Upgrading something as simple as the RAM on this Acer Nitro 50 Pre-built gaming PC is harder than it should be.

I've mentioned in the last video relating to this that I have the same PC with different specs, any tips on what I should do with this? I was thinking about rebuilding it.
I also think that you should do one more video on this.
First step buying a pre-build system, Format C:\, clean and fresh windows installation.
Oh for sure. The herpes in these systems out of the box is on another level.
How can you can Window license after formating C disk?
If I recovery system, will recovery clean bloatware?
It won't be as perfect as a fresh install but it's pretty close

Yea I’ve never really heard of RAM sticks getting burnt up in a situation like this. Happened to my computer once when my bro installed a video card with the Ethernet still plugged in (my only conclusion as to why the system burnt 1/3 RAM sticks)..

It's still amazing to me how many folks DON'T have an SSD in their lapptop/desktop these days still.
It is surpising. Especially how many new PCs are sold without them. 😁
thats because most people arent aching for faster computers. they think what they currently have is good enough. its easy for us who like this kind of stuff to say that.
I'm one of them. My first SSD was on a very old laptop I have currently (2GB Ram, Core Duo T2400) that I don't use anymore myself. Still rocking with an HDD like it's 2005.
I finally bought one a few months ago, and everything is just way better. It's like having had a stuffy nose your entire life, and suddenly it's cleared. Now I need to do the same to my brother's old computer. My hard drive, a 1TB, has 64MB of cache, which isn't amazing, but it's 7200rpm and a pretty good drive. My brother's computer boots from a 500GB hard drive, that runs at 5400rpm, and has 8MB of cache. Ouch. So I need to fix that soon.
I'm an ssd fanboy but I find my 1tb Toshiba hard drive inside my main pc runs at an acceptable speed, it might also just be my 16gb of ram... (boot 32s, browser opens in 3s). Laptop hard drives are a meme thou, unbearably slow and prone to fall and shock damage.
I definitely wasn't expecting such a pain to do simple upgrades with this system. Acer seems to be about profit over ease of use or upgrade-Ability. Glad you looked into this Dawid. I would stay away from this Nitro Nightmare.
I got mine for Christmas and it’s not bad but the upgrade part is
Every OEM has been doing this for the last decade or so, but that's what happens when the most profitable company in the US is a god forsaken tech OEM that maintains that position by actively gimping the longevity of their own user's products.

Great to see the Tech Yes plug. Really like how the Tech community works together.
Another great video. I'm looking forward to seeing the next one
Superb explaination keep it up !

Haha!! We are clearly just on the same wave length.
@@DawidDoesTechStuff These problems you had are the exact reason im scared to buy pre-builts. i would much rather build a pc with older used parts, that way i will at least know what im buying.
I was going to subscribe and found out I already am! Great videos and always with sense of humor, love it!
But a Dell Optiplex tower might be easier to upgrade
I think they are. I want to do a video on one soon. :D
very easy actually. that was my first "gaming" pc. stuck a 1050ti and added a couple sticks of ram. its a great way for someone that's on the fence about buying a new console or going with a pc to dip their toes in the water a bit. I'm glad I did, now i'm an avid free diver lol.
They are
My computer class uses Optiplex towers, I bought a broken Optiplex tower and found that it was the hard drive that stopped working.
I just finished upgrading my old Optiplex 7010 and it wasn't too bad until I replaced the borrowed GTX 550 with my own GTX 1070. To fit a 1070 I had to cut out the HDD bay and with the motherboard layout I had to unplug the front USB ports and I can only use one SATA port and the only reason I can use that one is because I have a SATA cable with a 90 degree bend similar to this one www.amazon.com/dp/B07JW9RMTG?tag=duckduckgo-ffab-20&linkCode=osi&th=1&psc=1.
The Lenovo Thinkcenter towers are also easier to upgrade
This is my first time seeing a RAM pin fried. lmao
Getting closer to that magic 100K Subs!
0:40 You are playing DRG! :D
"I hate this damn planet!"
"Here we go again!"
If you are ever having trouble uninstalling programs i suggest revo uninstaller it usually can clean up persistent programs but a reinstall of windows is best option
The RAM spec you showed actually had 2133 as the base frequency!
As others said here, I would like to see a Dell Optiplex (or Lenovo Thinkcentre) build!
I got this pc for my Christmas and I love it but I want to upgrade it for my birthday could you maybe show exactly how you upgraded it
Can you do a review on this monitor? I was looking for a budget 144Hz IPS 1080p Monitor when I stumbled upon it

