Returning after a 12 week recovery from a broken jaw, Matt Sing scored three tries from three kicks, jumping higher and higher to catch the ball every try. This victory got the Cowboys into the 1st Semi Final where they beat the Brisbane Broncos for the first time ever. Just one win away from their first Grand Final, the Cowboys were beaten in a close and controversial finish to the Sydney Roosters. Bulldogs went on to beat Roosters in the 2004 NRL Grand Final.
2004 was the first time the Cowboys had made the NRL Finals.
