When I recorded this I mentioned that I was in the honeymoon phase with this camera. Now that it’s worn off some, here are a few things I don’t like. The 6D has a max shutter speed of 1/4000 which means that in direct sunlight the widest aperture I’m able to use is around F4, so for golden hour shots, sunset, early morning even, I’m carrying ND filters on me with this camera. Not the worst thing in the world, but worth mentioning. Second negative is that there isn’t a button for white balance and there isn’t an indicator on the top screen for white balance. When I want to change white balance I need to press the Q button and change it while looking at the back screen. It’s not the worst thing in the world, but my 5D and 40D have white balance buttons and they’re very much appreciated. The third complaint is that the 11 point auto focus requires looking at the screen or in the viewfinder to navigate the point you want. Both my 5D and 40D have 9 point auto focus systems which have an individual button or joystick click to select any one (or all), meaning you don’t have to look at the camera to know which point you have selected. The direction pad on the 6D isn’t so horrible for this, but leaving it active means I bump it by accident when I don’t want to, and leaving it inactive means I’m pressing a button to make it active when I do want to change points, costing a moment. Silly minor complaints, but I just thought I’d put them out there for anyone who thinks like I do.
More quirks as I’ve been daily carrying the 6D more often. It definitely has “the magic” maybe call it 3D pop, maybe call it color science, but it’s harder to pinpoint which situations tend to bring it out. With my 5D there are certain scenarios where I know it’s going to shoot magically but with the 6D it’s harder to pinpoint when it will do that. Maybe I don’t have enough technical grasp of what I’m seeing to navigate this, it’s more of a gut thing. But even now a few months into daily carrying this camera it surprises me as far as when it really shines vs when it just kind of makes a bland snapshot. Furthermore, I find that the metering in the camera is a little bit inconsistent and untrustworthy. Again, at least compared to my other cameras (40D, 5D classic, R6). When I’m shooting in AV using a back button for focus and the half-pressed shutter to lock exposure I find that the exposure shifts swing very drastically. Using the same metering mode and settings with my other cameras it’s a lot easier to coerce the exposure to exactly where I want it in these run and gun scenarios, but I find with the 6D I’ll pick a target to set my exposure and it’ll get way too bright or dark, then I have to go to my exposure compensation wheel to split the difference. On a positive note, I’ve recently purchased a Neewer Q4 and a Neewer Z2-C and I’ve found that the TTL on both plays nicer with the 6D than with my other cameras, just a little bit more consistent. Where this camera is landing for me is something I grab when I know the 5D can’t handle the low light but when I don’t want to baby an expensive camera.
I'm struggling to find anything I dislike about the 6D, if I had to pinpoint something it would be that the viewfinder isn't 100% but that's no big deal really. I only ever use the central focus point anyway so no issues there. I'm bonding with my newly acquired 6D and loving it.

Same here. Had the 700D and wanted to take it a step further and bought the R6 for a shit ton of money. Needless to say I had to update all my lenses. Although the camera can deliver nice results, I do not connect as much as to a DSLR. Bought the 5D and there it was again. Because of the low light limitations I ordered a 6D. I am very excited.
To hear someone talk about my 6d so many years later is music to my ears. I’m not a professional photographer but have an EF85 1.8 stuck to it for every occasion and it’s makes me look like a pro every time with people at events couples with Canon Connect it’s still worth taking with me even with all these cell phone cameras around. I just picked up a 5D mark iii for way cheap because it had a broken joystick, and I was able to replace the joystick myself with a $9 part from Amazon- next video is on that camera 😂 I hoped the colors would be as special as the 5D classic or at least the 6D, but everything feels too cool and too magenta, so I spent a few night using Canon’s “picture style editor” taking side by side shots with the 5D classic and the 5Diii then tuning a custom picture profile for the 5Diii that looks VERY close to the 5D classic’s portrait profile. I’m still in the process of testing and tweaking, but once the profile is to my liking I’m going to make a video about the 5Diii, and give away the picture profile to make it look more like a 5D classic 🤓

