I had afriend that used those Barnacks! In rain and freeze, Larry took 40 mins to load, with leader. I left to shoot my images! Try the card way!

Do you know if there’s a Leica screw mount adopter to use Leica m lenses on that camera or Contax Zeiss Jena lenses with the Contax range finder mount ? Thank you 🙏

Hi and thx for this video. It s the first time I see this very useful tool. Do you know where we can find this tool (even a plastic one to be cheaper )?

Cool and sympatric presentation. But I'll stick to my M240.

You said to load it with lens FACING YOU ??? Was this filmed in reverse? I screwed up the spool or something in the camera when loading it with lens facing me as you suggested. I looked at other videos and the lens was facing away from loader.

Thanks for this video. I used to set the shutter on my Leica IIIf to T and open the shutter and just load an uncut roll into the camera, but I read that may damage the camera so I stopped doing it. I've just used scissors since then which works fine and is probably how most people used to do it. Do you know if there's any reason not to do it by the first method? Open the shutter, load the film, close the shutter, and advance?

Hi Tinkerbell, the sprocket holes in the film can get stuck on the sprocket gear. The film can occasionally chip and break off, jamming the shutter

@@CameraWestTV Thanks for the clarification. I've never had a problem just cutting the film leader with scissors. I almost always carry a pocket knife that has scissors.

@@guenin If you want a tool like ablon for cheap, just google «leica ablon 3d» or something like that, there's a free 3d model to print. I think the site is called thinguniverse.
You probably don't have a printer, but you most likely have a shop close to you which does.
I did it, my local shop charged me equivalent of only 2.5$ for PETG plastic model, but in your country it might be different.

@@O4KAST Thanks for the tip. I'll definitely look into it. I had something 3D printed and mailed to me before, and it worked out well. It's really easy to trim the film with scissors, though.

Here it is. Sure, scissors work, but this thing makes it easier, faster and more accurate at the same time for me.

There is no need to cut the leader so precisely. Cutting through a perforation hole on the other hand is not a good idea.

does not complicate your life! you don't need to cut the film. I always use my visit card I insert between the film and the flat spare part behind the film.
