Hey man, just curious but how do you discover new artists to listen to or music in general ? I can tell by the list that you have great taste, but I personally find it difficult to search for artists , and I don't get any good recommendations either . Any advice ?
@@Dotaroo0 Thanks man , appreciated, also do you happen to use rateyourmusic by any chance ?
The one album you missed was:
Black Sabbath- Paranoid
I compiled almost all 100 albums into a gargantuan playlist. Some of the albums weren't available on Spotify, but I added the songs that I could.
1,093 songs
75 hr 26 min
Enjoy!
It appears that CZcams won't let me post Spotify links in comments? I'll try to put the link in my channels "About" section.
Thanks dude!

SO glad to see Tricot on there, they're one of my favourite bands as of recently

Thanks so much Joey, trash taste has gotten me into so many amazing artists such as Muse and Foo Fighters. Never been a music guy, but that episode got me into it.
Im not Joey but I respect you just for listening to them
Yeeesss bee converted
Muse and Foo Fighters? I genuinely can't tell if this satire or not.
@@antoniomendes7961 what do u mean?
@@kikamikami They're considered some of the most "basic" popular/mainstream elementary rock bands ever. I mean I quite like them too (mostly classics, peak fan of FF is during the color and the shape, and muse definitely origin of symmetry, but during and after simulation theory is just....ugh horrible lol) but if you're in the music community you'd kind of get laughed at if you said you "discovered" them I suppose, I'm not an elitist (I don't really care what people listen to), but the community is full of people like that so just explaining where that snarky guy who replied to you was probably coming from.
This is probably my favourite video of yours, I've been a fan for a few years now and all your content's been amazing but this video conveniently came out shortly after I decided to start listening to at least one full length album a day, and I've been adding all the albums here that I could find on spotify to my "albums to listen to" playlist. I've already listened to a few before, some I've never heard of and others I've been meaning to listen to for a while, and I have to say this video has exposed me to so much new music that I never even knew existed that I now love. Thanks for making and uploading this, cheers.
Knowing Joey. This probably like 25% of his list. 🤣🤣🤣 I’m surprised he didn’t throw any classic thrash albums on the list. BUT goddamn he out paced me with some of the those Punk albums. I’m saving them
I was waiting throughout the list for him to name the black album
@@raahimkamaal5363 I was kind of expecting master of puppets since it's one of the most classic metal albums
Yeah didn’t expect to see Minor Threat and Bad Brains in here
i'm suprised that there was no "Rust in Peace" or metallica albums such as the black album or justice for all....
God, I wanna hear Joey have a conversation with Anthony Fantano and just listen to them go at it.
I’m very surprised how big of a punk fan you are. As a huge punk rock fan myself I dig all of those albums you mentioned and you have a really kick ass music taste!! 🤘🏻
Cool! I love Joey's music related videos!
Joey, if you are into Tool and Porcupine Tree, then you gotta try Opeth. They basically pioneered Prog Death Metal and they have a bunch of Folk and 70s Prog influences sprinkled in. I'd suggest Ghost Reveries or Blackwater Park (Steven Wilson produced it!) \m/
love this music related stuff, you should definitely do more
This is my favourite video of yours, I come back to it from time to time when I feel like discovering new artists or albums! Would love to see more like this (:

I literally had to instantly watch this because Immersion and Discovery were on the thumbnail.
Makes me want to expand my music collection and give some of these a try.
So fun to watch! I cheered as some of my favorites came up, others maybe I'll check out.
A lot of good choices Joey. Lots of respect for the breadth of music diversity/history. As an old dude (54), it is nice to see the next gen picking up good habits. A couple of suggestions across eras/genres: Pantera: Cowboys from Hell, Jurassic 5 : Power in Numbers, J. S. Bach: Brandenburg Concertos, and I can't believe you didn't include Guns 'n Roses: Appetite for Destruction. Good stuff Padawan.
I totally agree on The Cure being more experimental earlier in their career, I also love the idea that you made a 100 album list to listen. A couple of years ago I listened to the top 500 best albums according to the Rolling Stone magazine and, although it was packed with shit to the brim, I learnt a lot and i mean A LOT about music. I will defenetely hear every album you recomended, over time, ofc. Anyway, great taste, great work.
