Even if it wasn't a professional event, you would still not want to see someone being taken out of the lead deliberately. If it's frowned upon in online races, then it's undoubtedly frowned upon in more professional events.
The "why' is easy right? Norris was completely embarrassing the Indycar drivers for the second time by winning the first race and being on course to win the second race as a NON-Indycar driver.

RIP. Completely idiotic especially when Lando did nothing much wrong. It's why the FIA have stewards and don't tell the drivers to impose penalties on each other.

Very well said. The "it's only a game" argument really annoys me too. It's only a game when you play with your mates messing around. When you're competing in a properly organised event against other competitive people and being viewed by probably 100's of thousands on the internet and TV, it is no longer just a game. The fact it was done in a virtual environment instead of real life is completely irrelevant because it still has loads of people watching it wanting to see competitive action and a worthy winner but it was completely ruined by 2 selfish idiots. It is real shame because Indycar's production of the series was really good but it's now ended being a farce.
I am a nyc high school science teacher who loves Indy and went to the 500 in 1988. It doesn't matter why Simon did it IT WAS WRONG. Analogous to a bully .Lando is a young(20 y.o.) F1 driver (finished year 1 with McLaren) who WAS INVITED to race with Indy Drivers and promptly won race 1 at COTA. Why was Lando invited (which no one has brought up . .)? Indy irace TV rating were horrible: Nascar 900,000 viewers, Indy (COTA) 100,000. Lando was then invited back to next race at Indy 500 track, and he practiced FOR DAYS (not just hours) with advisors .His 3 F1 friends (George-Alex-Charles all in their 20's also) were all having fun iracing (lawn mowers, trucks across Europe) but Lando was practicing for Indy. THAT'S WHY THIS WAS WRONG. Think of a 35+ y.o. destroying a "project" a 20 y.o. had worked on for days. Finally, Simon's boss, Roger Penske (an amazing guy: hero to all of us) doesn't tolerate behavior like this, virtual or not. This is simply right/wrong, professional/not.
