In all honesty; people like you make owning used cars fun. I was able to diagnose my entire EGR system in one video as opposed to just the egr valve. I did not know about the VSV solenoid and that was my cars issue. I can sleep better because videos like this exist. Liked, commented and subscribed.

Thanks so much for your excellent video. It helped me track down the cause of my P0401 error code on my 1997 Camry. It turned out to be the Vacuum Modulator- probably one of the easiest components to replace in the EGR subsystem.
I used to love working on cars back in college and shortly there after, from about 1980 to 1990. My cars tended to be from the early days of emission controls, so they were very simple to fix. Then I got busy with life. This is my first attempt working on a relatively modern car, and your video really helped me understand the troubleshooting and repair steps.
I look forward to watching more of your videos.

I am VERY appreciative of great videos like this. I'd just like to add one additional thought. I have on '01 4 cyl. Camry where I first (without testing anything) replaced the VSV valve and EGR Valve. Cleared the P0401 code but it came right back. Changed gas cap, Vacuum modulator, and a couple evap lines. Cleared the code but it came right back. Changed the VSV again with a better quality (aisin) part and relocated it to the firewall. Code came right back. Cleaned throttle body. Still the same code. Finally, as a last-ditch effort to be able to get my car to pass inspection, I spent $22 (including shipping) from ebay for a used ECU. It's been 500 miles and I haven't seen the code yet.

I did everything else you discussed except the modulator. I ended up pulling the vacuum modulator out of another 95 Corolla we have, to compare. I guess the diaphragm in the vacuum modulator in the first car broke, but the second car's modulator worked properly. Thanks again!! :)