"Raid sha......." has heart attack.
And to THINK i was THIS close to buying one of those.... Thank god the shop assistant talked me out of it and made me get a custom build
Now onto the physical upgrades...er...mods. Side panel window mod?!
Thanks for the video David, I have the Nitro 50-600 and I have been trying to upgrade the USB because I need more USB 3.0 ports but I bought a USB 3.0 PCI card to install only to find it's impossible to install it on this computer, there do not appear to be any room, so frustrating!
I just recently bought one of these. Acer nitro i5-9400F/2tb HDD/256gb SSD/12gb ram/GeForce gtx 1050TI/ windows 10. And I was considering upgrading the ram to 16gb and the graphics card to a RTX 2060. I was wondering if you had any advice on that? I’m hoping not to catch a new computer and or graphics card/ram on fire
I found that the hardest thing to upgrade on my Asus pre-built was the cable management, seeing as the case was designed with absolutely none of it in mind.
I almost said it outloud: Put a SSD! hahaha
Great video man, informative and funny as always ;D
I run a 256GB SSD as my main drive (SanDisk) and also managed to salvage another 240GB one from my best friends old computer - both also have working windows on them - Great to have one to split as a work PC - Less distractions :D
I just bought this. Waiting for it in the mail. Reading the comments scares me a bit, but I do plan to add an ssd, and ram... But in all honesty, I don't plan to use this for gaming, but for music production. Should I upgrade the intel?
Is it possible I won't run into these problems if I'm not doing any serious gaming? Or that they won't be as troublesome?
Is there something you recommend I update anyway?
Thanks for the video!!
Now that you have shown the dif between 1 8 gb stick versus 2 4's, how about 2 8gb sticks of that basic ram they used? What is the performance of that?
Thanks now I can do this with my own pc (i have the same pre build as you) 👌👍
Have you managed to change anything on this pc? I couldnt change gpu (doesnt boot) and whenever i change ram, the pc doesnt boot and just gives me a constant beep that never goes away. Im thinking the only way i can do anything to this pc is by changing bios, but im scared of bricking it lol.
@@TheBaconator2121 Acer locks their PCs to only use Acer-approved parts, makes it more expensive and harder for the user to upgrade because they can't use standard components
@@theforerunnerreclaimer yeah i got it all figured out. Had to reflash the bios and now I can change my ram and gpu :) scary to do that, but it worked so im not even gonna ask questions lol

I'm already subbed but I added notifications!
I got this machine for my nephew a few years ago and wanna put in an SSD with a fresh install of windows but I don't know how to get his Windows 10 activation key. Any idea? Thanks in advance and great video keep up the good work
Well said
Dawid, I have heard of folks flashing the bios of this particular machine into something less locked down, your thoughts?
You have to check the QVL list of the mobile to see what ram is compatible
hey i got this pc is there anyway you can upload a vid when you change the case to clear and add lights and stuff to the pc?
The last time I saw 2x 4Gb sticks of RAM was 2011, lol.
Could you change case on this
Also Task Manager doesn't always report the right ram speed for some unknown reason, At least on my system its says im running DDR4 1066 when I as well run DDR4 2666, CPU-Z and other programs normally get it right.
You should do a video on what gpu can you put in a Dell vostro 3470
I just got this a week ago and its actually not bad
my first gaming pc was a Christmas gift it was a ACER GX-785-UR16 , i5-7400 , RX480 4G , 1TB hard drive , 8G of ram , Windows 10 Home ,. mouse , keyboard and 60 Hz 24 inch monitor . 700$ from Easy Rental . mine was a floor display . or it would have been 1000$ . i learned a lot from it and i still have it. i built my fist gaming pc last year . i played on my ACER for 3 years and it still works.
Nice video! So does this motherboard stop you using XMP profiles on RAM? Only allowing a specific type? Wow. That''s bad!
It doesn't read XMPs at all. It seems to only look for a specific JEDEC profile. Ut really sucks that you can't manually set any of it.
@David Does Tech Stuff you almost made me skip the video when you almost said Raid Shadow Legends, cmon man 😂
You reaffirmed my plan to build my own instead of buying a prebuilt, esp. an Acer.
Thanks!
Kudos on your choice of glasses. I really like them.
Where is your accent from? I'd say middle-eastern, someplace formerly part of the British em-payah.
With my Samsung system, deleting the bloatware was crazy difficult for they hid an app that would reactivate every time a clean install of Windows was done, automatically reinstalling the bloatware. The app, like a virus was cleverly hidden on the part of the hard drive where Windows would be reinstalled to and would be discovered by Windows on first boot, reinfecting the system. However I remembered from college, simply resizing the hard drive by just a megabyte makes the old files on the hard drive unreadable to Windows, eliminating the re-installation. Of course replacing the HD with an SSD always works, as long as one isn't stupid enough to download drivers from Samsung and therefore reinfecting your system! Great video.
They have restore partitions that automatically do that, you need to complete wipe all partitions not just the windows partition
@@theforerunnerreclaimer Thanks, I did wipe everything!
So what kind of ram must I buy at best buy to put it in and work
I mean on the spec sheet for the RAM it does state that the base frequency as 2133
Exactly. For OEM systems like this you need to shop the base frequency. They almost will never run at the advertised speeds.
Have you tried using Wise Program Uninstaller?
We are near to 100k!!!
Interesting to see how the dual channel tightens up the 1% and 0.1% lows
I have that same pc with only 8gb of ram, do you think it’s worth buying another 8gb ram with the same mhz and adding it to my pc so i can have dual instead pf single
The Acer nitro 50 is bad temps but if you put msi after burner on max for gpu it stays normal and the Acer fan cpu they give u you can put that at 100 percent and to upgrade ram is a bit complicated you have to download cpu-z and you have check the exact ram and buy that same one and it will auto put speed at 2666mhz.
What do you think about upgrading a aspire axc600 es2a worth it or not bother?
really interested in knowing the brand that manufactures the 1650 from this pre-built? Does anybody know?
Did you confirm the memory was running in dual channel, just asking cause I've come across OEM motherboards that don't have that.
Oh yeah Ive had the same problem with RAM in a prebuilt, i genuinely gave up after trying 2 different sticks of 4gb, i really didnt get why there was only some specific ram that worked
I had an MSI nightblade not too long ago and damn that was impossible to upgrade.
Can u show how to put a hdd in this exakt pc
What IS best 2x4 go ram OR 1x16
Can i change cpu cooler without removing mobo ? I want change for arctic Alpine 12
I have a HP Pavilion "Gaming" 690 and can sympathize, the mobo is glued in to the case, the PSU uses a proprietary connector, and the BIOS is locked. I'm just gonna build new. But I did manage to get a 16GB RAM stick and 500GB M.2 SSD in it to limp it along. The upshot is I have 2 free storage drives and a OS license that I can transfer to the new system so, more money for a GPU!
Instead of trying to get the two 4-gig sticks to run at 2666, did you try underclocking the one 8-gig stick at 2133 to give a fair benchmark comparison?
Hey I got the exact same pc this summer and its so loud do you know how to make it quiter plz answer me ;)
So i bought a prebuilt pc from best buy bc it was on sale. So it has a i5 10400f and 12gb of ram and most basic things but no graphics card. i was thinking of putting a fan and a gtx 1660 super. Should i buy a new case and motherboard and graphics card or should i just keep the current case as long as i have no thermal issues? I would really appreciate any answers as i am fairly new to the pc market
Hi, i have same pc and i wante to replace ram. Is there chance that it would break my 2 new hyper x 8gb sticks of ram?
ive been confused lately because i cant find any videos on my nitro 50, my one has 2x8gb of ram and comes with ssd and im just so confused
can i upgrade the gpu on this system? i have it and i want to get a 1660 super, or a 2060
A whole minute, damn. On my moms old pavillion, that would be amazing. On my computer, if it takes more than 6 seconds, it's been too long.
i got a linus ad on this video lol
hey about a month ago i bought a nitro n50-610 to replace my nitro 5 laptop with nearly the exact same specs(aside from upping the cpu to an i5-10400f, the ram from 8 to 12, it still has an 1TB HDD, and a 1650) but i want to know if i can upgrade the ram, cpu or gpu if im willing to go the extra mile and unscrew and rescrew some of the more tedious elements?
Does anyone know if the cpu is upgradeable on the nitro n50-620.

