This is also a great choice for soldiers and military personal. I had a G-shock G2500 during my service and it was perfect for the job (and it still works 15 years later).
    Great review 👍

Hi, thanks for watching! Yes the channels resident military expert Chris says he sees mostly G-Shocks in the military. Although he is personally more of a marathon fan! Appreciate you watching and commenting!

This GW6900 is one of the best G-Shocks ever made. I wear a GW9400-1 Rangeman as my daily, but if I didn’t have that, this would be the one I’d get.

Got this little beast for my EDC watch from Amazon about 3 weeks ago. $76 for tough solar + atomic was a steal. Very easy to read display, too. I replaced the band with a pair of JaysandKays adapters and a 2-piece hook and loop velcro strap. The fit is so much more comfortable than the resin band. My only other watch is a Citizen Satellite Wave GPS Diver (blue version). Excellent video, mate!

Nice watch. Personally, I’m a fan of the squares. I wear a DW5600-1E at work. Had it for a number of years with only 1 battery change. I wear this and not a solar version beacause it will be under hard use and will bet scuffed up, no reason to spend more if this is going to happen. The DW5600 is easily replaceable if lost or if something really bad happens to it, usually can be purchased for around $42 US.

I just got one of these via Amazon US. For some reason they are tricky to find in the UK and well in excess of £100 if you manage to find one. I don't get why the packaging is so basic on this model as it's not exactly at the low end of the gshock range. The box on mine was crushed in transit and I got a partial refund bringing the total paid to £70 delivered which is a bargain. These have an excellent feature set for the price with a classic gshock look and not oversized. I did note the strap and swapped bands with my GW5610. This is a better lug to lug fit but I do think the original strap is like that for a reason.

I’m debating between this watch and GWM5610-1. Which is the better watch?

  • @travisharrisphotography

Nice review. Funny enough I have a Garmin Fenix 6, that I love and use in the gym. But, I want to sell it and go to something more basic (like this). I am also a watch guy, and want to move away from relying on "smart watch" for everything. I miss wearing my Omega and others in my collection. I love the retro look of the classic G-shocks. However.. there is a frustration for gym use and I wanted to point it out here.. I just got the "square" DW 5600-e and this is great.. because it allows the timer to be set for less than 1-min. This is important for rest between sets, and for all of the stretching that I do before / after a workout. It also allows for a repeat timer. It also allows to see the time in the timer / stop watch modes. So, the more basic version of this watch is the DW6900-1v and for gym use, I actually think the features are a better match.. BUT, the looks, and solar aspects of this one (in your review) are much nicer. So, its so frustrating. So, if someone is planning on actually using the functions of the watch for the gym (like stopwatch / timer) than this perhaps is not the best choice. If however they just want a watch to check the time, than its perfect :-)

@@CasualWatchReviews lol, thanks. I still love the watch and going to get it too. It's just too bad Casio did not allow for the same features from the basic model into the nicer one. I think many people would just assume you can set the timer for less than 1min, or have it auto repeat, or to be able to see the current time while in any of thouse screens. Then, when you learn you cant.. it can be frustrating. So, I think the best is to just have both, lol.

In my opinion, the tool you've chosen is not suitable for the task at hand. It appears that the primary function you require is that of a stopwatch. Runners typically opt for watches with large buttons specifically designed for timing purposes. For your needs, I would recommend considering the WS-1000H model series. Features such as world time and 200 meters of water resistance are completely unnecessary for gym use.

Great watch but how useful is it really for exercise? You can only use the stopwatch and timer. A fitness watch like the Garmin forerunner 235 GPS has far more suitable for exercise and it give you a lot of data/feedback. They're both about the same price. The g shock is good as a daily watch because you don't have to recharge it, but that's about it. But you can also use the Garmin as a watch when not exercising. I really struggle to justify purchasing this watch.
