I love quartz! And if you don't........ fair enough, but you shouldn't hate it! Here are 10 watches, plus a couple of extras, to wet your single tick whistle. Cheers, Jody
I am a quartz only guy. I highly value its carefree and durable quality. However, I also value design and quality materials and often the more interesting watches are mechanical. So, watch makers please offer more high end quartz models.
How do you feel about spring drive?
Right there with you
The bigger watch brands all manufacturer quartz watches. That is the default movement type these days. The majority of sales are quartz. Even some of the enthusiast brands are doing more inexpensive quartz watches. Swc, bolder, marathon, frederique Constant, grand seiko, most watch makers under the swatch group and many more all do quartz pieces.
Only quartz? Ew.
I have a few quartz watches (prefer mechaquartz), but I certainly don't like them as much as my mechanical and winding watches. To me, a quartz watch lacks the necessary quality of being a work of art that the mechanical and winding watches offer. Having watches that run on tiny little bits of momentum and keep going for literally a few days is a miracle of human engineering. Put a battery in there and the magic is gone. Besides, a hand ticking once every second just kind of annoys me now. I love a smooth second hand, especially in some of the Swiss high beat movements. And as for the PRX? No contest. Go automatic.
I'm back on the "quartz is good" back end of the bell curve when it comes to watch collecting. Just give me a good looking watch that won't break the bank to service, please
Same! Sold my two ETA watches and my Seiko 5s, now I have quartz daily watches and beaters, and a few vintage mechanical pieces. Much happier with this set up
@@orlandodasilva2529same here! Selling majority of my autos, whittling it down to just a few solar quartz divers, and a Seiko Dolce for dressy occasions .
What serviceable quartz watches do you have?
It's the grab-and-goability which gets a quartz selected from my watch drawer more often than not.
Yeah me too. Coincidentally when I open my watch box all of my quartz watches are set with the current time where as my mechanical watch I need to wind and reset the time, day and date. It's annoying to the point that sometimes I don't even bother setting the proper day and date
Quite the opposite for me - I always like to run my mechanicals, and the quartz tends to get bypassed - Just how busy is your life that you can spend 30 seconds (maybe a couple of minutes if there's a day-date to set, too) setting a watch?
@@marksaxby607 I guess I just prefer the superior technology. Maybe I should go back to using a land line too 😆
I'm mostly a mechanical dude but it's always good to see some respect for quartz. It deserves it.
Quartz Hate = Not a true watch guy. Love my quartz watches, especially my Bulova Lunar Pilot
When it comes to quartz im a huge fan of citizen. always consistent quality, good looks and awesome eco drive!
I have a couple of their solar watches. I am extremely happy with them and the accuracy is phenomenal. Unfortunately, compared to Seiko, it is much harder and more expensive to get replacement capacitors for them. It is worth bearing this in mind if, like me, you keep the watches long term.
Love to quartz getting some love. Out of all my watches, I just love my solar quartz Seiko divers. They are always spot on and worry free. Perfect grab and go and they are great when I snorkel.
I picked up a Scurfa Diver One Titanium last year and it’s been a great piece of the collection. I don’t worry about it getting beat up or setting it, I think a quartz piece is necessary for just about every collection.
Seconded - fantastic watches.
Just got the Casio Oceanus watch with white dial, really enjoying it.
My most worn watch is the Citizen BM8560-29EE (Garrison) after I bought it a few month ago. Saphire crystal and the Eco-Drive make it a real GADA watch for me. 200€ that made me happy😊
Oh yeah, set it and forget it
I am surprised Bulova Jet Star is not in the list given its smooth sweeping second hand and precisionist movement.
I actually returned a Jetstar because IMHO it's a shiny ugly hockey puck of a watch.
@@paperback10 I get compliments when I wear my grey Jetstar, I only wish the hands contrasted more with the dial.
I'd love one, it's all the smoothness of that Lunar Pilot but in a reasonable size. And some uniquely 70s design features that haven't otherwise come back yet
I've just purchased one (prune red dial) and it's a very nice watch. I don't have a lot of quartz in my collection but this one is deserving.
Oceanus OCW-T200 amazing! So much going on with such a clean dial.
am thinking on it, but i am not sure about the claps
i hope not an older seiko5 quality
Do it, amazing piece. Kind of wish it was 39-40mm but still wears well. The bracelet and clasp is fine & comfortable.