How did you find the time to listen to their top 500 albums
@@Goofballhero while working, over a long period, like 6 months
What I learned from the last TT music 3x3 episode is that surprisingly not a lot of people really like music. I love hearing joey's takes on music.
What do you mean by not a lot of people really like music?
@@jipke7430 I think he means that not a lot of people are really into music and curious about it. A lot of people I know just listen repeatedly what they discovered in adolescence and never goes out comfort zone. I mean there are persons that seriously thinks listening to Linkin Park is not mainstream
I love that you tend to choose more underrated albums as your favourites, instead of going with the trends. It's actually amazing as well that someone prioritizes Animals over Dark Side.
(by the way check Highway 61 revisited and London calling. Right now. If not I will find you)
(for jazz find Moanin' right now as well)
Some amazing picks on here! This was in my recommended and I’m glad I checked it out. I can’t believe TMP made this list, that made me so happy! 🤙🏼
Knowing Joey knows his hip-hop, I thought he would have a Ye album like (My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy or The Life of Pablo), a Kdot album like (To Pimp a Butterfly or good kid, m.A.A.d city) or even a Dr. Dre album like (The Chronic or 2001). But knowing Joey he can probably make a 100 more if he likes. lol
Brooo I was literally waiting for him to mention MBDTF too.
MBTDF best album of century no cap
Yeah it's interesting that no Kendrick album, especially To Pimp a Butterfly, was mentioned but fair enough there are so many great albums.
Same
the fact that he didnt at least mention To Pimp A Butterfly is weird but he mightve never listened to it.
If you want to hear peak japanese music, I hugely recommend Boris - Flood & Feedbacker, FIshmans - Long season & 98.12.28 Otokotachi no Wakare, and Sheena Ringo's early albums esp. Kalk samen kuri no hana. Also be sure to check their other stuff too.
Ooh +1 for Sheena Ringo mention
Kalk Samen Kuri no Hana and Long Season are my two favorite albums ever made, good recs
This is true, Boris is peak
Feedbacker is one of the greatest albums of all time bro that shit is incredible.
literally just top japanese rym
Awesome! I really love your music related stuff.
Holy crap man, the second I heard Deafheaven, shoegaze and black metal I had to go listen to the entire album. Definitely an instant new favorite. I feel some weird deja vu, it's fantastic. I'm glad I found it through the channel, been a long time fan. You make great music yourself, love your taste.
My god I wish I could talk with Joey about music for as long as he allows me.
seventeen seconds is wonderful, but man the hits on disentegration is insane imo, love all the cure stuff thanks for the vid!
Disintegration is good, but those first four Cure albums are perfect from start to finish no bad tracks on them.
Dude your music taste is a chef kiss. PLEASE do more vids about music!! I think most ppl are down for that content :D
Hi Joey, I love these music streams you do. Please do more even if these probably don't get as much views!
As someone who’s a massive music nerd (and currently attending college for music/guitar) I definitely agree that everyone should listen to The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Radiohead just because of how diverse their songs are
yellowcard8100 I might also be saying that as a huge Beatles fan but I do respect what Joey’s saying, but you still can’t deny how influential they are
Another individual whose whole personality is calling popular things mid so they can tilt people
@@jj112499 Yup
I always find it funny how music snobs tend to throw shade towards the Beatles even though their favorite bands usually cite them as a huge inspiration lol.
@@yellowcard8100 never said you had to like them buddy
I was really hoping Australian Nick Cave would come on this video. Hope you keep making more music content!
Mad respect for putting Maximum the Hormone on your list. They are so epic, and i totally agree Buiikikaesu is such an amazing album the way they play with tone, can give you whiplash!
You got a favorite?
I'd have to say either Koi no Mega Lover or Kusou breaking Nou breaking Lily
Your thumbnail had all my favorite albums fr
you talking about SRS by Earl got me so hyped!!! that album is incredible and it adds to it when u also know the context of the songs and what Earl was going through while recording it. The jazz samples are goated too. Incredible!! But i must say at first it might not be for everyone
I'm listening to it but i don't understand what he means most of the time
Thoughts exactly
I'm so happy you mentioned Lingua Ignota! Honestly such a genious musician, I hope more people will listen to her music. It's transcendental, bigger than life.. Just, what a way to express your grief and rage. Caligula is my favourite album of hers, but Sinner Get Ready is beautiful as well. Some of the things that happened to her are absolutely horrifying and I really admire her strength to cope with it all.. her music is very therapeutic and inspiring to me.
