    Your big-picture perspective is genius. Weights to correct imbalance and reinforce correct form/movement patterns. That's revolutionary and it just feels & sounds true. Thank you.

      Essop Merrick you're welcome. also may I ask you something please.
      Are you an athletic/sprint coach? and where are you based?

    • @essopmerrick2283
      @essopmerrick2283  Před 7 lety +4

      I help people. I don't consider myself to be a coach, per se. I'm more just an adviser. I don't think it is possible to properly coach someone from afar. I think you can advise and give them the tools so they can help themselves.
      I think coaching is a very intimate relationship closer to parent/child because of the importance of emotion in the neural sports learning process.
      I'm based in Wales in the UK.

    Your videos are consistently great. Where else besides youtube are you sharing them? I think getting them featured on more fitness sites e.g. reddit.com/r/fitness, reddit.com/r/running, reddit.com/r/sprinting, bodybuilding.com, etc. would pay huge dividends for you.

    I still sprint (compete and coach others) and you hit the nail on the head. Why are you doing this exercise? You would not believe how many athletes could not give a good answer to that

    What do you think about atg style with a toe raise when you come up? that way less stress on the back and knees and you get to strengthen the muscles involved in planter flexion ?

    How should we chose the exercises we train

  • @johnphiliplee8101
    @johnphiliplee8101 Před 8 lety +6

    What's your experience with the variations in training for the different sprint events? Especially when it comes to the 100M/200M and 200M/400M pairings. A more specific prompt, Maurice Greene and Michael Johnson had different strategies in 200M based upon their different strengths. So how did their training reflect those differences? Great content by the way!

    • @essopmerrick2283
      @essopmerrick2283  Před 8 lety +6

      Great question. Maurice was coached by John Smith who was pretty heavily influenced by the work of Charlie Francis. He was looking for weights to transfer to track performance. He is also a believer in trying to recreate the angles and positions form sprinting in the weights room.
      Johnson was coached by Clyde Hart who had a more US orientated view of weights. M. Johnson in his book 'Slaying the dragon' spoke of his early college years being hampered by injury. His coach's solution was weights to strengthen his hamstrings, (because he has a sway back and a very anterior tilted pelvis) which is closer to the re-correcting imbalance concept.
      However, this is not to say that M. Johnson was not strong in the weight room. He was. When you are powerful enough to sprint 10 dead, the strength you require to re-correct imbalance will be significant.
