Hi Matt, as with most things with Leica cameras, it’s the little things in improvements that make the difference. The Barnack cameras are the best deals in Leica these days. They are a basic camera in a small well built size. My favorite Barnack is the last of the original smaller sized body, the Leica IIIb. The viewfinder/RF were moved closer together, the RF diopter adjustment was moved out of the way under the rewind, the older style brass shutter cage, and the body and lens mount were more rigid with brass stiffeners. Not many made and difficult to find in good condition (wartime years use and survived). Put a 50mm external finder in the [also improved spring loaded] cold shoe for a life sized 1:1 clear and bright view, and the IIIb is a great user Barnack.

Matt, I've been drawn towards the Leica iii series, however I've heard that trimming the film leader needs to be done quite precisely otherwise bits of film can cause issues. Also the leader causes some other types of malfunctions. Oh... the focal plane shutter can get damaged by the film and by the sun. What's your take on that? They are affordable and charming.

Hi mat , great video as always. I have the IIIF RD and currently bidding on a IIIG! I can say hands down aside from my M2 and M3 these Leica III are by far my favourites. The design , the ascetic , the whole feel to this beautiful design is just a super joy to use. I will say hands down No other M aside from M2 and 3 comes even close to the beauty of these cameras. Thanks Dominique.

Dominique Collard yes I completely agree with you! I have a IIF RD (see latest video) which I bought as slightly lighter and even though I’m probably using Voigtländer RF cameras more the IIF wins for build and beauty! IIIG are nice with bigger RF but I find myself using the smaller pre-G ones more.

Zeiss eagle's are needed to look through
the small and dim Leica II G viewfinder.
The cheapest East German 1960 point and shoot

I doubt a Leica III G is better than any 1980

@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom Matt the difference between the later 111C and 111f +G is that these later Barnacks are a single solid cast body whereas prior. Barnacks have top added to the body. That's why I always went for C or F. The problem I also had with the 111C was the film could fall slightly and image would overlap holes. The 111F cured that problem with a tab on the bottom plate that keeps film in place. Look at bottom of your new 11f afte you take it off and you will see a tab maybe 1 cm long sticking straight up. The curious thing I do not understand is that the 111a seems to cost more than the C or F and I ike F best. Matt great video. I love the leica screwmount cameras as well. I now have a 111F bd. I got it in mint - condition, new curtains and cla for a price you would not believe. I do not understand why you like the 111a over the 111f? I do not particular like the 111g because it is bigger and the finder I do bot really find better. I am using the 111F with the voightkander 21mm ltm f4 with finder. On the street I shoot 3 lenses:21mm, 35mm, and 50. Right now the lens not mounted is the 50. Going to get a 3rd body for 50mm, now looking at an M4. Your composition would be faster if you used Auxillary finders on the 111a, even for the 50mm lens. I appreciate the way you are able to handle 2 and 3 cameras at same time switching back and forth. On film developing , you said you were developing 12 tolls per week. Processing film is the only part of photography I consider work. I usually an 6 months behind. When I develop film I use two 5 roll Patterson tanks and develop 10 rolls in 2 to 3 hours and can dry 20 rolls in a tall closed cabinet. In a crunch I can and have processed 20 rolls in an evening since I have 20 reels. You might want to consider bigger tanks. These caneras are still.professional cameras and really these days you only see very good photographers using them. You work very well with the model. Thanks for the video

I picked up a Ic for 15/21/25/28mm especially and will use iiF mostly for 35/50mm. Developing depends on how much I’m shooting. I try to do a minimum of 6 rolls but I’ve done a few 3s recently if testing cameras. There will be at least 2 more Leica screw mount camera videos to come to follow the recent Ic video. Hopefully you’ve discovered the Elmar 50/3.5? If not that is the best walkabout lens on these cameras.
