It’s funny because it often backfired (for rather obvious reasons), yet many well meaning parents can’t seem to adjust this failed disciplinary style. It’s also funny in how Norm lays it out with kindness toward this parent, who was just doing his best. He understands the absurdity in harsh punishment, and the irrationality in trying to tell a kid not to do something you do yourself. He also understands the absurdity and irrational behaviour in much that we all do and expect of others.
Why wouldn't hollywood give him the green light? Why wouldn't they accept him and give him more gigs? Was he that horrible no one ever wanted to make movies with him besides the infamous 2 he stared in?

Every little bit of good we can do for ourselves matters, but who’s to say what the correct balance is? It’s an onslaught of things to avoid. I’m glad he told his story so well, with some of its imperfections.