In order to save some money, I'm going to go ahead and throw away my computer and anything else that has access to CZcams! :-) On a serious note, I'm stoked that there is such value for money in these older full frame bodies. I can't believe how good the colors and the characteristics are from the shots I'm getting. It makes me want to get out more. Hopefully, I'll have my 6D ready to fire on my next photo walk. A great synopsis why SLR style cameras will never go completely out of style. Sometimes the optical viewfinder and ergonomics of that body allow you to connect differently with your subjects, versus looking through a computerized LCD screen.
Great ode to a great camera. I've had a Renaissance with my 6D recently with a Zeiss planar 50 1.4 and a precision focus screen.. Will never get rid of mine. I also shoot a GFX50r and XT3 but they are totally different beasts. The 6d still holds its own
Oh would you please advice me around mirrorless as you are shooting the Fuji? Is it worth it? Is the EVF good enough? Does it bother you that you are viewing the actual exposure in the viewfinder? I bought a Sony A7II, and as I am used to underexpose slightly for the best dynamic range performance I really struggle gauging my composition and most of all sharpness with manual lenses (the focus peaking is virtually useless as it is contrast detect only - the same as with Fuji?) I just got really turned off and now I wonder if I can be bothered to shoot - but most importantly of all, really enjoy shooting - mirrorless if that experience is ubiquitous. Also does the blackout between shots bother you? I've been looking at the Fuji for the shorter depth of view, especially with vintage Pentax K lenses. But for the money I feel as if getting an R6II would be more justified, and if so, I may as well go for a used R6 for half the price (which, both of them, Image quality-wise, are virtually the same as a 6d - but without the assured accurate AF). So here we are, back to basics. I own a 6d already. What to do? Is the AF alone worth a 1000 bucks?
Love my 6D. Got it in mint condition for just over $200. I have a 5D and an RP. Enjoy using them all but the 6D really hits the sweetspot between enjoyment and great files. I couldn’t believe how well the files handle in Lightroom. The colours from it a fantastic; classic Canon colour science.
I used to work for a studio, as a portraitphotographer, for many years. And as a photo teacher for about 7-ish. I used the 5D MK2 at work actually. Privatly I used my 6D. I have always liked cameras that are the "first" of something. I feel like the manufacturers are putting more money and effort in those than the follow ups. And I don't have a lot of money. :) So now I still have my 5D2, a 70D and an original EOS-M. AND I have my 6D!! I LOVE the 6D. The only body I have bougth new. For my kind of photography it's perfect! I broke my LCD, but I'm going to spend the money to change it. It's totally worth it! :)
I've had mine since January 2015. It's been to six countries. Low light performance/high ISO is exemplary. Focus isn't fast, but it is very accurate. It's more rugged than people give it credit for. Mine has been covered in water and dirt dozens of times. It's easy to use-I agree totally with you when you say you like a tactile experience, and not want to have to look down at the camera to make every function work. The images it makes are excellent. The WIFI function for camera control and file transfer is great. Adore my Canon 6D. I don't know if I'll ever get rid of it. Great video
Agree Andrew with your views on the 6D. I also have both the 5D Classic and 6D and I am only interested in stills photography for which they are both great and have that magic colour science. And they can be had for a bargain while people sell them for newer mirrorless ones.
I've been shooting a 40d that a patron bought for me in 2008, the second shutter is at some over 90,000 actuations. For a semi pro stills camera they are hard to beat, about unbeatable at the price they are now.
I just wanted to say I enjoyed this video. While I can't relate on your affinity or experience for DSLRs, I liked the way you explained how you felt and why. And this may not mean much to you, but take it as a compliment when I say, I don't even feel compelled to watch at 2X speed, which I do probably 90% of YT videos.
It amuses me when people describe the 6D as an "entry level" full frame camera 🙄😂 or worse a "beginners" camera. Entry level? I was using full frame cameras before digital was invented! 35mm film, medium format film, even a 5x4inch view camera!
I just got a 6D, under 4k on the shutter, it's as good as new in my eyes. I'm loving it already, got some prime's that will go with it, but i like a wide zoom so got the 17-40 too... I'm loving it already!! Love the fact it's light for a DSLR and being a long time Canon user (at least 30 years) it's intuitive and easy for me to use. Can't wait to use it properly out on the streets. I mostly do street photography. I'll keep my old 7D because I've got some fab lenses for it and it's a quality image making tool...but i suspect I'll be using the 6D more.
I’m using a Canon RP I moved up from a 40D which is the crop sensor version of the 5D. I’m in love with the RP. I love my 40D but the RP is a great traveling companion
I have owned 6D's for several years but I have upgraded several times - and then gone back to the 6D. I use them mainly for events, often in low light. Two bodies with two lens (occaisionally three bodies with three lenses - I like prime lenses so need multiple bodies). The simple controls when you are operating in the dark are great. And having identical bodies when keeping up with moving subjects (event, concert or dance but not sports) is very important. And the central focus point always works! Need image review? Just glance at the lcd. Use the magnify button to take a closer look. IQ? COLOR? ISO 12,800? No problem!
Yep. I've had my 6D for several years and used it for a wide range of subjects and lighting conditions. Every now and then I get the idea of cutting back gear and going smaller. But, I can't bring myself to get rid of the 6D as it is just too good. I eventually picked up a Canon 80D which fills in some gaps. It's actually a pretty good video camera as long as you are good with 1080p. I've been really thinking more on selling my 2.8 zooms and taking some steps backward for carrying around. Nah. I think I can do just fine tossing the 40mm f2.8 STM on the 6D for a walk-around camera.
I’m in the market for another DSLR (partly because they aren’t making anymore) and just lately I have heard nothing but good about the 6D, I am sold on it and will get one. I was thinking about the 7Dmk2 but a lot of the features, “upgrades” on it are irrelevant to me and my photography. I have always used APS-C, apart from 35mm film and my Lumix LX100, (I often joke that I always shoot full frame, as I don’t crop my images, I love the discipline of getting it right when framing and I want to use everything the sensor has to offer) 20mp on a full frame sensor sounds like low light heaven to me, I only ever use the centre focus point anyway. My first DSLR was a 6.3mp Canon 10D and the A3 prints from it were beautiful! Then a 30D, I used a 40D for years, then a 7D. I will keep my 7D and still use it because it’s a quality image making tool. All things considered it makes perfect sense for me to get the 6D as another body. I try not to get too bogged down in technical stuff, I know how to get the best from a camera, everything else is art, but I appreciate and enjoy channels like you who tell it like it is. One of the many reasons that I’m not interested in the new Canon mirrorless jobs is that a DSLR is simple in comparison, I don’t want to go through 600 menus when I can just get the settings I want with a click and a turn! And why would I want to pay a lot more money for a mirrorless system when it’s not going to benefit me in any way, shape or form? I prefer the look feel and handling of a DSLR. Someone could go out and buy the most expensive, latest, camera it’s possible to buy, it wont/cant give you great images…only the person behind the camera can do that!