I’d recommend the Marathon SSNAV quartz pilot watch. Super high accuracy movement and real military lineage. 🔥
Casio Duro! Most bang for the buck watch. Add the bracelet from Islander and you really have something!!
I did this. Looks great on the islander Jubilee bracelet
I have three Duros. Amazing great watch
CASIO DUROS FTW!!! Especially with a nice Milanese strap or jubilee 5 or 7 linker.
@@davect01 Which bezel combo did you get? I'm guessing you've got at least the silver/black in your collection. Did you go for the Marlin logo or plain?
@@fancitickler With Marlin. I have the Blue, Pepsi and Batman
Yes you left off my favorite quartz watch the CASIO DURO. The best dive watch in the world under $100. MDV106 not the new one.
I've had a Certina DS action for around 5 years and it is an incredible watch for the price. I love wearing it
The Seiko essentials range (SUR Models) are very under appreciated. The Seiko SUR371 in titanium has been my daily driver ever since I snagged an insane deal on Amazon. Sunburst dials in a bunch of colors, classic Seiko/GS styling, framed date window, 20mm strap monsters, and come in a range of sweet-spot sizes. As someone who seems to be constantly running a bit behind, its nice to have a couple of reliable quartz models in the box that you can reach for in a hurry.
I love those too
Beautiful models yes
The Seiko SURs should definitely have been included here, a rather glaring omission. A Top 10 quartz watches video with not a single Seiko listed seems strange to put it mildly.
Ugh your comment about always running a bit behind hits way to close to home. lol. Definitely an advantage for quartz.
I have a Longines VHP and it's BY FAR the most accurate watch I've ever used. Basically, ZERO variation from the atomic clock over the last five months - amazing. This watch is a bit pricey but worth every damn cent!!
Agree love mine.
Only the design of the dial, and of course the price, has kept me from a VHP. I mostly wear a cheaper Certina with an ETA PreciDrive movement (sort of high-accuracy but not up to VHP standards) or a Citizen watch that listens to radio time signals.
Thank you. This video was perfectly timed because I was just looking around for an affordable quartz. Great channel.
My three favorite quartz watches are my 1987 Seiko Pepsi Quartz pro diver (7C43-7009), Casio Duro (blue, picked up at an estate sale for $12 in new condition) and my Casio GWM5610.
My love for watches did start with mechanical, but as my obsession with the mechanics died down, the superiority of quartz became undeniable. These days I am mostly a quartz guy.
Casio Oceanus s100 melted on my wrist. Wore it all day and night. Perfect watch.
I love my quartz Hamilton field khaki it spends most time in a drawer these days such is the hobby of watch collecting. Purchased my exit watch 5 years ago so I don’t really “collect” any more but still get my fix from videos such as yours, I thank you for that
What was the exit watch?
Love my Bulova Lunar Pilots, black, white, red and asteroid dials.
Wednesday morning at 8:00 a.m. and I get a video to watch before work? It's starting off to be a good day
I have 3 out of the 10 and many others all make me happy😊! Thanks Jodie for highlighting quartz watches as an alternative for collectors. Cheers Mate…MikeR. Canada 🇨🇦.
I have quartz watches from$50 to $1400 USD. Love quartz.
Thanks, Jodi. Your video made me happier this morning. Awesome job, mate🙂👍🏻
Liked your video even before I watched it! 😊 I LOVE quartz watches, especially themed designed ana-digital with interesting complications.
Great list! If I had to add to the list it’d be Timex with their indiglo.
Shame they're so fking lound in ticking. I have a weekender and it keeps me awake nightime if i don't put it in a drawer. It's like a clock on the wall...but on your wrist. Idk if other watches from Timex had same issue otherwise i'd love to wear an Expedition
@@Prometeus-ix3wr my T20041 is nearly silent. Love that one. I keep it on a black or olive nylon strap.
Yay🎉🎉🎉 Your wearing my favorite watch of all time!!!! THE HAMILTON PSR, aka The Live & Let Die James Bond watch!!!
This is the best channel ever. They should put this guy in the movies 🎥 😊
I learned from you Jody, to keep a few quartz watches in the mix for convenience. I’ve owned the Lunar Pilot for a couple of years now. It’s on the bracelet and I love it. Thanks for another great video.
Thanks, Jody. You don’t have to convince me. I just bought a Seiko Quartz JDM 3802 7010 from October 1971 - the first mass produced quartz. Still looks modern and still keeps good time. Cheers.
