- It's time! June Garden Tour!
Come along with me in my SIMPLE URBAN HOMESTEADING GARDEN Tour. I love working towards a BACKYARD HOMESTEADING LIFESTYLE. Along the tour I'll share some URBAN HOMESTEADING GARDEN IDEAS so you too can join and start urban homesteading in the city - creating a thriving backyard homestead in the city and a food forest.
Even though we live in the city I really believe in doing what you can with the space you have and working towards growing more of our own food. Simple things like encouraging those good bugs to visit your yard - this season we added some bamboo stakes in the hopes of encouraging more dragonflies to come over and eat more mosquitos.
SIMPLE URBAN HOMESTEADING FOR BEGINNERS just starts with a little bit of effort. We started with raised garden beds and container gardening. And have since expanded to include BACKYARD CHICKENS and made room for a homestead garden in the city. I'm just working with what I have, in the space that I have, to grow what I can.
Happy Garden Season! Open Collaboration for Garden Tours!

HOW TO START HOMESTEADING IN THE CITY. See how I make use of my space:
In the front yard: flowering apple tree and lilac bush to attract pollinators, strawberries, mint and chives.
In the backyard: raised garden beds, pots, and the main garden. The chicken coop and fruit bearing bushes.
In the New Garden Box: marigolds and wildflower mix, snap peas, and beans
In the Main Garden: cucamelons (all dead now), tomatoes, carrots, radishes, potatoes and peppers
In the Side Alley: rhubarb, tomatoes, peppers, strawberries, pumpkins
Come on back to my backyard kitchen garden. I've been wanting to try to make a few videos sharing our BACKYARD HOMESTEADING LIFESTYLE as well as URBAN HOMESTEADING GARDEN IDEAS.
We so enjoy the many benefits and opportunities of living in the city, but still want to create that BACKYARD HOMESTEADING LIFESTYLE | BACKYARD HOMESTEADING IN THE CITY. We have a SIMPLE URBAN HOMESTEADING GARDEN in EDMONTON, ALBERTA, CANADA - GARDENING IN ZONE 3/ GARDENING IN ZONE 4.
SLOW LIVING IN THE GARDEN is such a splendid way to take in those first moments of summer. Foraging those fresh green onions and strawberries - tasting the sweetness of summer. SLOW LIVING IN THE CITY GARDEN.

Saturday garden tour time! I am loving the food forest we are slowly working to create and build every season in our backyard city space. What kinds of foods do you like to grow for your family? We are definitely a bean loving kind of family! LOL
Thank you so very much for the shout-out I truly appreciate it 🤗 Even if you have a small space you can still turn it into a foodforest 👍🏼 Can't wait to see the raspberry pie recipe 😋 I'm out here now transplanting my blueberry bushes and then the black and raspberries are getting moved to. I didn't realize how much they spread. Love the skeleton out there relaxing in the chair 😁 I see yall been busy out there getting it in. Your food forest is looking great 👌🏼 Keep it up. Happy Growing 🌻
Thank you for your inspiration over on your channel Dianna! I loved seeing that this year you also started growing some haskap bushes and felt an instant connection with you
I am so glad that you're raising chickens!
I love them! I should really do a fresh video about them, maybe what they eat or something fun. I love to use them in my shorts haha!
I’m a homeschooling stay at home mom too. We have a garden and back yard chickens too! We love it. We have a small yard and make the most of it!
I love that - yay more homeschooling mama friends :) that makes me so happy that you and I have so much in common! Thank you so much for taking the time to leave me a comment - love and appreciate you!
I love hand watering!
It's definitely my therapy haha! But it is oh so satisfying! And now that the rain barrel is higher I am hoping to use more rain water for watering and feel even more satisfaction :)
Thank you sweetheart ❤
Thank you!!! :)
Your garden is so lovely. Your kids are so cute! Those raspberries look amazing. I wish ours did good. They are a challenge in the south!
How interesting! I can believe with excessive hot weather raspberries would be much more challenging - they really need to be kept hydrated and even I struggle with that here in this climate. What kinds of berries if any do you like to grow over there? Thanks for watching my friend! We love and appreciate you xoxo
@@bakerbrewz Aww! Thank you! Blackberries do very well here and grow wild. Lots of people like muscadimes but they have too much of a musty flavor for me. We also have dewberries or wine berries in the early spring that are a thorny vine that grows wild low to the ground. We struggle with blueberries and raspberries. If you are lucky some people do good with grapes. Enjoy your wonderful raspberries for us!
Like your chicken pot with the pansies!
@@PlasBachGarden thank you! It was a hand me down but I love it! It goes along with some of my other little chicken decor I am slowly collecting 🐓 thanks for stopping by and watching my video. Appreciate you taking the time to leave me a comment 🙏🙏🙏
@@bakerbrewz You're very welcome - happy gardening and chicken-decor collecting!
Hi cuties!❤
Hello and thank you for always stopping by! We love and appreciate you!
Hi 🙂 Great garden tour and good video 🌸🌞🌸
So nice of you Michelle! Thank you so much for taking the time to leave me a comment on our latest garden tour video. Slowly our food forest in the backyard is growing and giving us more and more to love and enjoy each season. Hope to see you here again :)
@@bakerbrewz I love gardening too. I only planted a couple of things this year but I usually do more
Peppers are slow to grow!
I hope mine finish and give us plenty! I really wanted an all out peppers year haha