100% agree!!
@@tiarwa581 he completely destroyed the pronunciation of that
Either it's Latin or Italian
Or maybe nobody cares and I'm out
I’m honestly super proud of myself that I’ve listened to maybe 20% of this list. Would love to have a debate over some of the album choices (In Utero over Nevermind, etc). Just about had a heart attack when he hovered Encore tho, there’re some baaaad songs on it.
I've been wanting this!
Joey teaching young people about awesome music. Great job my dude!
I am impressed. I didn't expect someone your age to have this much breadth in music. Especially given the hours you put into studying Japanese. I will check some of these out for sure. Suggestion > The album Gangs by "And So I Watch You From Afar". Northern Irish post rock.
Sick recommendation. They are such an underrated band
Scott Joey doesn't study Japanese he is a native speaker since childhood
I’m guessing you don’t know who Joey is. He’s half australian and half japanese, hence why he’s so into japanese music.
@@oceanacemafer No, I've been watching Joey for a while. Trash Taste and all that. It's just discovering music takes time. From my perspective he is a young man. And a busy man.
@@Scott-J I see. I’m sorry for making that assumption then. Joey knows so much about music because he’s an artist himself :)
Love the diversity, found lots of good new music here, would love to see more music stuff!
So cool to see you show love for Toe. Easily my favorite Math Rock band.
I would love to see a Japanese Artists 10x10 one day. I already have many Japanese bands on my phone, but I’d love to find some more to listen to
Great list; I'd add Electric Light Orchestra, Aphex Twin and Massive Attack to it and it'd retain the same energy with LOTS of new bangers to choose from.
I second the ELO pick, so much more to it than Mr Bluesky
As well as pet spunds
Pet sounds the beach boys
Ecco2k>Aphex Twins
actually needed this video, you read my mind! thanks!
Fabulous video, Joseph!
Sweet! I have recently started to culture myself into great albums and this video will add a bit to that list xD
Edit: the albums I have listened to are Buiikikaesu, Close to the Edge, Court of the Crimson King, To Be Kind, Toxicity
If I had to make a 3x3 on the fly it would be:
Yoshu Fukushu (MTH) ; Mint Jams (Casiopeia) ;
Congratulations (MGMT) ; The Black Parade (MCR) ;
The New Abnormal (Strokes) ; To Be Kind (Swans) ;
Fantastic Magic (TK from LTS) ; Hypnagogia (Dan Mason) ;
Carolus Rex (Sabaton)
There are probably more meaningful albums to add here, but only a few stuck on me like these. Honorable metions are Nectar (Joji is killing it xD), Shibuboshi (Shibusashirazu), Tomorrow is Nearly Yesterday and Everything is Stupid (Crywank).
Sabaton? Interesting. My 3x3 would have a Blind Guardian album for sure, most likely Imaginations from the Other Side.
I love my chemical romance! So good!!
@@randalica92 Normally Sabaton is confort music while I play some 1st person shooter with friends, but this album in particular tells a whole ass story from the upbringing of king Charles XII of Sweden, his delusion of grandeur, the soldiers pushing through side by side and the inevitable fall of the empire. Has so much passion that I feel nationalistic for a country I've never been to even xD
Oooo
Honestly I would've either picked Is This It or Room on Fire for The Strokes
Edit: I fucking love MCR dude The Black Parade is such a good fucking album
@@razinahmedkhantalha936 all these pics I have listened to in my twenties forward, so I didn't have phases and I don't have nostalgic pics at all here, so this is why "Is this it" is not in a better spot like some strokes fans, I just didn't grow up with it and The new Abnormal was the random youtube recomandation that stuck so much on me that I listened their whole discgraphy and loved it xD That isn't to say Is this it is not a tight-close second, amazing album
Yo Joey The Strokes 'Is This It' or 'Room on Fire' should make the list dawg! Love you great list
Top Tier music taste! loving the music content!