Yes, yes and agreed.... Terrific camera... well the mark ii anyways. // Still looking for that nightvision firmware update and the infrared one as well. They should be native to most pro-sumer and higher level cameras.
6d is a classic masterpiece. Im exactly at the same situation. Had the 6d 3 times already, now getting it again. Tried Sony a7, a7ii, a7c latelly with a few nice lenses. They feel soul less. They have technology bugs that you spend more time reading about them than actually using it to take photos
friiiiiiiiick. I really want to buy the R6. I can get one for 1200 bucks used right now, but I already own the 6d (two actually) that is 1/4th of the price and virtually the same quality. I have a 200mm lens that needs to be shipped off to be focus corrected - but it works fine in live view - so I thought I'd just buy a mirrorless instead. But it is reaaaally hard to justify the price for it. For that type of money as the IQ (if focused correctly) is virtually the same, I might as well just go fujifilm medium format for that type of money (2000 bucks).
Unhinged indeed 😂 Half of them weren’t even considered for their actual potential as a real camera because I wasn’t looking for another camera when I bought them, I just got them as a stopgap for a video project and then sold them when the project was over. I guess technically the other half I owned were only OWNED by me for a few days at a time between purchasing them on eBay and selling them to my salon owner. So technically I’ve owned ten, but realistically I’ve owned and hung on to one
Good cameras don't become bad cameras just because they got old. Most of the great digital images were shot on "old" cameras like the 5D1, 5D2 ...etc. You can buy a used 6D or 5D2 for around $300. Yes Phone Cameras are amazing ..... but they cost 5x the price of a used 6D.
The 5D "magic colors" are not real, it's pure hype. It used to be that back in 2005 when the 5D arrived, it only competed with APS-C sensor cameras, so by virtue of using the whole image circle of a lens it naturally had better contrast and color than those. But not against a FF camera like the 6D. What nobody mentions is the strong vignetting of the 5D compared to newer FF cameras, which may also be part of the reason some see it more film-like. That being said, I've been shooting with the 6D for 10+ years and a year ago I've got an R6 and I find the color purity (sensitivity) is even better on the R6 than on the 6D.
the colours are more punchy on the classic, as well as the 6d compared to R6 which is a little more subdued in the yellow, reds and greens especially (not that you can't fix it in post). I don't think there's such a thing as a stronger vignette on the older 5d (not that I've seen on mine compared to the 6d at least, or on online tests I've read). Someone mentioned darker corners or along the picture might be a shutter starting to fail.
Hey Andrew, interesting video. I love shooting the 5d classic myself and loved your first review. My mirror has fallen out of my early serial number model and I have glued it back in and seems to be staying so far. I am curious if you noticed the 5d results being sharper than the 6d zoomed in? some have said the 5D has a very minimal AA filter on the sensor allowing really sharp images and the 6D has been noted by some in comparison to not be as sharp despite having a higher MP count. I am debating whether I want to try a 6D or just get a second 5D backup body. Thanks!
I’d say that the 5D, when fed a perfect scenario (just the right lighting conditions, etc) does have a more “crispy” kind of sharpness to it than the 6D (the one in-focus eye on the black haired woman in my 5D video while I was talking about screen resolution is a good example of what I mean, it’s almost a crunchy looking kind of VERY sharp where it is in focus). I have noticed a general sort of gelatinous glazed topcoat (totally obscure description for it but it’s hard to explain) sort of washed over the entirety of the 6D image, a certain kind of gooey softness that I know isn’t motion blur (as it occurs even at very fast shutter speeds) and isn’t a waxy effect of noise reduction (as I’ve seen it happen at low ISOs) but it could also be imperfect focus or an issue with direct light into the lens… Since I’ve switched to the 6D I also switched to using an EF 85mm F1.2L (where I’ve used many lenses with 5D) almost all the time and so the perceived softness compared to the 5D might only be due to the lens. My bigger gripe with the camera so far is a tendency to shift toward magenta as well as wildly inconsistent metering compared to the 5D. Like with the 6D I’ll drop the exp comp to -2/3 and it’s not quite dark enough, then I’ll drop to -1 and it’s way too dark. Might even be a defective camera, but I’ll need to use it longer to know.
6d is tack sharp. Don't worry about it. They both have a very "thin"/basic AA filter, so they are both prone to moire (the 6d a bit more due to the higher MP count). Shooting in Live-view really shows the sharpness the sensor is capable of. I am super-picky with sharpness as I have fast glass and unfortunately find both the 5d classic and 6d to be subpar when matched with faster glass. Ironically they seem to be more accurate with the more standard primes 28/2.8, 35/1.8 and 50/1.8 in my eyes (unless you use live view). I've been looking into getting an R6, but not sure if mainly a better AF is enough to justify spending a 1000 bucks more. The image quality seem to be virtually the same as the 6d. Short answer: If you are happy with the 5d you will be overjoyed with the 6d.
@@sadeqsegaraga8766 camera was set to auto ISO that night, but after reviewing the images I found between 6400 and 12,800 was used in the majority of the evening.
The 6D Mk 1 is my main camera so I found this video fascinating, thanks Andrew. I agree with your views with the 6D for stills photography: that sensor produces beautiful images which seem more pleasing to me than those from nearly any other camera! Please may I ask what JPEG Picture Style and PS settings you used for those great SOOC JPEG portraits? I like to use C1 shooting JPEG for street and casual portraits and C2 shooting RAW for more "artsy" stuff, but since I am slightly colour blind I sometimes wonder whether the Standard style with + 1 colour saturation is a bit too strong. Thanks for the feedback! I tend to bounce between standard, portrait, neutral, faithful, and monochrome depending on the scene or how I feel about what the camera is giving me from the scene. Both the picture style and white balance become a much more active part of the process while shooting JPEG, I kind of slap them both around a lot while shooting- often times I change these things more than any other setting. One thing I love about the 40D is that it has a dedicated button for picture style, while on my 5D and 6D I have the set button programmed to recall this setting (on my R6 I use the record button for picture style). Another reason I love the 5D and 40D is the white balance button being located on top of the camera. One of my only big complaints about the 6D is that I need to go into a menu to change white balance- it’s the only thing I use the screen for while shooting, and it takes too many button presses to get the job done. My second complaint about the 6D is 1/4000 max shutter speed, which isn’t the worst thing in the world but it has lead to me carrying nd filters at all times. The last and final complaint is that the 6D requires an eye to select specific focus points, while my 5D and 40D both have single touch commands to select any point- with the 6D I wish tapping right on the pad repeatedly meant that you’d have the right point selected, but because it repeats and goes back to the left point and cycles back through the points it means that any time I want to select a specific focus point I need my eyes on the camera. Not a fan of that.

