- I found a video from the d5 conference i think it was, which was very interesting to me. I saw a lot of videos bitching about how mac is better than pc or the other way around. This video (orginally about 2 hours long), showed me something different. So, i've selected the most interesting parts to show you and hopefully make the world, the tech world at least, a bit more restful.
If I had a dollar for every pixel in this video, I would have 75 cents

I believe Apple and Microsoft are both good companies. But I must say, I am more comfortable with PC's than Macs but am more comfortable with iPhones and iPads than windows phones.

One has a button to maximise the window, if it needs to be maximised.
Yes, one can only delete the entire Trash and not part of it, but since it is already in the Trash, it shall either be restored or be fully deleted. The Trash is not a repository for undecided files.
One can has middle click with a mouse with three buttons or one uses BetterTouchTool to enable a gesture for middle click.
As to you being baffled, it probably has to do with your own computational needs and you deducing others will have the same, when those needs are completely different from your own.
I have lived with un-maximised windows for over a decade now and it is fine.

Yeah, I agree. It really is wonderful, how this movie got so many things right the second time around. The director really knows the story better than the one from the first part.
But then again, the lead actress was kinda bland compared to the dark actor.
Anyway, it was a joy to watch it on my 5" display, though I disliked the black bars on the top and bottom. Why can films not just adhere to one size. Stupid.

I believe Linux Ubuntu 14.04 is the best OS hands down. Although gamers are forced to use windows to be able to play there games. I'm not saying that Apple has a bad product. I'm just saying that as a company apple is not a good company. There greedy. Every device Apple comes out with has a new charger. Which in turn makes you have to re-buy allot of your accessories. Also another reason Apple is vary greedy. They skimp on parts and charge way more than there devices are worth. Also Apple is a locked down OS/Operating System. If you just want a phone and don't care about apple, get an android device. If you love apple than get an iPhone. I just want to let people know theres better options than apple that are much better.

Steve Jobs was probably one of the best minds to ever come into the spotlight in the last century or two, he wasn't super intelligent with computers but he was a natural salesman and had a charisma and ability to perform in front of an audience. Things like switching iPhones during the very first demo without anyone noticing to demonstrate the apps. He was just an all around marketing genius and knew how to get a product sold.
It's actually really nice to see that these guys clearly had a lot of respect for one another.
A lot more reasonable than most consumers are these days. Brainwashed enough that they somehow have to defend the brand they already gave a lot of money to.
This didn't happen until Jobs got sick. It's still good it happened.

So interesting watching their communication style. Steve is clearly a great oral communicator, while I found it harder to understand Gates. Jobs was also very aware of non-verbal cues and the underwritten human aspect of the whole thing. Gates is definitely a numbers guy; a builder, coder, like Wozniak, with a huge talent for business. Jobs is a visionary, the entrepreneur, fluid in his thinking, and intuitive in actions. He sees through all the extraneous information and cuts into the core of the matter.

Video and photo editing happily uses any amount of ram you have - sure, an i7 is not the best for that kind of thing but I'd opt for slower rendering/export for a better gaming experience

CubesFTW I use Photoshop alot tends to use a fair amount of Ram. Games like pubg can use up to 12gbs just glad I bought my ram before the price spikes.

Oh, come on. FOR THE CONSUMER, it was Apple versus PC. Consumers were obviously going to purchase one or the other. Even though Apple (Apple II, IIe, Mac Plus, etc) was my earlier choice, Apple eventually lost that game - not because of anything Microsoft did, but because of Apple's (Steve Job's) seemingly endless mistakes (not supporting developers, not expanding it's software base, ousting Woz & others, charging absurd prices, and so on).

This video speaks the truth. If Steve and Bill were truly against each other, then let me ask you this. Why did things like Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and others.... a Microsoft product, work with Macs? On the other hand, why did Apple products, such as iTunes, iPhones, iPads, what have you, work on computers with Windows?
Speaking for myself, I am a Mac user. Why? It is just my preference, I grew up with them, I have found them to be easier to use and I just like the functionality of them better. Are they more expensive? Absolutely. That being said.... I do not change or update hardware as often as some other Mac users do. I am running on an iMac from 2009, and it still works just as it should. I am still on OS X 10.9.5. Why? Because it works just fine, and I don't see a point in updating something until it ABSOLUTELY needs it.
If I am ever in a computer room/lab, and the only option was to use a computer with Windows, I will GLADLY use one of them.
Because if MS could make money out of Apple, why the hell they shouldn't??
The answer to your question is no programing is truly original, It comes down to algorithms and how hardware executes the code. Never the less its all binary at heart.

Even more significantly. back in 1983 Steve and Bill did work together to make the Mac become successful. There was a TV show where Steve said that in order for Mac to be successful he would need three software CEOs, Bill is one of them and he say that in front of Bill himself.
The difference between them is that Bill Gates was a programmer as well as the co-founder of Microsoft while Steve Jobs was a Marketing genius behind Apple's success. Bill has the upper hand here.

I use both Mac and PC, so I think both are great TBH.
They have different use cases, that's all.
I use MS Windows because I need it for work (C# / .NET developer), but I also understand that many people choose Macintosh because they use professional music and video editing software that perform better on MacOS, as well as people that use Linux OSes because they work with web servers and similar things.

This is kind of like modern day with iOS and Android. It's almost always about the software and not the hardware. Which they both pretty much do the same things. It's just preference to what somebody uses, and just because somebody uses one side or the other, it doesn't mean that they have to hate the other one. Steve Jobs I’m sure would have wanted feedback from customers such as longer battery life. If it gives users an extra 3-4 hours of battery life by removing the headphone jack, you think Steve Jobs wouldn’t take that compromise?

