    And for clarity - they are made in Taiwan in a facility that ONLY manufactures brake pads. They take a lot of pride in their process. We will hopefully, eventually be able to bring manufacturing over here. But they WERE developed in Utah over the course of a couple years while we worked on getting the compounds where we wanted them.

    Well this is flattering. Thanks Dustin. Cool to hear how long you’ve been using them - validates the review. Appreciate it.

    Had 2 sets already in the cart to purchase and then figured I'd see what the reviews were. Started watching this and then paused it after a couple minutes to just go ahead and finish the purchase, haha! Looking forward to sampling these pads out here in Oregon and beyond. Thanks for the awesome review!

      Nice, they are awesome. I am on them over a year and have them on all bikes and friends bikes. Super rad pads! Congrats and I hope you like them as much as I do.

    I bought a set of these and have only been on them for 2 rides, but these are Squamish, BC rides so quite rowdy where a lot of braking, especially modulation is required and the difference was very noticeable. These brake pads performed so much better than the mfg brake pads. I still have a few rides to test them on, but so far I would highly recommend these brake pads.

    Stoked man for this review 🤙🏻because I just ordered front and rear set for my Shimano XT 4 pistons running Galfer 223mm rotors. I got a heavy ebike that no matter what pads I threw in it…they would just start fading on long descents and make the ride very sketchy. I ordered the Gold Series, can’t wait to try them for myself. Thanks. Just noticed we are about the same on Subscriber count! Keep up the good work…Subbed🤘🏻I also just shared your video with my Facebook group. Can’t wait to do a review myself.

    Great review Dustin. I just switched my bike to a canyon freeride e bike 180 and just got the gold pad and 220 2.0 rotors front and rear. Do you think this will be good for Northstar? I ride Northstar 2-3 days a week. I have Shimano slx four piston brakes.

    I’ve had these for a while. Amazing difference from anything else. I’m riding steep long descents here in Pemberton and whistler. Only issue that I’ve had is that in dry dusty conditions they seem to glaze frequently. This only happened after nearly a full season but then pretty regularly. Depending on what you ride etc they couple be there perfect pads; for me and so others from my area the maintenance is just a little too much. I’ve had them on my regular bike and my Ebike. Had to change my Ebike pads back to the saint ones still got them on the regular

      @@LoamRoamer hi. Yeah they’re great guys. They think that they’re contaminated beyond recovery. Sending out a new pair. Another guy from whistler has the same issue. Strange one for sure. 🍻

    I've used Shimano resin pads on my XC/trail bike for years and never noticed any durability or contamination issues, but I usually avoid heavy mud. I usually get well over a year's life and that's riding several times a week on technical trails with moderately steep descents. My new bike came with metallic Shimano pads so I'm interested to see how they perform in comparison over the longer term.

    • @LoamRoamer
      @LoamRoamer  Před 3 lety +4

      We did a race and in one lap the Shimano resin pads were 100% failed. This winter did a full-on rain and mud ride on MTX pads, still running them no issue. I ride plenty when it is in poor condition and used to need to change pads often. That issue is no longer! Good to hear you have better luck with the factory pads!

    I’m going to try these on my next purchase. Have you ever dealt with glazed icetech rotors? I replaced pads (Shimano resin) because I thought they were contaminated but the new ones were exactly the same (very weak power, super loud squeal, bedding in only helps temporarily). All signs point to glazed rotors. I’ve seen sanding recommended, as well as just throw them away. Any suggestions?

    • @LoamRoamer
      @LoamRoamer  Před 2 lety

      Rotors are stainless so using emerycloth and lightly scrubbing them works. After clean them with rubbing alcohol or break clean. Then try and bed them in. Also, do this before going MTX, best to start with a clean rotor. If your rotors are a year old measure the thickness, make sure it meets the minimum. If getting thin, go with galfer rotors. They just work. Hope this helps, let me.know if this works for you. When was your last brake bleed?

  • @mtnbikerva1
    @mtnbikerva1 Před rokem +1

    When changing pads from one brand or type to another should you resurface the rotors/ sand, spray brake cleaner on it and wipe dry, or just take the old pads out and put in new? Doesn't matter what kind of pads were used before on the rotor, whether it was sintered or resin?

    • @LoamRoamer
      @LoamRoamer  Před rokem +1

      Great question. First I measure the rotor thickness to ensure they are still good. Second I clean them with Brake Clean and even lightly scuff them with emery cloth, very lightly. Then wipe them down with 91% rubbing alcohol. This ensures the new material is not contaminated with the old material, as material on the rotor is how friction is created with the pad. I do this even if I am not changing to a different pad.

  • @granttaggart2480
    @granttaggart2480 Před 2 lety +1

    So have you tried these on road/gravel? I get more fade on my road/gravel bike, since the rotors are smaller, speeds are higher, and decents are often longer and steeper. I've been running the finned Shimano resin pads, but they're really hard to find right now. I've use sintered before, but recall them getting noisy when they got really hot and they can also be a little too grabby, which is sketchier on pavement than on dirt. I can't find any information anywhere about people's experience with these pads on road/gravel.

    • @LoamRoamer
      @LoamRoamer  Před 2 lety +1

      I have them on my Rodeo Labs Trail Donkey and they work amazing. I agree, the bike with the worst fade is my gravel bike and they really perform there.

    Sounds promising, how is the longevity, durability, I was not impressed with Shimano pads, resin just lacks bite and wears fast, metallic cracks, but trp red pads were decent, but I am curious about Mtx pads. I am new to this channel and found you tru these pads, awesome content. I will watch more.

      They lasted 9 months with some hard riding with plenty of wet, mud, and dust. They have been the best pads I have ever used. They are now being seen in all the bike shops also. Which is amazing as they are not a very old company, says just how good the product is.

      EBC is just the same as OEM, not worth is. Galfer is good, have not ridden Trickstuff, but so far MTX works in every condition and are incredibly consistent. They are truly a higher performing material.