I don't have a problem with using the Q menu button, in fact I might just use it all the time for adjustments, just as easy as using the top LCD.

I bought a Sony A7II, and as I am used to underexpose slightly for the best dynamic range performance I really struggle gauging my composition and most of all sharpness with manual lenses (the focus peaking is virtually useless as it is contrast detect only - the same as with Fuji?) I just got really turned off and now I wonder if I can be bothered to shoot - but most importantly of all, really enjoy shooting - mirrorless if that experience is ubiquitous. Also does the blackout between shots bother you? I've been looking at the Fuji for the shorter depth of view, especially with vintage Pentax K lenses. But for the money I feel as if getting an R6II would be more justified, and if so, I may as well go for a used R6 for half the price (which, both of them, Image quality-wise, are virtually the same as a 6d - but without the assured accurate AF). So here we are, back to basics. I own a 6d already. What to do? Is the AF alone worth a 1000 bucks?
Love my 6D. Got it in mint condition for just over $200. I have a 5D and an RP. Enjoy using them all but the 6D really hits the sweetspot between enjoyment and great files. I couldn’t believe how well the files handle in Lightroom. The colours from it a fantastic; classic Canon colour science.
I used to work for a studio, as a portraitphotographer, for many years. And as a photo teacher for about 7-ish. I used the 5D MK2 at work actually. Privatly I used my 6D. I have always liked cameras that are the "first" of something. I feel like the manufacturers are putting more money and effort in those than the follow ups. And I don't have a lot of money. :) So now I still have my 5D2, a 70D and an original EOS-M. AND I have my 6D!! I LOVE the 6D. The only body I have bougth new. For my kind of photography it's perfect! I broke my LCD, but I'm going to spend the money to change it. It's totally worth it! :)

