I always love a good gear video. I totally agree that a good PFD and paddle are very impactful upgrades a paddler can make.

Thank you, Eric!! Yes, I put those two upgrades off longer than I should have.

That was a good video on your gear you take with you Dan. One thing you forgot man! What about clothes & footwear man. I just joking man. But that is everything you need to be on the water though. I Tie everything down to my Kayak too even my flip-flops 🩴. I make a Tie rope for my flip flops 🩴 & for everyone in my family Including my lil brother Tim & his son Jimmy for there kayak too & boy let me tell you that they work so well cuz our flip flops 🩴are tie to the kayak & can't go anywhere & they are right there when we need them because all of us kayak barefooted 👣. You should make you a tie rope for your footwear when you kayak barefooted 👣 if you don't have one. This was a good video man. Thanks you for sharing this. I hope you have a good weekend buddy.

Thanks, Mack! I usually only take extra clothes on multi-day trips or sometimes cold weather trips. I will many times keep dry clothes and towels in my truck. Thanks for watching!

great vid Dan ! this type video helps all paddlers to think safety and "what if", because we all know things can happen in the water. i totally agree on the paddle, pfd, tethers as priority items. i carry a dry box and dry bag everytime i'm on the water.

Thanks, Brian! I appreciate it. I've had several requests for this, but not being an "expert" I was a little hesistant...lol. But I'm also looking for suggestions for what I night be missing! :-)

I’ve really been thinking about getting that paddle 🤔

I highly recommend it. It also comes in a variable-feather design if you like that, but prefer the straight blades.

Hi Dan, I feel the same way about shopping. I don't enjoy it at all, I don't insist on a brand, but I want a functional thing. I have a PFD and a blunt tip knife from the same company as you. The PFD won because of the pockets and I liked the knife. However, after a few weeks, my blades started to rust. David PT

Awesome! Yes, the pockets won me on the PFD. I showed the blunt tip knife, but I actually have the pointed tip. However, I've not used it yet. Thanks David and Happy Holidays!!

I am looking for a new paddle. How durable is your paddle? I travel more creeks than rivers, so I beat the crap out of my.

I think this one is very durable. I've done lots of smaller, shallow rivers that are closer to creeks than actual rivers. Lots of rocks, logs and gravel riverbeds. I've used this paddle on a 5 and 3 day canoe/camping trips with a 16ft canoe loaded with gear and my not-so-skinny self...lol. It's done really well!!