I have this pc and I am thinking of upgrading the ram to 2 16gb sticks from Corsair that are 2666 Mhz I'm just wondering if it will be compatible and any other upgrade suggestions other than a sad would be appreciated thanks

Do a NZXT prebuilt
I've got a prebuilt that is similar to this but without bloatware and with an 250 gb ssd.
Edit: My only worry with it so far may be the psu because I do not know the manufacturer.
The PSU is the best part about this prebuilt in my opinion. FSP is good. 👍
Pre-builts in my experience tend to have good quality psus
Don’t worry about the PSU. While these prebuilt manufacturers try to cut corners in every way they can, the system are still made to last. They don’t put cheap dodgy chinese ones in them.
@@DawidDoesTechStuff my Lenovo is equipped with an FSP, but it only has 14 pin and 4 pin connectors. Thank God for Lenovo.
It's a 280 watt unit, so there's no question in my mind that I need a new one if I want to upgrade to a new GPU.
18sec? it take like 1-3 sec to boot into windows for me, unless I activate slow a** boot in bios
your fresh install of windows comes with the epic launcher???
So what ram to I buy for it
When you press on a video and suddenly realise its the video you wanted to watch. My brain does work sometimes
the sff dell 990 is a good option no problems with ram
If I just add the same EXACT stick as the factory stick to double my original 8gb, will I have all this trouble geting it to run at 2666? If i get the one with 19cl?
what about de video card, can i change it?
Hey so I have a prebuilt PC which has an OEM version of Windows installed. Can I replace OR remove this version for the full-fat Windows 10 pro version? I don’t wanna buy this pro thing just to realize that the Windows 10 in my pc can’t be changed because the pc came from a pc manufacturer.
so if i were to purchase a single 16 GB of ram with ddr4 and cl19 certification would that work in this pc ? or should i just add a single 8gb stick instead?
Do you know any cheap but good SSDs?
you should do an updated version with the newer model, the one with the 3060 and intel i5
isn't 2133 the typical fallback for DDR4 if you don't enable an XMP profile?
How i can switch colour in this Pc?
How do you remove the PSU and replace it with a new one? I’m doing it right now and it’s a lot more harder than it should be compared to the videos ive seen. Also, how do you access the back panel? I’ve taken the pc apart but I’m struggling a lot with getting the back of the PC to be detached so I can access it?!