These are such good albums, i love a good chunk of them a lot, have got to check out the other albums.
im gonna say it
random access memories is better than discovery
it just oozes passion and talent. Also boasts probably the best production ive personally ever heard.
the moment you added *the lick* when you talked about Kind of Blue is hilarious
Good to see your choices. My list would be :
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
Dire Straits - eponymus
Supertramp - Crime of the Century
Neutral Milk Hotel - In the aeroplane over the sea
Sufjan Stevens - Illinois
Slint - Spiderland
Gang of Four - Entertainment!
The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper´s
Waterboys - This is the Sea
Peter Murphy - Deep
King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King
Roger Waters - Amused to death
Marillion - Misplaced Childhood
Dire Straits - Communiqué
Pink Floyd - Animals
XTC - Drums and wires

Supertramp - Crisis? What Crisis?
Eels - Beautiful Freak

Jean Michelle Jarre - Oxygene
Mike Oldfield - Amarok
Mr Bungle - California
Boards of Canada - the Campfire Headphase
Persefone - Spiritual Migration
Etherwood - Etherwood
The Prodigy - Music for the Jilted Generation
Not that i have'nt more, but it's actually difficult for me to pick favourites, since it depends on multiple factors. If Favorite means, music i come back listen to from time to time, here are 7 albums i really like.
Dude my mind is Blown I've had a memory block for over 30 years... Ministry Was the first Metal Band I ever heard
This is peak contact, thank you so much for the bomb recommendations
Going to try and listen to most of these albums, great video. Don't know if you listen to this band or not but I recommend Lamp - Gensou ランプ幻想 (2008)
finally, Sigur Ros gets some recognition. They are literally amazing
I really should listen to them, I'm not knowledgeable in music myself but recently started getting into postrock with Explosions in the Sky, This Will Destroy You being the artists I have listened to the most in terms of album count. And Sigur Ros is definitely something I'm going to listen to.
Joey mentioning band, album and song names feels so much like that ProZD skit about anime arc titles to me. You might as well have made up 5 or 10 of them and I wouldn't notice.
The Mars Volta slaps hard bro! I'd say their music is like a melody in chaos, a storm within a clear blue sky. Cassandra Gemini is a must to listen (the song is 30+ mins)
10:04 so glad Rush is on here, they are my favorite band. It's crazy it was only three guys who were such masters at their instruments, it sounded like five.
I almost screamed when Joey put Offspring's self titled down, it's their best record!
Joey, I've noticed you put a bunch of punk bands, you should try listening to this one called Leftover Crack the album Mediocre Generica. It's amazing. The lyrics. The instrumentals. Complete bangers. And if you really enjoy it then the Fuck World Trade album would be a definite must to listen too. I've kinda outgrown the whole punk scene but that band shape my life.
yo the editor deserves to be in an S-tier list cus hot damn! Love the edit love the video!!!
I love your diverse taste in music! respect for soad and tool though.
Real happy to see Sunbather on here, great postblack/blackgaze band, their Deafheaven is bonkers when compared to classic black metal sound
New Bermuda’s better thoooooo (is joke all their albums are great go listen to Deafheaven)
Omg we have very similar tastes. When 10k days came out i seen them in tour and they had MELT BANANA open for them. They then proceeded to have a jam session while the singers of each band played rock paper scissors. That was actually my very first concert too.
i agree with happy bivouac being the best pillows album, it’s the catchiest and most consistent, but my foot is a very strange album to me. all the way through i find it to be mid tier but then they hit you with sayonara universe and gazelle city, literally the two best songs they’ve ever made lol. its also amazing to see some surf bungaku kamakura rep, it’s my favorite album of all time and it makes me sad when people say it’s one of their least favorite akg albums
BRAVO JOEY !! 👏 your rank is the most complete and miscellaneous list albums I ever seen. Good taste and choices: Tool, Maximum the Hormone, Nirvana, the Pillows, Daft Punk, Gorillas, System of a Down, The Beatles, in the same list... GOSH, so good !! 😃👍
Ive always enjoyed music but since most of my tastes in high school came from songs used in AMV's Ive rarely ever listened to albums (or really many songs from the same band). It was only recently I've gotten into listening to albums front to back so I cant wait to go through all these and hopefully find some new stuff I like.