Low light performance/high ISO is exemplary.
Focus isn't fast, but it is very accurate.
It's more rugged than people give it credit for. Mine has been covered in water and dirt dozens of times.
It's easy to use-I agree totally with you when you say you like a tactile experience, and not want to have to look down at the camera to make every function work.
The images it makes are excellent.
The WIFI function for camera control and file transfer is great.
Adore my Canon 6D. I don't know if I'll ever get rid of it.

Agree Andrew with your views on the 6D. I also have both the 5D Classic and 6D and I am only interested in stills photography for which they are both great and have that magic colour science. And they can be had for a bargain while people sell them for newer mirrorless ones.
I've been shooting a 40d that a patron bought for me in 2008, the second shutter is at some over 90,000 actuations. For a semi pro stills camera they are hard to beat, about unbeatable at the price they are now.

I just wanted to say I enjoyed this video. While I can't relate on your affinity or experience for DSLRs, I liked the way you explained how you felt and why.
And this may not mean much to you, but take it as a compliment when I say, I don't even feel compelled to watch at 2X speed, which I do probably 90% of YT videos.
It amuses me when people describe the 6D as an "entry level" full frame camera 🙄😂 or worse a "beginners" camera. Entry level? I was using full frame cameras before digital was invented! 35mm film, medium format film, even a 5x4inch view camera!
I just got a 6D, under 4k on the shutter, it's as good as new in my eyes. I'm loving it already, got some prime's that will go with it, but i like a wide zoom so got the 17-40 too... I'm loving it already!! Love the fact it's light for a DSLR and being a long time Canon user (at least 30 years) it's intuitive and easy for me to use. Can't wait to use it properly out on the streets. I mostly do street photography. I'll keep my old 7D because I've got some fab lenses for it and it's a quality image making tool...but i suspect I'll be using the 6D more.

