- At SHOT Show this year, Holosun announced a bunch of cool new optics but I’m most excited for the SCS Carry. So if the EPS Carry already has a K series footprint and is an enclosed optic, meaning that there is a hood and second pane of glass enclosing the emitter, then why does the SCS Carry exist? Is it an upgrade from the EPS Carry? We’ve been asked these questions by many people already, and we’ll cover when someone might want the EPS Carry over the SCS Carry and vice versa.

Eps carry all day. I sent my scs back as it stopped working. Got my replacement with no issues. My problem is the blooming is bad on this dot and i don't care for the auto brightest. EPS Carry is pretty much flawless. Have them on 3 pistols now
Is the scs closed or open emitter?
@@newtestamentchristian6932 SCS 320 and SCS Carry are enclosed. SCS PDP, MP2, MOS, and VP9 are all open.
The auto brightness and default brightness settings are a dealbreaker for me…. I own a scs mos, people with astigmatism will not be able to mitigate the starbursting effect for that reason.
For example the brightness default is like a 7 then a 5, that’s it, what if you need a 4, 3, or 2?
To its credit the auto adjusting feature works well and is pretty seamless. But if you have age related macular degeneration and astigmatism? You may have starbursting that you can not mitigate.
Plus mos also only comes in green, l think red would be better.
Sent my SCS HK back also , way too much blooming at night . unable to take a safe shot unless I had an incredibly bright light source . Too bad though, it fit perfect with no plate and standard sights. The light auto sensor is incredibly fast , one of the best. I ended up with the standard EPS but put it on A different gun.
@@johnbudzinski3550 I agree, l would just turn the optic off. It works okay in certain settings and the blooming is tolerable, but it seems like that has to occur in natural light behind me.
But if the blooming is too bad l just turn it off. Just use the stock sights.
An expensive mistake, for me
Love my SCS 320, even with a slight astigmatism it’s fantastic. After a small issue with the screws it’s now a permanent fixture on my 320. I cannot wait until the SCS Carry drops, going right on my 365.
Love my ESP-Carry, I like the more options it offers. Has worked very well for me. Thanks for the additional information.
I've had my EPS and EPS Carry since October 2022. Both great sights.
EPS Carry for me as well. I like the shake awake function and more brightness control.
Awesome information. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for this thorough comparison.
Great comparison video!
I recently ordered the SCS Carry. Haven't gotten it yet, but soon (sooner that I thought honestly). I have and EPS Carry in red MRS and while I like it, I looking forward to trying the green, as I have a HS510c-GR and it doesn't feel like it blooms as much as my red optics do. Time will tell. I also think the aesthetics of the SCS Carry are better than the EPS Carry. I have never been as big a fan of the 'blocky' design of the EPS Carry, and prefer the sweeping design of the 407k/507k, which the SCS Carry appears to mimic more.
I have MOS & 2.0 SCS optics. They're only available in green because it uses less power than red to make it visible in almost every situation.
I put my MOS & 2.0 SCS on the dash and ran service calls for a couple of weeks to charge them. They should be good for 2.5 years without exposure to sunlight again. That's exceptionally cool.
You're charging a capacitor, not an actual battery. Capacitors have dramatically longer life than rechargeable batteries
I have the SCS MOS on a Glock 45, very happy with it, I have the SCS 320 that I had on a Sig but now I have it on a Walther PDP F using a DPP plate that Walther will send you for free.
@MrPerry61 what kind of screws did you use with the DPP PDP plate??
Would love to see a SCS320 vs 509 vs EPS.
Which enclosed full size optic is best?
Nice review. I am on a market of buying a red sight and debating which one should I get? EPS CARRY or SCS CARRY?
I love the EPS Carry on my 43x. But I would love an SCS specific to the Glock MOS slimline even more.
The same 43x adapter plate used for the EPS Carry should work for the SCS Carry. We'll likely be testing out that combo on the channel!
Same here. The thing I like best about the SCS on the full sized Glocks is no plate. This is a bummer for my G43x.
So, I just want to make sure I understood correct because there’s not a lot of reviews out on this yet. Can you set your own personal brightness, setting preference and it stay that way indefinitely versus when they first came out they were auto brightness all the time? I predominantly use mine at night time so I don’t need a super bright reticle. I usually run mine on six or seven with my EPS. I know you mentioned tapping it to get it to go brighter for 30 minutes, but what I’m saying is can I put it on level six for example and it stay that way forever or will it automatically adjust to the light going through the lens? I appreciate your review and any information you can shed on this.
The SCS is auto brightness only, you are not able to set it at a brightness level like the EPS Carry can
Will this fit the FN 509cc edge?
great video! i think the dimensions are pretty close between the two, but is there any difference with deck height (thinking for co-witness)?
I believe it’s the same
no battery tray screw to loosen and fall out after 1500rds. will probably pickup two or three SCS-Carrys.
let's hope there aren't any teething issues with these, like there were with the EPS-CARRY and SCS MOS.