Current top 5 in no particular order except Autophobia because it was one of my first albums I listened to front to back multiple times
Autophobia by Oblio
MBDTF by Kanye
TPAB by Kendrick
Discovery by Daft Punk
American Idiot by Green Day
Bro I got some more recs for you try:
Wish You Were Here By Pink Floyd
Civilization By Kero Kero Bonito
Plastic Beach By Gorillaz
Post and Homogenic By Bjork
TA1300 By Denzel Curry
Joey listed a lot of greats, but he definitely needs to catch up on more female artists. Kate Bush and Patti Smith are both easily the most needed for his list.
Feel the same way. Also like latin artists like Molotov or even Ana Tijoux. What about rap too, or Funk and Soul... There's some missing pieces BUT for the most part it's a good list.
Oh boy, ima be listening to music nonstop for a while. Thanks Joey
I fucking love these videos man, gonna check out some of these albums
(love you for putting NIN's TDS in there btw, The Fragile is an amazing album but TDS takes the cake for me too)
The Fragile is just a bit too bloated for my taste. It took an international flight for me to completely sit through the album in one setting. Nothing compares to the tightness and compositon of TDS.
@@xiuxiu1108 same for me, The Fragile was a bit too much to chew (although it's all great stuff, I'm not actually complaining about it), and TDS felt more tightly tied up together in one very vivid and coherent story with a start, middle and end. Now I just remembered a lot of people also say PHM was NIN's best album, and even though that's a great album too, I just prefer the aggressiveness of TDS way way more
toe is fucking insane.. the book about my idle plot on a vague anxiety is a masterpiece in full
bro forgot kendrick lamar 💀💀
I'm gonna work my way through some of this list because you and I kiiiiinda intersect on music tastes. Also Worlds is one of my favourite albums it's so fucking good!!!
You seem to be more into rock and it's multiple subgenres. I'm more into hip hop and electronic but am always down (for the most part lol) to check out new genres so thanks for this. Gunna check some of these out.
Lowkey shocked to see no Kendrick Lamar here tho lol. Especially so when Flying Lotus is on this list.
Wow this is a great list, kinda surprised me there with your pick, SUNBATHER
You seem to be a big prog fan like myself, and it's criminal you didn't include any more Prog Metal albums.
I'd HIGLY recommend you checkout OPETH, they're beyond amazing, Prog Metal band with variety of sounds.
Check out their album Damnation (mellow, more fusion rock side) OR their magnum opus Blackwater Park (heavy af concept album).
IKR he mentioned Steven Wilson and Porcupine Tree, Pineapple Thief even but didn't even mention OPETH 😭
JOEY PLEASE LISTEN TO OPETH
@Mystogan Dreyarr Yes I think he doesn't listen to much of Heavy or Death Metal types of music. That's why Deafheaven's SUNBATHER surprised me
@@oblivioussushi2406 YESSS he has to listen to Opeth one of the greatest bands imo. He does seem well versed in his Prog Rock, maybe doesn't listen to much of Metal other than the mainstream ones.
Hell yahh I second the Opeth recommend, he liked Deafheaven
And especially well versed in prog rock. He'll enjoy the HELL out of OPETH
Yeah or some Emperor... Or the first Satyricon album Dark Medieval Times... That flute man.... So raw yet beautiful.
Not gonna lie I really thought Welcome To The Black Parade was gonna be on there considering a lot of the other choices, but either way DAMN what a list!!!
The Anime Man? Also the music man. What amazing recommendations. You have godlike taste
loved this thanks for new music to check out i did get to see clowns play for a bar i worked at in melbourne they do go pretty hard love to see you to a favorite list of anime soundtracks someday
My favourite Album is the ”Ebba Grön 1978-1982” which is a collection album from the incredibly short lived Swedish Punk band Ebba Grön. Ebba Grön is the most influential punk band in Sweden that brought punk to the spotlight.
for anybody interested in anything prog, i highly recommend Haken. especially their album The Mountain.
Hard vouch, would throw in Animals as Leaders myself too!
I knew it wasn't going to be on there but the maudlin of the Well double album Bath/Leaving Your Body Map is an experience and a half and I highly recommend it to people who like some jazz and heavier music mixed together. Absolutely amazing but it did take a few listens to grow on me. It is definitely a bit harsh but there is some absolutely beautiful instrumentation that mixes chamber music and doom/death metal. Absolutely recommend!
