Touching a dog is not forbidden under Maliki school of thought. This is not to contradict Dr Naik but simply to point out that there are differences in interpretation of Scripture and these valid differences are actually a mercy.

And you also need to remember that the rules of Islam are applied to all people, to all generations since Muhammad's SAW time..1) there are no vaccines back then, the vaccines were invented in modern time 2)not all people can afford to pay for their pet's vaccination..this is a matter of hygiene..you can keep them as a guard dog or hunting, but never keep them as an indoor dog..if you really want to care for the dog, you can feed them, touch their head only when it's dry but never keep them inside your house

Dogs are not parasites. Dogs have been useful throughout history for hunting, tracking, and companionship. You can train a dog to bring you your slippers. Taking them for a walk gives you incentive to exercise. Then there are seeing-eye dogs, therapy dogs, bomb/drug sniffing dogs. Dogs can be trained to pull a sled, assist blind people to find their way around, and provide crucial emotional support for countless people (look up the 1925 Nome serum run for why this is important). They can help you herd animals. If you have a dog and treat them well, they will literally fight to protect you. There's a reason they were one of the first animals humans domesticated.

If you were to own a dog, you would vaccinate the dog when it is a puppy and revaccinate the dog every few years when required just as we humans do in our lives.
I own a dog, my dog lives in the garden, he has a big house and the freedom to run. He is vaccinated to prevent HIM from getting multiple diseases... Every couple of years he has treatment to prevent him from getting parasites (worms) and recieves treatment to prevent fleas and ticks and other parasitic infestations.
I would love to say that he has a use (like a guard dog or a worker dog) but really it's not true - or maybe he does... He honestly supported me through very difficult times in my life.
I don't believe dogs should be living in the house as I am not sure why exactly, but angels do not enter the home... I believe this now as at one point in the past I used to let him sleep next to the back door and it was difficult to cleanse the house of the bad energies sobhanallah, I'm not sure why this is but I know it is.
After touching my dog I will wash my hands very well as I would if I was outside touching the ground, dirt or any other animal.
I keep a seperate outdoor jacket and clothes to wear when I am with him so that I don't put dirt or hair on my normal / home clothes.
I think the most important thing is to practice good hygiene in life, to wash hands after anything you touch that is dirty or potentially dirty. To keep home clothes seperate from outside clothes or clothes that you work in. (I don't like seeing people walking to the mosque wearing the clothes they will pray in - sometimes I see people walking down the street when it is raining, muddy and the dirt of the street and the people splashing at the abaya and it honestly makes me feel slightly sad. I feel like praying deserves a nice clean clothes seperate. Unless this is impossible. If you go to gym you will take a gym outfit to sweat in and then once you shower you return your clothes to go home or maybe you will go home and shower and return your clean home clothes.)
Anyway I would treat touching a dog as I would a monkey, a donkey, a rabbit, a hamster, a buffalo or any other animal.
I also take vaccines to prevent certain diseases such as TB... When I visit my home country. It is high risk and a lot of family member have suffered with TB... But this doesn't mean I will not visit my family but it does mean I will take precautions.
This is my opinions but Allah knows best!

@Videos is breeding with cousins also worth the risk? How is petting a dog a big health risk at all? Petting a dog releases hormones that are good for mental health, having dogs and other animals in your home lower the risk of your children devoloping allergies. So in those few cases where something bad happen you have to weight that agains to many benefits. All animal risk spreading sickness and hurt you, but other humans is way more likely to do both.

@Videos I'm was asking about cousin breeding which is allowed and very common in islam despite increasing the risk for sickness and mental disabilities of the offspring, thats why we in my country see higher likelyhood of disabilities among minorities that pratctise cousin marriges. I've never said anything about not breeding, so most of what you write doesn't even make any sense. When I said I'd rather avoid children I meant like I prefer to not sit on a bus when a school clas go on, than petting a dog. How you interpret that to thinking that I want to stop all human breeding is beyong me xD
Its strange that I don't see dog owners drop dead or get injuries everywere..After all its just as dangerous as jumping from the second floor. You say its no worht the risk, but clearly many people think otherwise. Rabies doesn't exist in my country btw, neither does Salmonella among our poultry because we take great pride in taking care of our animals and prevent sickness. Dogs have served humans for the last 30,000 years. There is no other animal with the loyalty and devotion to humans that dogs have. Their faithfulness and loyalty is an example even to humans. They save human lives in the military and police, they lay down their lives as search and rescue dogs, the make life bearable for countless blind and disabled people. We owe dogs an immense gratitude that we can never repay. It’s time to start treating them with compassion after all they have given us.

I have never met a Muslim who is more protective and loyal to friends and family than an obedient dog. I grew up in an Iranian family, raised by a single father who admired all creatures; I was raised to be kind to all of God's creatures, and to treat all with kindness, respect, and to show generosity.
If I see a dog injured on the side of the road, I will care for it and seek help. In caring for one of God's creations, I show that I cherish all God has created. This should be the focus of such conversations. We have dogs who can sniff out cancer, dogs who lead the blind and help the disabled, and dogs that protect children against other creatures like bears, cougars, and snakes. Why do we consider them haram when one could say they are instruments of fate, or a merciful hand?
I expect this to cause a great deal of hate, but I felt this needed to be said. I do not follow a single organised religion, but believe in the power of organised religion. I am not here to hate on any one religion, but to provoke thought and conversation. Please, keep hateful and negative comments to yourself. Thank you, friends.