Thanks for the informative review, Jodie!
I was hoping to meet you last Sunday at the T&T pop-up, but didn't make it.
I almost got the reduced Bulova, but it was still too large.
So instead, I got a Precista Mission Timer PRS-56. Dimensions 45mm lug-lug and 40mm case with a destro layout, ETA Super Quartz, 100m WR, Faraday cage, and unidirectional count down bezel. 😊
I still would recomment the Casio Duro if you search for a timeless design and a reliable quartz watch with character that is less than 100 bucks. But only the old one with the swordfish.
Most overrated watch in the world.
Duro is ugly af , worst take on the submariner
@@vincentferreira1135 Couldn't agree more
So overrated. In my opinion a gshock is such better value or a basic timex.
I have 3. Great watches, amazing value
After trying and failing to finding a mechanical daily I finally turned to quartz and found the wonderful Seiko SUR373. Titanium, 40mm case diameter, and super light and thin. A high quality quartz watch is a thing of beauty.
Some new releases from citizen, Eco Drive Titanium look awesome
Beautiful watches, my favorite is Bulova lunar Pilot... classic version. Great work and great video. Greetings from Chile, the other side of the sea!
The Marathon 41mm Steel Navigator (date/no date) with ETA F06.412 HeavyDrive-PreciDrive Quartz movement is in many ways the perfect field watch. Rugged SS case, only 11mm thick, drilled lugs, high precision quartz, screwdown crown, a strap monster, bidirectional GMT bezel, sapphire crystal, long battery life with easy access for changes, and tritium for consistent lume. It's on the high side of quartz watches, but I find it is wonderful combination of features. Plus military proven :)
Picked up a Longines VHP last year. Wonderful watch, great fit. Really glad I was able to find it.
I have many watches, including an Omega Speedmaster Professional. In 2015 I bought a pre-owned Bulova Lunar Pilot bracelet model off of ebay for $285...basically new in box. It was too big for the previous owner.
Lucky for me it's a perfect fit. Now it's almost 10 years old and I've replaced the battery 3 times...and I use the chronograph a lot. This is a fantastic watch.
FINALLY! I finally am ahead of Jody! I bought the Yema a month and a half ago and now he's recommending it. Yes, it is a winner and you should buy one!
Jody I was looking for this video to come. 😊 I have my full of automatics and I have a substantial amount of quarts eco drives and battery powered ones. As far as cost and maintenance goes I do love the quartz.
Afternoon Jody, loved the upload but I’m gonna wait for my AQ4030-51A Citizen that I ordered 👍🏻
My preference is quartz although i also have automatics too. I have a number of Duro, which i had moded, new straps, upgraded the lume to C3 and on a couple replaced the minual glass to sapphire. Yes Jodi, your videos on how to do it during lockdown and have no regrets. I was very tempted to buy the Bolivia moon watch, however didn't pull the trigger because off its size. Out off todays offerings, The pro diver is the one that i would buy. Good vid, 👍
How and what did you do to upgrade the lume?
Talk about timing! I just ordered the Casio GWM5610 yesterday to replace my DW5600, for under 100 on Amazon you can't beat the price! Great video as always!
It’s such a great watch! Very tough, accurate, & incredibly light, too.
Loved it. I am also glad that I have some of these.
I have the Yema Navygraf quartz and I wear it daily. I absolutely love it! It’s the perfect size and wears incredibly well since it’s relatively light. Also the high beat movement makes it look like an auto! 10/10 would absolutely reccomend
Mechanical watch movements are to quartz movements as Carburetors are to EFI. Jody, I really enjoyed this one! Thanks to you I have some new targets for my wallet. BTW, Marathon produces some really fantastic quartz watches.
Awesome list, some new timepieces to explore. Would have loved to see the Seiko Arnie SNJ025P make the list.... Maybe next time. Keep up the great work mate 👍
Fantastic video. My favourite watch at the moment is the CWC Sub Hunter, absolutely loving it. Set it when the clocks went forward here in the UK and it's gained 2 seconds, great Ronda movement and 200m water resistance. My expensive autos hardly get a look in these days
My daily is either a Casio G shock DW5600E or an Omega Speedmaster X-33 gen1 depending on what I’m doing. I love the grab and go aspect of them. I wear my mechanicals too when I want to.
I will absolutely be grabbing the yema. Cheers!