I’m using a Canon RP I moved up from a 40D which is the crop sensor version of the 5D. I’m in love with the RP. I love my 40D but the RP is a great traveling companion
I have owned 6D's for several years but I have upgraded several times - and then gone back to the 6D. I use them mainly for events, often in low light. Two bodies with two lens (occaisionally three bodies with three lenses - I like prime lenses so need multiple bodies). The simple controls when you are operating in the dark are great. And having identical bodies when keeping up with moving subjects (event, concert or dance but not sports) is very important. And the central focus point always works! Need image review? Just glance at the lcd. Use the magnify button to take a closer look. IQ? COLOR? ISO 12,800? No problem!

Yep. I've had my 6D for several years and used it for a wide range of subjects and lighting conditions. Every now and then I get the idea of cutting back gear and going smaller. But, I can't bring myself to get rid of the 6D as it is just too good. I eventually picked up a Canon 80D which fills in some gaps. It's actually a pretty good video camera as long as you are good with 1080p. I've been really thinking more on selling my 2.8 zooms and taking some steps backward for carrying around. Nah. I think I can do just fine tossing the 40mm f2.8 STM on the 6D for a walk-around camera.
I’m in the market for another DSLR (partly because they aren’t making anymore) and just lately I have heard nothing but good about the 6D, I am sold on it and will get one. I was thinking about the 7Dmk2 but a lot of the features, “upgrades” on it are irrelevant to me and my photography. I have always used APS-C, apart from 35mm film and my Lumix LX100, (I often joke that I always shoot full frame, as I don’t crop my images, I love the discipline of getting it right when framing and I want to use everything the sensor has to offer) 20mp on a full frame sensor sounds like low light heaven to me, I only ever use the centre focus point anyway. My first DSLR was a 6.3mp Canon 10D and the A3 prints from it were beautiful! Then a 30D, I used a 40D for years, then a 7D. I will keep my 7D and still use it because it’s a quality image making tool. All things considered it makes perfect sense for me to get the 6D as another body. I try not to get too bogged down in technical stuff, I know how to get the best from a camera, everything else is art, but I appreciate and enjoy channels like you who tell it like it is. One of the many reasons that I’m not interested in the new Canon mirrorless jobs is that a DSLR is simple in comparison, I don’t want to go through 600 menus when I can just get the settings I want with a click and a turn! And why would I want to pay a lot more money for a mirrorless system when it’s not going to benefit me in any way, shape or form? I prefer the look feel and handling of a DSLR. Someone could go out and buy the most expensive, latest, camera it’s possible to buy, it wont/cant give you great images…only the person behind the camera can do that!

Tried Sony a7, a7ii, a7c latelly with a few nice lenses. They feel soul less. They have technology bugs that you spend more time reading about them than actually using it to take photos

friiiiiiiiick. I really want to buy the R6. I can get one for 1200 bucks used right now, but I already own the 6d (two actually) that is 1/4th of the price and virtually the same quality. I have a 200mm lens that needs to be shipped off to be focus corrected - but it works fine in live view - so I thought I'd just buy a mirrorless instead. But it is reaaaally hard to justify the price for it. For that type of money as the IQ (if focused correctly) is virtually the same, I might as well just go fujifilm medium format for that type of money (2000 bucks).

Unhinged indeed 😂 Half of them weren’t even considered for their actual potential as a real camera because I wasn’t looking for another camera when I bought them, I just got them as a stopgap for a video project and then sold them when the project was over. I guess technically the other half I owned were only OWNED by me for a few days at a time between purchasing them on eBay and selling them to my salon owner. So technically I’ve owned ten, but realistically I’ve owned and hung on to one

Good cameras don't become bad cameras just because they got old. Most of the great digital images were shot on "old" cameras like the 5D1, 5D2 ...etc.
You can buy a used 6D or 5D2 for around $300. Yes Phone Cameras are amazing ..... but they cost 5x the price of a used 6D.
The 5D "magic colors" are not real, it's pure hype. It used to be that back in 2005 when the 5D arrived, it only competed with APS-C sensor cameras, so by virtue of using the whole image circle of a lens it naturally had better contrast and color than those. But not against a FF camera like the 6D. What nobody mentions is the strong vignetting of the 5D compared to newer FF cameras, which may also be part of the reason some see it more film-like.
That being said, I've been shooting with the 6D for 10+ years and a year ago I've got an R6 and I find the color purity (sensitivity) is even better on the R6 than on the 6D.
the colours are more punchy on the classic, as well as the 6d compared to R6 which is a little more subdued in the yellow, reds and greens especially (not that you can't fix it in post). I don't think there's such a thing as a stronger vignette on the older 5d (not that I've seen on mine compared to the 6d at least, or on online tests I've read). Someone mentioned darker corners or along the picture might be a shutter starting to fail.

