    You mention tests to find out limiting factors for ridigity and mobility. Any plans on doing a video of what kind of tests that might be and how those relate to the toolboxes?

    This is very very helpful. Would you be able to do a video on assisted running, plyo and circuits as i dont know where to start with implementing this kind of training

    A good way to find energy leaks is long duration ISO holds. Look up Tommy john for more info

    Essop, what would be considered assisted plyometrics?

    Essop, do you have any examples of circuit training you employed back in your track days?

      manbeerpigs16 ditto. What's a circuit

      Hi Ben. A circuit is a list of exercises done for time or reps with measured recovery. The list of exercises can then be repeated. So a really basic total body circuit would be 20 sec press ups, 10 seconds rest, 20s pull ups, 10 sec rest, 20 sec squats, 10 sec rest, 20s sit ups 30 sec rest. Repeat.

    problem is finding a place to do downhill running..., instead of overspeed training cant you just factor in a cycle of explosive work to overclock your cns?, a in a cycle of strength then a cycle of speed work where the main aspect of the training is explosive weight work/ plyos/sprinting.

    eloborate on assisted work for me? ive been following a powerlifting routine as im competeing in both sports, also could i be slower if i shaved off 30 pounds of bodyweight while adding 100 pounds to deadlift and 50 to squat? thanks

    • @essopmerrick2283
      @essopmerrick2283  Před 7 lety +1

      Downhill running, over-speed, bands to increase speed that sort of thing. Could you be slower? It's possible. It's also possible you could be much much quicker. It depends bio mechanically how you added the strength and whether that strength was a limiting factor in the first place. The decrease in body weight is always going to help if you have kept the same functional power.

    If the track is closed, just jump the fucking fence!

    • @essopmerrick2283
      @essopmerrick2283  Před 7 lety +4

      True. Many an athlete has done the warm up jump over the fence. The problem comes when you get banned by the groundsman and they have your photo as a most wanted on their hut!! :-)

    • @gothops2632
      @gothops2632 Před 7 lety

      lol you wouldn't want that. Fortunately I've managed to jump the fence many times here in Australia without any such problems :).

    Having not done track, is there a difference in sprinting training from a sprinter point of view vs a decathlete point of view?

    • @essopmerrick2283
      @essopmerrick2283  Před 7 lety

      The short answer is no. The training is the same. The volume would be adjusted because of the other training.