Cool options! But the price though! 🤯
Yea the quality enclosed emitters are pricey for sure.
I have the SCS320 and the only thing I hate about it is that 2moa green reticle. Green is a fad that needs to go away IMO, same with the ever shrinking reticles. If its a carry piece it should be 6 MOA, we need quick aquistiion and clarity, not a starbursting tiny dot :( I'm not a holosun hater, I have a bunch, but 2moa dots starburst very quickly with just a little brightness.
I have the 407k on my daily carry for that reason. I get it though, some people like 2 moa better, so at least there’s options to pick for personal preference
@@freedomgorilla1 100% with you, I also rock a 407k on my daily! The SCS 320 is on my P229 that still gets carried but not daily.
I heard that the SCS carry has ambient sensors in the front (so it adjust the auto-brightness based on light conditions down range and not where you are) just like the RMR HD. Is that true?
That would make it great for home defense in those situations where you are in a bright place while the target is in the dark or vice-versa.
Yea it’s absolutely true
@@freedomgorilla1 that’s very good news. I’ve been holding out for using a red dot on my carry gun for a while but this might change my mind.
I was always worried about lint getting inside the emitter and while the enclosed models fixed that, I kept seeing reports of them fogging. I hope the manufacturers fixed those issues.
@@freedomgorilla1 BTW, I’m reading one of your articles about compact optics footprints and I have to say it’s the best I’ve read on the topic so far.
Thanks for putting in the effort into these articles, many consumers like myself really like to dive in into the specific details before making a purchase.
I live in a VERY remote place and I don’t have easy acesses to a gunsmith / workshop that can mill my slide or make a custom adapter plate, so I have to be very deliberate of which optics and mounts I’m buying.
Just got a shadow 2 compact optic ready. No preference on color. What would you recommend Sir?
Shadow 2 is limited because of their plates. So i would say something with an rmr foorprint like then 507c or 508t
i'm wondering why the SCS MP2 for M&P 2.0's is open emitter vs the other SCS models.
All SCS models are open emitters except for the Scs 320 and the scs carry
What is a "buhon?"
Hi, is the little dovetail notch on the rear a valid replacement for a rear sight in case optic fails?
It depends. You would have to shoot it and see where it hits.
Did they say when it will be released? I know Q2 but , March or June?
They’ve only said Q2, so no definitive answer. We’ll keep everyone posted once we know
On the scs carry with only one button, how do you sdjudst to align the sight (up ,down, left, right)????
It has the windage and elevation adjustments on the top and rear
So with the SCS just keep it on ? I just got one yesterday for my G45 but waiting for the Battlewerx screws to come in.
Yup just leave it on 24/7, it’ll charge faster than it uses power. Just make sure it gets a good charge at least once a year
@@freedomgorilla1 - Thank you man ! I’ll go ahead subscribe to your channel I like what you put and your very helpful. Thanks again 👍🏻
Not a fan of the green reticles. All my dots are red, including on my rifles. I prefer to keep it that way.
My biggest concern about the SCS Carry is what is the lifespan of the battery supposed to last on it. I consider everything else that has a battery needs to be replaced eventually. Does Holosun have a lifetime warranty on the batteries with the SCS Carry?
The warranty date as of Jan 1, 2022, 10 years from date of manufacture, since the battery isn't serviceable this would be the warranty. Maybe the lawyers haven't had the chance to address or interpret this yet.
@@morenothing4u thanks for the information.
@MoeMoe-do1fd I'm not a big fan non user friendly replacable batteries. Was willing to gamble on the SCS 320. If Holosun won't make it right, Brownells will.
What guns can it direct mount to? Anybody know? I don't like using plates..
Any thing with a K series foorprint. Our website explains all guns in the description that it fits
What is the difference between from scs 320 vs scs carry besides that 320 is green dot and carry has red? Thank you
All SCS models are green dots only, although the EPS Carry has a red dot. The SCS 320 is made to fit the p320 or any slide with a DPP footprint, whereas the SCS Carry fits any slide with a K series footprint (modified RMSc footprint)
@@freedomgorilla1 thank you for your response. I was thinking it had different features when I saw the different button on the SCS carry I plan on putting my SES 20 on Springfield Echelon
Did you say they come with adapter plates? Because I ordered a scs carry from your app and it did not come with a plate!
Yes they do. A thin one. Please contact or support on our website and we will get you taken care of. It could be possible the factory forgot to add it
@@freedomgorilla1 thank you I will contact them today 5/09/2024.
Switched my EDC (G23) to SCS and 💯 for it now. Wish there was an SCS 365/k version (open emitter). Just so low profile, love it for carry.
One correction: the solar failsafe doesn't work on the EPS Carry MRS if a battery isnt installed. It only works if your battery dies and is still installed. It's a gimmick regardless. Just replace your batteries on a regular interval.
You’re correct however i disagree that it’s a gimmick. It needs the battery to complete the circuit. So when the battery dies it still will function like it says.
I have an astigmatism, what would be more beneficial for me? EPS carry or SCS carry?