Great recomendations, Jody. I have a few of these.......Casio 5610, Longines VHP GMT, Certina chronometer quartz-Ds8, Citizen ecodrive chrono, Casio Oceanus T3000. They are all great watches, but the Oceanus is in a class of it's own.
My quartz watch favorite is the Seiko 38.5mm black dial diver on a Forstner Klip bracelet (Bonklip style). Both watch & bracelet are both polished & brushed matching visually. The very lightweight Klip bracelet matches up well with the watch head's smaller size & reduced weight.
I have a square G, I have a Lunar Pilot and I have several Eco-Drive Citizens, the favourite one of which is a Nighthawk. All of them are simply excellent watches, which I am happy to recommend, too.
Some interesting choices there Jodie. My particular favourite is my Nivada Grenchen Chronoking "Paul Newman" Orange. Such a beautiful watch 🥰
Owned it for a month. Super impressed. No regrets. Will be part of my permanent collection as an example of what a quartz watch can be. I don't have GS money 💰
Wearing my citizen promaster diver now. The blue version of the one you showed. It’s just so much better than it has any right to be. Amazing lume, looks great, wears nicely even on my tiny wrist. ❤
Great video Jodie, love quartz watches. Another great option for a future video would be the Maen Hudson Quartz... and of course the (hint hint ) Erebus Ascent Quartz :-)
Been hoping for a quartz video :) I’m very happy with my quartz Glycine combat sub, some bargain prices around for it, slim case, Swiss made, good size, lots of colours available.
Thx for the Top 10. Yema is often described as a microbrand, which it isn't. They have been existing since 1948, and indeed disappeared almost as many brands after the quartz crisis. Since they have been resold by Seiko (which never made something significant with the brand), they've turned to a higher grade watch factory, producing and assembling locally, and more recently bringing their own calibers (designed from the scratch) . They have a large range too. I have the MArine NAtionale Navygraf (automatic version), and it is as good as any Swiss medium range.
I would add the Bulova Super Seville. Great call back to the original in a new case design. I love my blue one that looks different at different lighting and angles. Thanks for your consistent great work on your site!
I love my Certina DS Action Titanium, it’s already many years old and I still like it nearly as much as my best watches in my collection. Thanks for the PRX tip, I’m looking for one and will consider the quatz version :)
When I was on active duty in the Marine Corps I picked up a couple of great pieces in the PX. One was the one Captain Willard and the other was the Pulsar. Having the 007 watch was a great conversation starter, especially with women 😉
I absolutely love quartz, the only watches I now own after selling all my automatics.
Just bought the Bulova Super Seville. It has the precisionist high frequency movement you mention in the Lunar pilot. The second hand is so smooth. And with the gorgeous dial I think it blows the PRX out of the water (IMO). I’d recommend getting one on the channel! 👍
Bought a pre-owned Grand Seiko Quartz for around $1500 recently. Loving every moment with it!
Jodi, as always a great video.
A fine list, may I suggest to the viewers that Victorinox also makes lots of fine quartz, I happen to own one and it's crazy accurate as well as very durable.
Great to see Certina get a mention. I love my DS Action Precidrive Chrono
Jody the best Quartz ever is my Casio EF305. I don't know why you never bothered to check it. .. Thanks for all the videos !
Love Quartz, thank you!!
I've dismissed Citizen for years but recently I've started looking at the brand and they do offer a great bargain for their Eco Drive technology. As far as quartz watches go, this kind of falls in the realm of a Casio square, but I love my Royale with the steel and sapphire skxmod case. Excellent video Jody bringing much deserved love to the neglected quartz watch.
Hi Jody, I have a 6 1/2" wrist and own a Bulova Lunar Pilot and love it. I wear it all the time with no issues. I guess its a matter of taste and the philosophy of wearing what you like😂
I would fully recommend the "Orient neo 70s" solar panda chronograph. It's a jdm model that's really affordable and looks way more expensive than it is. Only downside is the bad bracelet, but I put mine on a brown leather strap and it looks so good.
I'm wearing Certina DS-2 with Precidrive movement as my daily for the past 1.5 years and in reality it is even better than the +/- 10 sec/year accuracy spec. Also case finishing and bracelet quality is very good for the money. I enjoy this watch a lot.
got my 39mm with the white dial on the 3-link "Bader" bracelet watch on mamacoo 3 weeks ago and am loving it to pieces. Absolute fantastic watch that wears super comfortable on my 6.75 inch wrist. Chose the 3-link over the 5-link bracelet for the toolless quick adjustment. Way more comfortable than my Longines Hydroconquest 41 mm.