Hey Andrew, interesting video. I love shooting the 5d classic myself and loved your first review. My mirror has fallen out of my early serial number model and I have glued it back in and seems to be staying so far. I am curious if you noticed the 5d results being sharper than the 6d zoomed in? some have said the 5D has a very minimal AA filter on the sensor allowing really sharp images and the 6D has been noted by some in comparison to not be as sharp despite having a higher MP count. I am debating whether I want to try a 6D or just get a second 5D backup body. Thanks!
I’d say that the 5D, when fed a perfect scenario (just the right lighting conditions, etc) does have a more “crispy” kind of sharpness to it than the 6D (the one in-focus eye on the black haired woman in my 5D video while I was talking about screen resolution is a good example of what I mean, it’s almost a crunchy looking kind of VERY sharp where it is in focus). I have noticed a general sort of gelatinous glazed topcoat (totally obscure description for it but it’s hard to explain) sort of washed over the entirety of the 6D image, a certain kind of gooey softness that I know isn’t motion blur (as it occurs even at very fast shutter speeds) and isn’t a waxy effect of noise reduction (as I’ve seen it happen at low ISOs) but it could also be imperfect focus or an issue with direct light into the lens… Since I’ve switched to the 6D I also switched to using an EF 85mm F1.2L (where I’ve used many lenses with 5D) almost all the time and so the perceived softness compared to the 5D might only be due to the lens. My bigger gripe with the camera so far is a tendency to shift toward magenta as well as wildly inconsistent metering compared to the 5D. Like with the 6D I’ll drop the exp comp to -2/3 and it’s not quite dark enough, then I’ll drop to -1 and it’s way too dark. Might even be a defective camera, but I’ll need to use it longer to know.
6d is tack sharp. Don't worry about it. They both have a very "thin"/basic AA filter, so they are both prone to moire (the 6d a bit more due to the higher MP count). Shooting in Live-view really shows the sharpness the sensor is capable of. I am super-picky with sharpness as I have fast glass and unfortunately find both the 5d classic and 6d to be subpar when matched with faster glass. Ironically they seem to be more accurate with the more standard primes 28/2.8, 35/1.8 and 50/1.8 in my eyes (unless you use live view). I've been looking into getting an R6, but not sure if mainly a better AF is enough to justify spending a 1000 bucks more. The image quality seem to be virtually the same as the 6d.
Short answer: If you are happy with the 5d you will be overjoyed with the 6d.

@@sadeqsegaraga8766 camera was set to auto ISO that night, but after reviewing the images I found between 6400 and 12,800 was used in the majority of the evening.

I agree with your views with the 6D for stills photography: that sensor produces beautiful images which seem more pleasing to me than those from nearly any other camera!
Please may I ask what JPEG Picture Style and PS settings you used for those great SOOC JPEG portraits? I like to use C1 shooting JPEG for street and casual portraits and C2 shooting RAW for more "artsy" stuff, but since I am slightly colour blind I sometimes wonder whether the Standard style with + 1 colour saturation is a bit too strong.

Thanks for the feedback! I tend to bounce between standard, portrait, neutral, faithful, and monochrome depending on the scene or how I feel about what the camera is giving me from the scene. Both the picture style and white balance become a much more active part of the process while shooting JPEG, I kind of slap them both around a lot while shooting- often times I change these things more than any other setting. One thing I love about the 40D is that it has a dedicated button for picture style, while on my 5D and 6D I have the set button programmed to recall this setting (on my R6 I use the record button for picture style). Another reason I love the 5D and 40D is the white balance button being located on top of the camera. One of my only big complaints about the 6D is that I need to go into a menu to change white balance- it’s the only thing I use the screen for while shooting, and it takes too many button presses to get the job done. My second complaint about the 6D is 1/4000 max shutter speed, which isn’t the worst thing in the world but it has lead to me carrying nd filters at all times. The last and final complaint is that the 6D requires an eye to select specific focus points, while my 5D and 40D both have single touch commands to select any point- with the 6D I wish tapping right on the pad repeatedly meant that you’d have the right point selected, but because it repeats and goes back to the left point and cycles back through the points it means that any time I want to select a specific focus point I need my eyes on the camera. Not a fan of that.
