  • Our Family of 4 is in beginning stages of figuring out HOW AND WHERE DO YOU BEGIN HOMESCHOOLING? Let me share with you how our first year of homeschooling went for preschool.
Getting that bookwork in, figuring out where in the house to homeschool, and just straight up
GETTING STARTED HOMESCHOOLING is something of a daunting endeavor. In this video I do cover the Core Subjects, but I am more of a minimalist so I don't have tons of resources to recommend for you. Overall I would say our style right now is following that of an UNSCHOOLING STYLE supplemented with a touch of ECLECTIC. We followed a lot of rabbit trails and interests like bugs, and space. Through that we uncovered so many good science gems and learning.
I am doing a bit of a mini-series covering some food for thought topics about homeschooling so I hope you'll stick around and check out my other videos on HOME EDUCATION. This video mostly talks about HOMESCHOOLING FOR 5 YEAR OLD - PRESCHOOL AND KINDERGARTEN. I'm no expert just your average mom trying to figure out what works and share it with you all. This isn't the be-all-end-all so if you have ideas on where you prefer to homeschool let me know in the comments below and help share with this amazing and encouraging homeschool community here on CZcams.
We usually finish in the mornings before 10AM, my little ones don't have the attention span to be doing bookwork all day and that's perfect! After an hour or so we all need a change of pace and it's time to head outdoors, and get some fresh air, do some gardening and just play.

Our homeschool kindergarten curriculum for our first is definitely more of a go with the flow kind of curriculum. Because I want my kid to still have plenty of time to be a kid: to eat, to play, to sleep and to experience and learn about the things that they are interested in. We do cover each subject and what we are doing for KINDERGARTEN RESOURCES FOR EACH CORE SUBJECT. CANADA KINDERGARTEN HOMESCHOOL CURRICULUM 2024 is a chance for me to show that I can do it. That I can TAKE ON THE TEACHER ROLE FOR MY CHILD. We aren't setting up a school classroom; instead we focus on LEARNING EVERYDAY. TEACHING NEW SKILLS and LEARNING HOW TO TEACH MY CHILD are the things I want to accomplish in MY FIRST YEAR OF HOMESCHOOL. HOME EDUCATION/ HOME SCHOOLING IN CANADA is an amazing opportunity for our family and for TEACHING OUR CHILDREN OUR VALUES and sometime JUST PLAY(ING). UNSCHOOL STYLE

I love hearing a successful homeschooling story! That fills my heart with so much encouragement and joy that another family is thriving in their homeschooling journey and even more that a family member sees so much benefit and good things in that for them! ❣❣❣❣

Such a great video! Unschooling is awesome! I love how you use so many of your local resources to learn like going to the museum and outside. Creating a code for your last name is such a cute idea!🥰 sounds like your first year of homeschooling was an amazing one! 🤗

Thank you so much!! I am truly inspired by the amazing and resourceful community here on CZcams! There is so much information and resources available at our fingertips; for our first preschool year I really wanted to stick with my gut and keep it as simple as possible. This year was a really solid learning year for us all and I am excited to see what the next years hold. We ended up doing so much more than I expected! Thank you so much for your comment, I super appreciate you taking the time to leave me one

Your philosophy is correct you have spent so much time with them!

right! The statistic that by 5 years old you have already spent 10,000 hours with your child is crazy! I hope it encourages and inspired others parents that are maybe on the fence about home education for them.

Thanks for sharing your personal experiences with homeschooling. I can see how you have recognized each child's interests and personalities, like readiness to handwrite etc. The reading and books are as important today as they ever were. The kindness and values factors are nicely portrayed. A++ 💯💯💯
We have been fortunate to have amazing teachers and a good overall experience at our public schools (in FRIM) in BC. However when they were small a lot of the learning came from home experiences like taking them out a lot and doing things together in nature. And I credit JK Rowling for teaching my son to read because once he started with those books it really took off.
    Cheers!!!

Thank you so much for your kind words! I really really appreciate it and am so grateful to have you part of our community here. I love to read but when I was a kid I seriously struggled hard and so tackling that challenge first with our kids was really important to me - and JK Rowling all the way!! I am actually reading aloud Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone to my kids this summer! And they are loving it!! We are hoping to read the books and then watch the movies together as we go through the series. I hope it sparks an even greater desire and love of reading.

I love that! Find what interest your child! I was raised in the public school system where there was no wiggle room and they did not cater to any one child! Maybe you got hit on the head by a ruler if you didn't keep all the rules!

I hear ya and I can relate! We didn't have the ruler in school but there definitely wasn't the wiggle room even when I was in school. I was in grade school with only 3 other kids so we always got smushed in with another larger class. I think I learned so many good values at home on the family farm and that really brings me back to what I want for my kids. When I was struggling in a subject at school it came down to my parents having to teach me concepts that I couldn't grasp at school. But I love that even with a 'short time' with my children homeschooling them I know what they are interested in, what they like and don't like, how to teach them and relate it to things they already know...and I think that is so so so cool and wonderful and I feel so absolutely blessed we are going down this path.
