    If you don"t have seed yam but buy a yam tuber from the market, can you cut it into 4 to 5 pieces and grow them ? will they grow to be full tubers ?

    • @ChidavAgriculturalHub
      @ChidavAgriculturalHub  Před rokem +3

      The number of setts is dependent on the size of the tuber. Yes, they will grow into tubers with good management

    Do I need to add water immediately after I planted yam in the sack

    • @ChidavAgriculturalHub

      You don't have to. But without water, it may not sprout as expected. The soil should just be a bit moist and not too moist when you want to apply water eventually.

    What is milking
    How do I get yam seed from the already planted yam

    • @ChidavAgriculturalHub
      @ChidavAgriculturalHub  Před rokem +1

      Milking is method of harvesting twice from a yam during it's lifespan.
      You firstly harvest the tubers after like 5 to 6 months, without damaging the root system of the yam, then you leave out the vines and root and cover with soil, after which, you allow to develop another set for about 3 months, this time, what you would get would be the seed yam.

    Hi Chidav...So I planted yam in sacks but the yield wasn't encouraging, the same seeds did well on another site, so I think the soil is suspect. Is there a crude way to do a soil test?

      There are a lot of factors that would have been responsible for the poor yield
      And I can't point to one. Of course soil nutrition level would play a huge role in it.
      You can try getting enough manure for your field. And also use a very big sack when planting next, and ensure you have a good yam seed
