  • A little bit of a different video but hopefully you find it interesting. Having a good grip on your handle is essential for confidently taking a shot and accuracy. Note, this method is not suitable for plastic handles that a lot of spearguns come with. If you end up using this technique on your DIY speargun project please tag me in your photos, I'd love to see them.

    *Tricks for working with epoxy resin:*
    I filled my resin into soft squishy bottles from Aliexpress like they are used for dispensing ketchup. It works great to accurately fill out the correct weight of resin into my mixing cup.
    I mix the resin slowly to avoid bubbles when it is important.
    When I use brushes I wash them in ethanol afterwards.
    If not crucial for a perfectly clear resin I use the mixing cups several times and mix fresh resin simply on top of already cured resin. That way in the bottom of the mixing cup I get a nice layered piece of all the resin colours I have used in the past.

    Another way to add non slip to areas which I find is good, and very nice on the eye.
    Mask off the area you want to make non slip. Mix some resin, epoxy or polyurethane is fine. Paint the area, then sprinkle normal sugar onto the wet resin, cover it in sugar well and allow to dry. Once resin has cured, rinse off the sugar, it will dissolve and leave a lovely grippy surface.

The outer diameter of the carbon tube is larger than the muzzle and handle outer diameter where they meet... leaving a shelf of carbon barrel. What would you do? Sand down the barrel? ... or.... Build up the muzzle and handle around their socketed fittings?

      I find the wear and year on carbon guns is minimal compared to timber guns. I've had some of my carbon over timber guns in circulation for 7 years and they function as good as the day they were built. That's one of the main reasons I went to a composite speargun because of the lack of maintenance.

      Joe Pike has a great video on that very subject you might find helpful.

    Real tidy job Daniel! How do you keep your carbon fibre looking so well? Mine has lost its shine and looks scruffy :(

      They get roughed up with scratches after lots of use, I like it that way.

    Good night, I am trying to install a trigger mechanism in a wooden speargun. When I install the mechanism and insert the shaft and pull on it it's slipping out. What could be the problem? It's the first one I made.

    • @DanielMann
      @DanielMann  Před 2 lety +1

      The trigger pocket may be too shallow to allow the sear to fully drop enough to engage the shaft.

      @@DanielMann thanks, I looked at it this morning and the back of the mechanism is lower than the front. I have to make the adjustment👍

      @@DanielMann good afternoon, I usedthe router to even the hight of the mechanism and it is still not working. We raised the back part of the mechanism and the shaft is locking. So I have to fill in the back with epoxy and see if it works. Would that be right to put the Bach higher than the front?