I'll take a beautifully crafted quartz any day over a similarly craft auto/mechanical.
Love my quartz watches and my favourite is my Omega AT with the grey dial. Bought it used and it still looks new. I also have a Grand Seiko quartz that is great but as with many GS watches there is no lume. I have the Citizen diver from your list and the PRX. My Bulova Lunar Pilot that I purchased used was just a little big so was moved on last year. So many watch snobs dismiss quartz watches out of hand which is sad. Every collection needs both quartz and mechanical examples.
Great wee video.
I'm really glad you made this video! Quartz watches doesn't get the attention they deserve especially among enthusiasts. Ok, so some of these on the list were quite predictable. G-shock and Eco-Drive actually represent a few thousand watches 😂 You make a great point of getting the quartz version of watches if the manufacturer offers it. I have a Tissot PRX and Gentleman both in quartz. I decided that the extra details and features on the auto version were not worth the extra money. For a solid brand such as Tissot, it is perfectly safe getting the quartz version because they simply don't put out a bad watch. The dials on both those quartz Tissots are stunning. It would be great if you keep putting out more quartz appreciation videos.
Love my Griffys ,got 2 myself and bought my son one as well.
I have a Citizen “The Citizen Chronomaster” and it is flat-out my go to travel watch. I’ve got Cartier, Grand Seiko, Rolex, Omega, etc., etc. etc. But that Citizen keeps perfect time, eco-drive so I never have to think about winding it or battery, and it’s totally under the radar. It is featherlight titanium on the wrist. I don’t even even know it’s there. Love that watch.
Currently loving my quartz Baltany 1926. Needed a strap change to get the love it deserved, but it's been in my rotation since.
Hi, Love your Videos. I got the BULOVA Marin Star and it is the Best!!
Very helpful thank you!
A favorite quartz watch is the Marathon steel navigator no date version. It is fantastic
There are SO many and I love them just as much as the mechanicals. 👍
I have a load of Casio and I love em all. I also own a Lunar pilot which is a phenomenal watch and an Armitron Gold Griffy which is a lovely slice of nostalgia. Toyed with getting a PSR but I've told the missus I'm buying no more watches. Just one more watch indeed! 😂
I own two or three of the watches on this list. Casio Square G solar, Citizen Promaster quartz in blue, and a Casio A700W. I love my automatics, but quartz is just so functional and easy.
Seiko Dolce is also good. Thank you for your review !!!
I'm new into watches, and whenever I have the capacity to buy a mechanical one, I always have this contemplation of practicality because accuracy is important for me, Very Important. Hence a reason I still don't have any mechanical timepiece since I started to indulge myself into learning watches since last January this year.
However for now since I got used to the very affordable brands from Lazada (AliExpress-like platform equivalent in other countries) I haven't tried owning anything well established aside from a Casio G-shock.
But thanks for this video, I now had more idea of what brands to look for
Good list. I only own 1 Orient Bambino automatic, the rest of my collection is quartz. It includes 2 square G-Shocks, a Citizen Promaster Diver, which I put on a beads of rice bracelet, and a Casio Oceanus S-100 (most worn watch in the last 5 years).
I love my quartz watches. It’s so convinient to pick up a watch from a box after a month to find it working accurately. I am very satisfied with both Longines conquest and Frederique Constant GMT quartz on the one side and my eco drive Citizen, G Shock square and Casio duro on the other, cheaper end
Love my Solar watches
My Citizen Eco-Drive 365 (BN1014-55E) is my favorite quartz watch. Looks good and is reliable as. Totally bullet proof.
Love my Seiko Astron and get so many compliments on it.
Great video! We also love solar!
Quartz watches are the cats pajamas! Another great informative video, ty sir!
I like quartz for its accuracy. I recently purchased an Alpina Startimer Pilot Chronograph. I just checked it today. In the two months or so I've owned it it is less than a second off. That's right up there with my Lunar Pilot and my Seiko SSG017 which is radio controlled. That Yema is gorgeous. Too bad it's only 39mm. With my seven and a half inch wrist I feel that small watches look like toys on me.
My go to quartz is CASIO G-Shock MTG-B1000-1AER....not exactly affordable, chunky for most of situation, but...I LOVE IT...thank you for great review on...accuracy 😂
