Locky won the golden boot as a fullback and as a 5/8th. I think people forget how great a fullback Locky was. I'd put him only behind Slater. Locky was so fast in those days and just glided across the ground. But he also had those ball skills that saw him evolve into the best 5/8th in the world too. Early on, with Locky, Hancock, Carne, Sailor and Renouf especially, Brisbane had speed to burn and with a pack over the years including the likes of Lazarus, Carroll, Ryan, Gee, Hohn, Cann, Campion, Webcke, Tallis they were not intimidated by anyone
I reckon if he stayed at fullback he would be remembered as better than Slater.
I always felt like Locky was one of the pioneers that helped evolve … the fullback position. The first fullback that had playmaking skills & that would be a true threat from the furthest position
As a Bulldogs supporter, its amazing to me that people ignore Jarryd Hayne.
Can you imagine that guy playing for Melbourne or Brisbane?
What would Lockyer have done playing as a one man band for Parramatta? Or Slater?
Inglis and Hayne are the best fullbacks I've seen.
Slater-Lockyer Garry Jack - Mullins all those guys are a level below those 2.
@@bornyesterday1895 i’m not a big fan of what if’s …. When it comes to sports history
This team was my first season watching footy knowingly.
Petro, Locky, Berrigan, carrol, Thorn, SAilor. The list goes on.
Bronx nation. ❤️👊🏽
Back when a three quarters of the qld team consisted of broncs players. Literally a team full of superstars. Won't happen again
@J G How’s the A league going?
I remember watching this in Auckland NZ with my late dad it was on normal tv Back then we use to tape the games with the old VCR tapes and tape over other movies.
Why was your dad late?
Haha yeah I remember watching it in Blenheim
@@justicedemocrat9357 meaning my dad who's passed on now.
@@Vendarize yeiyah up waikawa !!!
@@justicedemocrat9357 bruh💀 do you have a brain?
I remember watching this game with my Grandma and Grandad whos passed away now in 2016. My grandma still alive and well at 86 Years Old and both were broncos fans and i was 13 in 2000 and i remember well..
I was at the game they didn't show Luke Phillips the Easts fullback chop down Wendell Sailor one on one, great try saving tackle. The one thing I remember was how the Broncos defense was a solid wall and no matter where Fitler kicked it either Lotte Tequiri, Wendell Sailor or Darren Lockier were there to catch the ball on the full every time.
you forgot to mention Kevin waters or Bren Iken. :P
@@daveross1638 Iken left the field in the first half, and I was talking about the back 3 not every Broncos player for gods sake!
Love this game so much! One of the greatest Bronco teams. Champion team!
I put two bets on this match and won one. Tuquiri to score first. And Brisbane to win by 8. Won both. Had to get a bus into the city to make those bets. Those were the days.
What an inconvenience ! but at least you had a good win 😉 Ha!Ha!
Ho much money did you win?
Ldlagkdlgal
@@chevizak6945 about $200 (less the bus fare) from $20 😂
I was there , and as a Roosters fan , it was hard to take. But they were too good on the day, and that's history. Luke Phillips was amazing that day.
There was no stopping the Broncos that year. Powerful forwards, big wingers, and the genius of Lockyer. The Roosters played their Grand Final the week before fighting back to knock out Andrew Johns and the Knights but didn't have another performance like that in them to back up the following week, except for Luke Phillips who in my opinion was the best player on the field. The score could have been much worse if not for him.
I remember someone saying that if the Roosters won, Luke Phillips would have been man of the match. He had a blinder.
well said. game was closer than I remember
Powerful Forwards, Big Wingers and now the genius of Reynolds 😳 Bring on 2023
Ben Ikin gets knocked out cold with a late shoulder charge to the head, but comes back on to play?! What a legend
no sin bin!! now in 2023 that would be sent off and a couple of weeks ban.
Yeah.. but he was never the same player after this game.
That should be a send off in any era. Jumps, shoulder to the head after he's kicked the ball.
Back when Sydney Olympic stadium look so good with those grand stand standing opposite the goal post and track and field track was there. Sydney Olympic stadium looks shut now.
How’s the HIA protocol in 2000 - Ikin walks off like Steady Eddie and is straight back on 😬😂
🤣🤣 notice that too.
Those were the best times to watch NRL
Football was so much better to watch back then.
Yet you still turn on the tv to watch the footy now.
Yeah, but it's NOT 'football'!
Lol footy is so much better today
Luke Phillips saved at least 4 trys
I remember Webke playing with a broken arm in this game
What I remember about this GF was Brisbane's brutal defense and Luke Phillips saving a thousand tries.
Benny Ikins Torp kick was insane
The atmosphere was positive and optimistic the 2000 Olympics that year and everyone was living life no stress, no over priced housing or groceries or inflation. No social media or hysteria
Life was simple
Wow that hit on Ikin would have been a send off these days, then was just like just a penalty matey
back in the day when the footy jerseys had collars
I still have a 2002 Broncos jersey looks similar to this jersey minus Ergon energy still has a collar aswell
@@JKW4701 yeah, I have a 2001 with the collar, they're really nice. Back in the day when they felt expensive. Unfortunately the collar goes feral after a few trips to the wash LOL
Today's NRL jerseys are appalling
Bring back the collar
@@JKW4701 the 2001 jersey has the collar but from 2002 it's collar-less
Why Hegarty doesn’t dive in low for the try 3 minutes into the game, I’ll never know. Could’ve changed everything
Geez Luke Phillips kept the Roosters in it
What a game
I’m Broncos but huge respect to Luke Phillips… he was Roosters best on the day.
Remember this season starting and ending earlier in the year (the Grand Final was in late August) because of the Sydney Olympics.
Go Broncos
Yes you’re right and The Opening Ceremony of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games took place 19 Days later in the aftermath of the 2000 NRL Grand Final
The 2000 AFL Grand Final held 6 days after this & the last NRL granny of the 20th century.
Imagine getting hit by Thorne and Tallis 😮
Interesting to see how things would go in 2022
3:19 would have been a penalty to Roosters because he went more than horizontal
7:12 would have been either a send off of a sin bin for the roosters because of late + high contact to the kicker
All the forward passes would have been let go too though.
great memories thanx for the upload
They are the premiership team… Of the Next 1000 years.
You'd be jailed these days for that hit on Ben Ikin. And he came back on after that lol
Broncos were the Kings of the 90s.
Is that Billy Walters with Kevie lifting the trophy???
is this the best regular season team of all time? so many legends in one team. actually insane.
pretty much every Broncos team in the 90s
Raiders 94 side eats this team
The mighty Brisbane Broncos
Was Freddy hurt during the game or before?
Two years later, the Roosters won the premiership.
Yes absolutely Like you mentioned 2 years later after their Grand Final defeat to the Brisbane Broncos The Sydney Roosters went on to win the Premiership defeating The New Zealand Warriors 30-8
Back when all men
Bonetti should have been sent off for that tackle on Ikin
2008 NRL Grand Final Please
bulldogs VS panthers 2004 pf
Up the broncos
Ray Hadley is one of the goats
BUM SNIFFERS!
Like ya mum
@@dmillers87 Far cough! Truth HURTS hey?
.....And then they got turned over by a lesser superleague team from england in the WCC....😉
Hi
Ello
Haha and those days are gone....for Broncos, I mean!
Footy was better then. They have ruined the product now
I was at this game, and it was as boring as watching paint dry
but those plays from Lockyer and Ikin were good you can't even deny
one of the most boring grand finals of all time. along with 2017
Boring as final, still reckon if we didnt choke in the prelim against the roosters we would have done the broncs, anyway we won the year after🤣