The problem with this guys is that he refuses to listen to reason and mocks people. Islam was handed down in the 7th century. Dogs are not haram to touch. The saliva issue was to protect against dogs with rabies. People used to have leprosy in biblical times but now we have the BCG vaccine and almost nobody has the illness. In the same way we are now able to cure sick dogs. We have a dog that lives with us. We couldn’t live without him due to the immense joy and entertainment he gives us. What an incredible animal Allah has created!! Humans and dogs have evolved to live with each other over thousands of years.

If stealing is wrong in one country it is wrong in every country, just because one country has a justice system(example vaccine here) doesnt mean it's ok to steel only in that country. Once you get into such crimes you'll most likely do it everywhere you go, and if you are in a pmace that doesn't have a criminal court then your finished(i.e no vaccine). What worse is, your robbing is not spreading to others (unless you kill everyone that you see once you leave the pleace crime, which is not likely what robbers do, except in a shoot-out.

If a person wants to live life according to how the Quran teaches one to live than I say that person is responsible for understanding what the Quran teaches. The Quran does not require a person to be highly intelligent to understand it. It's simplicity is what makes it so amazing. People that want to be considered important try to make the Quran seem difficult to comprehend in the way they create to seem difficult only in order to attempt to be a necessary component required to be utilized for the further understanding of the Quran. Basically we need the scholar's to translate because us normal folk to simple to get it right on our own. Lies. Only Allah can and will judge. If your heart is in the right place Allah will understand. And if Allah doesn't understand then his understanding is based off how he feels at that moment about what needs to be understood. So it doesn't matter anyway at that point. So don't worry . Interpret the Quran how u understand it. Do the work. Relying on someone doing the work for u and just excepting it's understanding is cheating and lazy. Allah can't except that . Your hearts not in the right place. So now u know. It's all on u . Your life is your life. Your understanding is your understanding. No excuses. Get your own understanding and point of view. You'll be surprised at how many others think like u and have the same understanding. But never judge anyone else. That's Allah's job. Why try to do Allah's work. . If you want to work so much do the job you're supposed to be doing, that's figuring out your own life and how to live it righteously. Now sure some can comprehend better than others however Allah will understand that . That's why he judges us based off our hearts. The only true part of us. So even then we not not worry about how much we can comprehend as long as we give it our all and it's with love. Now somebody tell me different. Somebody tell me some cult controlling nonsense to combat what I understand as my Truth.

And similarly, We awakened them that they might question one another. Said a speaker from among them, "How long have you remained [here]?" They said, "We have remained a day or part of a day." They said, "Your Lord is most knowing of how long you remained. So send one of you with this silver coin of yours to the city and let him look to which is the best of food and bring you provision from it and let him be cautious. And let no one be aware of you.
Indeed, if they come to know of you, they will stone you or return you to their religion. And never would you succeed, then - ever."
And similarly, We caused them to be found that they [who found them] would know that the promise of Allah is truth and that of the Hour there is no doubt. [That was] when they disputed among themselves about their affair and [then] said, "Construct over them a structure. Their Lord is most knowing about them." Said those who prevailed in the matter, "We will surely take [for ourselves] over them a masjid."
They will say there were three, the fourth of them being their dog; and they will say there were five, the sixth of them being their dog - guessing at the unseen; and they will say there were seven, and the eighth of them was their dog. Say, [O Muhammad], "My Lord is most knowing of their number. None knows them except a few. So do not argue about them except with an obvious argument and do not inquire about them among [the speculators] from anyone." Quran 18:18-22

The problem with Dr Naik's answer is this: He assumed that the querry was whether it was okay to touch a RABID dog (emphasis on rabid). When in fact, the question was whether it was okay to touch any dog, in general. And another fallacy in his argument is this- He mentions "prevention is better than the cure". Following this premise, isn't vaccination the act of preventing rabies? Vaccination is a preemptive treatment designed to "prevent" an illness (by definition, as I understand it). Which means, his argument can be used to justify touching dogs.

@@aaribkhan9458 No Allah didn't say that!! Only the fabricated hadiths.dogs are mentioned in the Quran 3 times, not just once, 7:176,18:18, 18:22 . NO WHERE does God call the dogs dirty animals or give any indication that they should be avoided or treated the way many Muslims think they should. Actually the story of the people of the cave, in sura 18,, gives the indication. that we should appreciate.
The people of the cave, 3, 5 or 7 were mentioned in the Quran and every time God insists on letting us know that their dog was there with them. Their story can be as complete without the mention of the dog, but God did, Why ?
God is telling us these righteous people were in the cave with their dog, if it is not righteous to have dogs, God would not have told us that story in which the dog has to be remembered as being there. We have to know the quality of God, if we were to worship Him correctly. When God says something He means it, and when he does not, he means it as much. If God did not curse the dog and call it all kinds of name, it is because God wants us to know that He created that beautiful creature and He expected us to make all use and companinonship with that animal that accompanied these righteous people of the cave.
Fabricated hadiths contradict the Quran. Many of them narrated by Abu Hurayra. Abu Hurayra, whose name is translated as , father of the little cat, hated dogs and women and from his mouth came many hadiths that insulted women and cursed the dogs and make them undesirable animals that need to be avoided and in other hadiths killed.
These fabricted hadtihs were falsely attributed to the prophet Muhammed who cannot utter but the teachings of the Quran and would only be a living example of the Quran itself. The prophet Muhammed who lived by the Quran could not have done anything but agree with the Quran, not contradict it. God gave us a great criteria to judge His truth form the man-made fabrications.
[Quran 4:82] ....If it were from othr than God, they would have found in it numerous contradictions.