My top albums by genre:
Hip-Hop/Rap - Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the 36 Chambers
Rock - Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
Alternative - Nirvana - Bleach
Country - Johnny Cash - America IV
Death Metal - Gorepot - Asian Stoned Effect
Black Metal - Enslaved - Frost
Electronic - Magic Circuit - Self Titled
Classical - Vivaldi - Four Seasons
Heavy Metal - Freddy Kruger's Underwear - 1981
I would say Enslaved Vikinglir Veldi was my fav album of them but also my fav Black metal album period and I prefer Nirvana In Utero (although pretty general opinion) although Bleach is alot more raw
I like your similar tastes to mine :)
@@bruh......2005 It's good to see there's people out there with taste similar to mine. I like Bleach the most because, like you said, it was raw and emotional and I love that in the right genres.
Damn, Joey has sick taste in music. It's so rare to find a fellow anime/manga fan with actually good music taste. Most of them think that Linkin Park and SOAD are the pinnacle of music. Not knocking either of those groups but you need to broaden your horizons if you think those are the greatest bands of all time.
Personally, I love SOAD and Linkin Park but broooooo there is so much more music I love besides those bands (MF DOOM, Tyler, Outkast, Wu Tang, Biggie, etc)
It is important to listen to lots of different kinds of music and you can get different experiences out of it
@@sickfitz4256 both are great bands, I agree. I just don't think that they are at the most elevated of status, even in their Genre. Comparing SOAD and LP to a band like Zeppelin wouldn't make sense, different realms. But to me, the greatest band of the 2000s alt metal variety was Deftones.
But yeah that's basically what I was getting at. There's a whole world of music out there from various different times to enjoy and too many gamers and otaku are stuck in a box musically.
the fact that i knew only one of these (princess mononoke ost), says a lot about my music tastes. Though, I've always been one to focus on individual songs rather than artists or albums. It probably also says a lot about how tastes change with generations and age.
fetch is a fucking amazing album, also your takes on punk are great, also sinner get ready was my fave album last year and i was wondering if you were gonna mention Otoboke Beaver
Yesssss. I'm not the only one who prefers Twin Fantasy over Teens of Denial. And its Joey too,so double the happiness✨
If you all wanna get into CSH,I highly recommend Bodys
Man you have some legit taste in music, many of my favourites in there. And YES Animals is super underrated, it's far superior to (much more famous) The Wall. The Wall has some bangers but enormous amounts of filler, unlike Animals, in which every song is great.
^^ this

Some genuinely good picks here. I'm shocked someone other than me and my old friend Pat know about ASOB.
Most of your list I kinda agree with, a fair few I'd never heard of, But "Animals" is my favourite Pink Floyd album, with "Meddle" a close second. I'm a lot older than you.
I'm going to have to look up some of these Albums, but not the Hippity Hop.
Some Differences - "Starless and Bible Black", "Revolver" and "Aqualung".
Albums that would be missing if this was my list:
Steely Dan - basically every single one, not even joking
Ween - White Pepper and The Mollusk
Definitely OK Computer
Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory
Distillers - Coral Fang
Leftöver Crack - Fuck World Trade
NOFX - Coaster, First Ditch Effort, Wolves in Wolves Clothing
Viagra Boys - Street Worms
Kendrick Lamar (???) . good kid and TPAB
D'Angelo - Black Messiah
Slipknot - Iowa
Steely Dan is just amazing. I also wouldnt know which one to pick. And definitely agree with Kendrick Lamar. Generally my list would have included alot more Rap
defo agree with slipknot and linkin park, such banger albums
If there is an album I would recommend to you Joey, its probably Transmissions by Starset. You should atleast try listening to it once.
I’m so glad you added TMV to this list 🙏 To this day I am still obsessed with them.
Creo en la Volta
Such a good pick too. Frances the Mute goes so God damn hard
@@hanavolta9785 I always have the deloused at the comatorium album on repeat. Haha
@@neiren_ Same. imo Deloused and Bedlam in Goliath have the best songs to listen to independently, but I do prefer Frances and Amputechture as whole albums
Appreciate your views Joey! Thanks a bunch for the recommendations!
