  • This is not a raging debate, but maybe it should be. There's so much that goes into green screen videos shot in a small room, that much of it we take for granted.
One of the main decisions is what resolution you're going to shoot in. The reason that's so important is that it affects everything down the line, like graphics, rendering, jump cuts and story.
This weekend I made a series of surprising discoveries about shooting resolution.
The answers I found could release you to make your best green screen videos ever...just by making the right choice of shooting resolution.
This may be the first easy button solution I've ever encountered. It isn't really, but it will probably feel like it. :)

Thank you for the useful update. Like many others, I've been chasing the perfect green screen mix of lighting, technology, settings, and wizardry. Never getting it perfect enough. This is a nice reset - to the basics - which work.

my big problem is camera shyness when the cam isn't on I can read a script flawlessly, but when it comes on I can't even talk right. Your so relaxed on cam, nice incidental comedy inserts, and your so good at expressing yourself. So I'll look for these videos maybe they'll help me thank you for all these great videos you make to help people.

Tomorrow’s video is all about that on camera issue. Hope it lands for you.

Another master class Steve. Thank you. Apart from the technical aspects of good green screen, one of the major obstacles (literally) that I face in a small room studio is the hazards of all the light stands and tripod. Trip hazards galore.

Another amazing video, Steven!! It's good to know that you don't have to shoot in 4K to get a good key. I've been hyper focusing on the hardware and specs and all that that I haven't actually been making videos. So I plan to do more work on the most important part: actually making a good video. Thanks again for all your hard work and for sharing your expertise.

This was extremally useful. Having moved to a new location, There is a small bedroom that I'm turning into a 3D workshop/studio. Not much room to work with, but its the most room i have to work with without having to set up and disassemble everyday. I have not tried shooting any video yet, but with this new info from you, it gives me a great starting point. Thanks.

Steve just starting my green screen adventures. I am shooting videos for marketing and educating potential clients. I am taking your video production master course on Udemy currently. I am posting my videos on social media. Giving the information you discovered on this video. Can you recommend a camera for a newbie that meets these requirements that is budget conscious for a beginner. Find myself really excited about this aspect of my work. Thanks for all the tips!!!

I didn't include recommendations of specific cameras because they change over time. But if I was in the highly competitive realtor space, especially given market conditions today, I would invest in a camera that gives me the ability to shoot in ProRes HQ and get even a budget zoom lens to go with it. And to me the only clear (semi) budget choice right now is the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K. Best of luck and I hope you're enjoying the course!

Thanks Steven! I agree it’s super competitive. I believe video will be what differentiates the pack. Being new to video its intimidating for sure. If you have any other advice on how I can accelerate the learning curve I would love to hear it!
