Instead of swirling, as with a standard rosette, I saw a woman use a technique where she kept pivoting the piping bag back and forth in left-right turns, keeping the center point in place as she piped upward from the surface of the cupcake, and that made a wonderful high mound of cascading ribbons of frosting with a lovely clean finish at the end.

I just tried a similar tip and I thought it was awful. It would not let go.of the icing. Very unhappy with it
Hi! I like using them but they did take some getting used too. I know what you mean about the release I think they are better suited for lighter frostings. they took a little play and experimenting bit they make some really cool patterns which I do like. I hope this helps.
