  • We have been riding MTX Gold Label mountain bike brake pads for about a month here in Whistler and thought we'd let you know what we think about the ceramic compound.

    Thanks for this video. Helped me make the decision to buy the Race model combined with Galfer Rotors.

      @@RidingThruLife it went spectacularly! Friday night I installed everything, test rode on my street, then Saturday I tested them out on a Black Diamond trail in the Pisgah National Forest. No crashes, no issues. I had grip when I needed it right away, with out having to death grip. It was plenty of power. It made SRAM G2 feel like a whole new brake system. Ha! Sticking it to the Shimano man! But I’m not hating. Just don’t want to buy an entire system when all I needed to do was this.
      Take care.

    Do you have to break in these brake pads or embed them into the rotor before you start riding?

    • @RidingThruLife
      @RidingThruLife  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey Eugenio, sorry, I should've covered this in the review. Still learning 😜 All I did was install, then did a couple experimental lever pulls in the driveway and headed to the trail. On the 1st ride I did drag them a bit while heading to the trail and then did a couple hard long pulls on the first down, but to be honest they bed in really quickly and without doing anything special at all. It probably helped that the rotors were brand new as well and had not been touched by another compound. It was a quick and easy process. 🤟

    So, after a summer on the gold pads how are they wearing and are they silent in the dry?

    • @RidingThruLife
      @RidingThruLife  Před 2 lety +2

      Hey ThunderStruckCoach, funny you should ask! 🤪 I am actually going to do a follow up review/comparison video as there is a new brake pad company in Canada offering a similar product. I can say that the wear has been great but there has been some issues . I’m just confirming it’s not my calipers today before I make the video. I will say I have had a few noise/glazing issues recently and I want to make sure it’s nothing I’m doing before doing the video. For the most part they have been unbelievable but I’m a little concerned about the lack of any seen contamination and the noise/glazing issues. I’ll def keep you posted🤙

      @@RidingThruLife Thanks for that! I'm 195lbs and use the newest version of Shimano's resin pads in my 520 4 piston brakes and am overall very happy with their stopping power and noise, but they do wear fairly quick and they can fade on my longest, steepest descents. I was going to replace them with the MTX Red Label pads, but the Gold Labels caught my eye.... Sounds like it's the Red Labels for me! I'll keep an eye out for your next video.

      @@ThunderStruckMTB no problem at all!! They have been amazing for the most part. I have just been having some very recent frequent issues in the rear pads with glazing and noise. I have contacted MTX once regarding it and have followed their directions. They were very responsive and seem to have amazing communication. I am going to reach out once more and see what they say and will keep you posted. I have some Red pads that I will be putting in my sons bike and, like I said, there is a new Canadian player in the ceramic kevlar pad scene Ill try as well and see how they compare. Let me know how your experience goes. 🤟👍

    Mmm a horse weights about 500kg and has a power to weight ratio of about 60W/kg (race horse) and capable of going from 0 to 80km/h in a few seconds, compare that to the 70kg and wimpy 25W/kg of top elite sprinters. There is absolutely no way those little brake pads will stop a horse.