It's funny how 1 to 2 gbs of memory seemed like a lot during the time of the interview when most commerical computers today have an average of 8 to 12 gbs . Really shows you how fast computer technology advances.

As a computer history buff, PhD in Comp Eng, etc., I see what you are trying to say and do here. The merits of your argument are completely valid and are in fact the only way to truthfully depict the history of personal computing with respect to the two companies. But anyone with any sensibility will be turned off to your (valid and singularly correct) argument firstly because the video's title basically orders the viewer to do something that, until hearing an argument, they may not agree with. So those with a differing (and again, incorrect) view of personal computing history start the consideration of your arguments points with a bias against them. Second, most point of your (again, correct) argument contain the phrase 'you people' . It's just a phrase that makes nobody happy. I'd suggest "Those who think it's a war between Mac and PC". 'You people' even says to people who agree with you that you think your arguments and way of thinking are beyond reproach. In summary, you sound like an arrogant elitist who thinks they are above everyone else. This may or may not be true but it's never something that's helpful in convincing others to change their views on anything. It shouldn't prevent someone from changing their views either...but most people allow their emotions to interfere with rational thought ... His company was faltering badly in 1997 b/c of some poor product decisions and needed money. Gates and Microsoft offered $150M which the company accepted. There is the infamous live-stream of Gates at the Macworld conference - a huge screen behind Jobs - in which Gates is smiling and gloating as the Apple fateful boo him.
In other words, Gates saved Apple's (and Job's) ass. Gates has always owned Jobs in a way.

Well they had to get some market share from the dominant Platform and raise awareness. Yet, They were actually incredibly respectful. The pc guy was likeable, the ads were widely liked and thought funny, and this was the intention.
And it was a successful campaign that continued for some time. A normal add campaign would not have succeeded because they had to show why the Mac was better.
They attacked the deficiencies of the PC, and made the MAC seem cool, but it was nothing like what Samsung does which insults, mocks, and derides apple users, apple stores etc. THAT would be going for the “jugular”.
Compare that too with the surface pro adds which attack the deficiencies of iPad, but do not insult the users. Someone high up must have authorised that too.
I really wish Steve Jobs was still around, that was when Apple was at its best, but ever since his passing I personally feel like the company is being greedy in many ways. It was so hard for me to just convert to PC, because I used Macs so much and I loved them.

At the time this video was made, Apple was the one doing the "apple vs PC" commercials. This guy makes it sound like we are the ones who made it a competition. Nothing could be further from the truth. These companies were rivals and thats how they portrayed themselves to the consumer.

The fact that I have never had big problems with malwares and viruses for the first time in my life using my MacBook Air Versus when I used to format my PC/ laptops thousands times after times is alone enough to conclude that Mac OS is SUPERIOR and a miracle piece of gem comparing to windows junkie PCs. Not only that, the hardware itself lasts way longer than any other PCs.

Even though Apple started out calling their machines PCs in the 70s/80s - in the 90s the language changed and people started to distinguish the terms, Macs started to become a separate term and PC most often referred to non-mac operating systems.

After seeing the movie about Steve jobs life I thought him and Bill hated each other. I know the book said Steve jobs was very hard to work with and a big time A hole. It's really nice to hear from Steve himself that he called Bill to patch things. Especially someone with Steve's Ego.
Walt Mossberg (the journalist or interviewer) say in a documentary that he has heard them both say really bad things about the other. Still, the CEO's of both companies having a king of friendship, doesn't keep away the fact that both OS's have theri strong points (and for Windows that's mainly that it is not locked to a piece of hardware), and therefore there will always be a discussion of which one is best suited.

Just to point out your oxymoron that you made while attempting to make a point. You said people keep comparing software, not hardware. Then proceeded to say people should compare them like HP vs Dell, but that is an oxymoron as neither make their own hardware, not in the same sense. NOW Apple makes their own hardware (which sucks, no right click, come on), but the comparison is being made about software because that's what they do and hence should be compared. If its ok to compare HP hardware to Dell hardware, then its ok to compare IOS to Open Source Software (like Microsoft). Nobody would argue IOS is open source, and that's why people who do anything custom need a non IOS device/computer. And to breakdown the biggest difference in fundamentals between the two is their core business model. Apple makes products for consumers, we need a printer they make a printer. Microsoft makes products to improve technology, not the customer base.
Without these two we'd still being using archaic hardware and software.

Finally, someone who gets it. Even if you want to keep arguing which is better it's not Mac vs PC. It's Mac vs Windows. The fact is PC is an acronym for Personal Computer. Apple started the personal computer revolution. So a Mac is a PC. Get your terminology correct people. The debate is about software not hardware. Any PC can run the Mac OS, apple or not. It's the software that the debate is about and a PC is hardware not software.

Oh, come on. FOR THE CONSUMER, it was Apple versus PC. Consumers were obviously going to purchase one or the other. Even though Apple (Apple II, IIe, Mac Plus, etc) was my earlier choice, Apple eventually lost that game - not because of anything Microsoft did, but because of Apple's (Steve Job's) seemingly endless mistakes (not supporting developers, not expanding it's software base, ousting Woz & others, charging absurd prices, and so on). By the way. since the Mac uses propriety ROM's, you're flat wrong in stating that "any PC can run the Mac OS."

Of course, when referring to Mac v PC, the latter is obviously a reference to the earliest IBM PC (a product) running Microsoft DOS and onwards - a.k.a. how the two products were initially and since characterized. IBM/Microsoft, not Apple, made the name "personal computer" popularly mainstream. Because of the IBM PC, Apple avoided that name when referring to it's products.