What should really make the difference is the color itself. Red tends to flare more if you have an astigmatism. I run several different optics on my guns, but the color green is constantly better on my eyes than the red, as I also have an astigmatism.
I have the SCS in green, I want to try out the EPS. But regardless which optic you run, green is 110 times better on your eyes.
@@kalebhahn5947that's what I was thinking but since I do not have any dot I don't have any experience to compare them to
Green color and the one with the most brightness settings. Everyone's astigmatism is different.
When will these be available
No ETA just yet, once Holosun announces it we'll be posting about it. Last year it seemed like the new SCS models came out in Q2/Q3 though, so maybe something similar will happen.
What is the release date of the SCS carry?
No official ETA, last years new SCS optics were in Q2/Q3 so probably the same with this I’d imagine
I absolutely love your videos, but you never have the best price!
Everything is at the MAP pricing, if someone has a better price hit us up and we’ll price match! Thanks for watching! 🇺🇸🦍
I like the EPS over the SCS. If the battery dies in the EPS, the optic can still operate with the solar panel. Which buys you time until you change the battery. The SCS can't do that, if the battery dies or malfunctions you have to send it in to get fixed, because it's a internal battery.
Also if the solor panel gets damaged or stops working, then the optic is done.
Good points. Something to think about tho is that most ppl judge the Scs carry has having some irreversible electronic failure risk. IMO any of the optics do. How common is it for the electronics to fail. There’s a lot of “anxiety”
Thst comes with the Scs tech. I think over time it will become
The standard.
So the EPS uses a 1682 battery. Does the scs have a replacement battery ?
No it doesn’t. Internally rechargeable. Non removable
Question is, did Holosun fix the moisture issues with their enclosed red dots.
We haven’t heard of that issue and have sold many enclosed emitters. I’m sure any problem you ever experience they will warranty it with their limited lifetime warranty
All enclosed emitter optics are nitrogen purged according to holosun.
@10fantic check out Barrel & Hachet's enclosed red dots review.
Can this fit on my sig 365x without an optic plate so I can co witness with my stock sights ????
Yes it will fit. As far as cowitness it may block your irons
It doesn’t block the irons, without a plate, direct mount to 365, the irons are just usable.
Trying to measure it, the top of the rear to top of front is about 1/32” or 0.8mm over the edge of the sight glass.
So, do you need a plate to mount on a 43x?
Technically no bc the included plate will work, but if you wanted a more tailored plate we recommend getting a dedicated g43x eps plate. Also if you use the included plate you will need shorter screws. We have all of this stuff if you ever need it
Will it fit on the S&W shield plus 9mm with the adaptor plate that come with scs ?
Yes
@@freedomgorilla1 thank you for the reply ! A guy on CZcams did a review and has the shield plus had issues shooting high at 15 yards with the adapter plate and he ran out of up/down adjustment . so he had his milled, so he can get a direct fit. Is this a common issue or it maybe be just an issue with his gun? I personally don’t want to get my slide milled . So I’m just asking in advance, to see if i should consider another red dot.
You shouldn’t have a problem at all with height over bore
If the battery dies in the SCS can it be replaced?????
Not that I know of
That's the reason i purchase one is for direct month on my Smith&Wesson plus a lifetime warranty.
Scs has a lower mount so it's easier to co witness. The scs doesn't require an adapter plate for a walther
The scs Carry and eps carry have the same deck height pretty much
I'll never get why a shake awake waits 5-10 minutes of no movement to turn off
I think you can adjust the time
Damn unfortunately Carry is misspelled in the thumbnail
Seems correct to us
SCS Carry has me VERY interested
The battery does have a lifespan of “10” years
I'll stick with the 508t.. its better and it's less expensive
I wish the SCS didn’t have the curved sides on the back. It looks better but to me, it completely defeats the purpose of having an enclosed optic. Can’t wipe snow or mud off the back with those curved sides. I have to have the ability to quickly wipe the backside clear of any obstruction
It’s sucks you have to cut on the SCS. That’s a no-go.
Wait back up and slow down so I can cut on my dot & use against You😂
No shake awake but the red dot is meant to be on 24/7. You put it on the reticle you want and never turn it off basically. It'll charge faster than you use it assuming you don't just leave it in a case with no light. Because I thought the same thing at first 😂
Not excited, Still no RMSc footprint.
An enclosed RMSc red dot would be awesome tbh
Holosun will never do an RMSc. They have said it over and over. It’s not viable to their manufacturing. Those rear lugs mess with their deck height.
Stay away from the SCS, the internal non replacable battery is not proven to last as long as the LED. It's going be an expensive paperweight. Battery is claimed to last 20k hours, thats 2.25 years. As the battery ages this number goes down. Holosun does say 10 year warranty on date of manufacture on the led, this should be the warranty since the battery isn't serviceable.
It has a 20k hour power reserve. It doesn’t only last 20k hours. It’s constantly recharging itself
In 2017 my dingaling made it into the Book of World Records but, the librarian got mad and made me take it out.
