an inspiration! He is definitely worth knowing about!
So nice to be called an ignorant fool by a total stranger who likes to enlighten people with his fists instead of his wits. Nast is considered by many as the father of political editorial caricature, and I was simply voicing my desire that other artists like myself be aware of his accomplishments in that arena. If he was a racist as you say, I'd genuinely love to see info that supports that, so that I can add to my base of knowledge. To be ignorant means you just don't know something, anyone ca
Thus vid should be "required learning" for all caricature artists. It's important to know your history and roots, so you don't stray.caricature is more than simple baboonery and juvenile mockery as some think.
@MrCarnage927 I'm pretty sure no one names their child that. It was a nickname suggesting that he was "slippery" as in shady or not to be trusted. His name was Richard but his nickname was "Slippery Dick."
This dispicable imitation of a human being was a bigot of the worst sort. I only wish I could travel back in time to personally teach him a hard lesson to head off all the racial and sectarian hate damage he did to the Catholic, Irish and Italian communities during the height of his brutally bigoted, racist caricaturing dynasty. Better his legacy be exposed truthfully or at the very least eradicated than honored like this woefully misleading youtube profile!

Wow. Informative video. Makes me proud to be both a caricature and editorial artist for THE WAVE newspaper in NYC. Far Rocaway.
Thanks for this video. I'm doing a research paper on political cartoons and had no idea where to begin. Very informative
