  • Knowing how to establish yam commercially in sacks is critical to ensuring we have a more sustainable production in our localities.
    Sack farming also makes it easy for you to also cultivate all year round within a little space and still achieve a great number of tubers, as this method of yam farming maximizes available space optimally/efficiently.
    This video is therefore here to show us the advantages of farming in sacks. Here looks at all the advantages of farming in sacks and why we should embrace this new way of farming.
    Also, leave us a comment if you have any area, you would want us to help you out within your farm establishment.

    Interesting indeed.
    Any adverse effect from the plastic? Plastic tend to release chemicals when exposed to heat.And we know the Sun can be burning hot in Africa. Maybe doing it during raining season? Just trying to fully process the idea, from all angles.

      You plant during the start of the raining season, if you don't have water or irrigation available and if you do, anytime

    How long do the yam in sack seedlings take to break dormancy from the time of cultivation to germination. I recently started this yam in sack on a small scale but the breaking of dormancy I can't really say how long

    • @ChidavAgriculturalHub
      @ChidavAgriculturalHub  Před rokem +2

      Use dried manure.
      No specific number of times, just ensure your soil is moist. But it should not be water logged

    I am particular on the statement of all season production because of the irritation. Does it mean that yam doesn’t have a season?

    • @ChidavAgriculturalHub
      @ChidavAgriculturalHub  Před rokem +2

      Actually, you can cultivate any crop anytime, as long there's water or irrigation.
      But, the rainfall season here determines the season. But with water available, you're good to go.

    • @gentledonald8201
      @gentledonald8201 Před rokem +1

      Temperature matters too but each state has a steady temp all year round in nigeria.. Mostly between 22 to 29 Celsius in the south and the temp is suitable for all yam species (Dioscorea spp), so yes Chidav is right

  • @chinwa6439
    @chinwa6439 Před rokem +1

    The soil might get compacted, what about irrigating the bags and then pouring it over,so it will be easy to remove??

    • @ChidavAgriculturalHub
      @ChidavAgriculturalHub  Před rokem +1

      This is dependent on the time you're harvesting.
      But, you won't want to incur cost on irrigation when you've already gotten your harvesting target.
      Just little effort is actually though. One of the advantages of having your yams in sacks though

    I am interested but my fear is d health implication of planting in bags. Can't d bag chemicals Leach into d food?

    • @ChidavAgriculturalHub
      @ChidavAgriculturalHub  Před rokem +2

      Well, you have to use a sack that was not used to preserve chemicals.
      Or, you ensure you do a thorough washing prior usage

    • @kafilatabimbola2169
      @kafilatabimbola2169 Před rokem +1

      I mean d chemical composition of d sac itself and it's gradual disintegration when exposed to weather

    • @ChidavAgriculturalHub
      @ChidavAgriculturalHub  Před rokem +2

      Well, for now, we've not done analysis of sacks to find out their chemical composition.
      But, this are biodegradable materials and that's what we look out for. Reason we don't recommend the usage of nylon.
