Using VSDC Video Editor. How to make smooth cuts, splits, and fades

  • I had a subscriber ask me for help regarding how to make smooth cuts, so I made this video as a response to hopefully help out anyone who's having an issue with getting smooth cuts, splits, fades and transitions.
    Most times it's just that the split video is separated by a frame which will show up as a black screen for a split second. The trick is to very slightly overlap the two video sections so they blend after you've done your splitting, cutting etc.

    Hello there. I download VSDC 2 week ago so i'm very new to the video editing scene. I've been using your videos to learn how to edit and so far so good. However. I'm currently working on my second project and appear to be having an issue with the video running smoothly over the cuts into the other clip. The clips appear to be butted up with no gaps. however. when i play the scenes to see how they look it has a glitch, freezes for a fractions of a second (you can hear the sound still carrying on), then jumps to catch up with the sound. This happens very quickly like little hiccups at every scene change. There's no fading added just a standard clip to clip. It looked like you had the same thing when you split the last clip on this video. Would you be able to advise on what I can do to fix this? Also I've noticed that there's a little red tag at the start and end of every clip I've cut and split. Could this be the issue. Many thanks. Aron P.S. sorry for the long read. lol

      I would export it then watch it to see if it's good. Make sure you save the project though so you have the original work before the export.

      @@KobieMC Yeah i exported it and its glitchy at all the cuts and splits. Its not glitchy where i've cut the end of clip 1 and just butted clip 2 to the end with no cut or split to the start of clip 2. Its like it doesn't like cut to cut clips. i think i have thee same problem as the others in the comments below. Is there another step that you could maybe recommend?

      Aron Savoury Hi, if you are just doing a preview, it will sort of have some “glitches”. This is usually caused by the capacity of your laptop to handle video editing but once you export the whole video it should be fine. If you check my channel, all my videos and intros were created using VSDC free version and I never had problems. You should also check the file type you are exporting your video, there’s a preset for CZcams videos in VSDC. I hope this helps.

    Thanks for the tutorial. I'm finding that the transitions between clips are a bit glitchy. I had a fade-in value of 2 secs, fade out of 1 and an overlap of about 2 seconds. This is not just while previewing (I tried previewing at 240p but same issue) but also while exporting. Is there a recommended list of fade in/out and overlap values? thanks.

    • @KobieMC
      @KobieMC  Před 3 lety

      If you have a fade out of 2 seconds and a fade in of 1 second, you need a 3 second clip overlap. As the fade out finishes (at 2 seconds) you need that extra second to include the fade in. I would change the fade out to 00:02:500 and fade in 00:01:500 and overlap the clips at the end of the fade out (00:02:500). That way, as the very end of the fade out happens, the clips are overlapped and the fade in starts right where the fade out is ending which should blend them together.

    • @KobieMC
      @KobieMC  Před 4 lety +1

      Tethering options are extremely limited unfortunately due to Pentax not releasing their protocols on how it would work. Thethertools/PK Tether seem to be the only ones but you need their software for it to work and it also has limitations. My K-200D worked great with it but I don't have that camera anymore. I'll see how it fares with the K-3 and if it works well, I'll do a video about it.

      @@KobieMC Sounds great! Yes, I've only seen Tether Tools saying that they had a tethering solution for the K-3, but I've not been able to find a video of someone actually doing it. I tried connecting a Samsung USB-3 with micro-B to the camera and my laptop. Lightroom 6.0 recognized the two SD cards in the camera as storage devices and I could upload a photo to Lightroom from the card. I've heard that Capture One does a better job than Lightroom when tethering, but I don't have that software. It would be useful in some flat-lay/food photography situations to be able to tether.

    • @KobieMC
      @KobieMC  Před 3 lety

      @@isramgueta8157 Exporting it should be fine. The issue is when previewing in high quality, it doesn't buffer/render quick enough so you get lag/stutter. If you're using the free version, it doesn't use the computer video card to help with rendering. What you can do is change the preview quality (to the left of the play/rewind/forward buttons) which is the little down arrow. Drop it down to 140p instead of 720p (default). That should help, at least a bit. You'll see a little "720" icon just above the left side of the timeline. Click it and you'll get the other lower resolution options. It only affects the preview. Not the export.
