In case you don’t make it to the end of the video, I want to announce content is slowing down. I want to make larger, bigger videos with longer run times. I’ll be leaving home to visit my family this week, so this is the last video for a week or so.
This marks a pretty significant shift in my content and I’m working toward doing more of the work that I want to make. In the mean time, feel free to join either (or both) of my discord servers to hang out with fellow fans or even play on my Minecraft server. ❤

      @Just_A_Guy_Here. Před 3 měsíci +40

Mojang removed fireflies because they were poisonus to frogs in real life, and the next thing you know is that there is an in-game feature where you can poison parrots with cookies, that can also happen in real life.
Camels can't drop anything other than xp maybe, but a polar bear can drop around two or four salmon and cod, polar bears being a ecologically vulnerable species of bear. Even if Jeb added polar bears because his wife liked them, still, still.
Why does Mojang say it would take a "long time" coding all the mobs from the mob votes in, yet they have literal prototypes of certain mobs like the old Warden in the works, alongside with some additional mobs in past and recent updates. They may be a big and slow corporation, but they have the time to do such things in a short period of time. So what's preventing them from doing so, the team, Microsoft, or something outside?
Sometimes taking slow steps is good, but when there's controversy behind, you can't catch up. The snail tries to escape a predator, the predator is faster because its prey move around, the snail is slower because the vegetation is all around.

About birch biomes, there are actually two currently in-game. The regular one and the old growth birch biome. It’s a biome of tall birch trees, and peculiarly enough, as players, we have no way of replicating such tress other than building them by hand. It gives just a tiny bit of mystique to the biome.
Also, in the earlier minecraft versions, because there were fewer tree types, there were more variants of the each biomes and biomes were tied to terrain generation. There were multiple types of forests, each with different percentages of tree types and different levels of tree density. The only remaining trace of that now is perhaps the sparse jungle, a jungle with spread out trees and bushes.

I think mangrove should be changed. Remember that concept art? Steve and alex in a boat swimming through fog, fireflies and different vines, cattails...
What I'm annoyed most of, is that mangrove swamp is a *hell,* there is no wide rivers in it, a huge amount of holes from caves & cliffs, and a lot of mobs hiding behind trees. Very hard to move through and very dangerous. Also looks bad without shaders and better fog, lack of bloom and fireflies 😔

    @fennecishere Před 4 měsíci +70

One thing I disagree about is reusing existing wood for palm trees. Palm trees IRL are actually very unique in that they're technically not even trees, they're closer related to grass than trees. Because of this, their wood is quite different from the typical tree, an example being is they don't have tree rings. I agree that Minecraft is loaded with wood varients and it really doesn't need anymore, but it would be so disappointing if Palm trees were added and it was just like every other tree with how different they are in real life.

Rather than a constant change, rare modifiers might be a fun idea
    E.g:
    • fields of pumpkin patches with a 5% chance of sometimes generating throughout plains or basic forests.
    • "Old/wild" variations to forests, with old having many more fallen logs and dead trees with those fun toadstools, or wild versions having thicker growth that maybe generates bushier trees or creeping vines. They could spawn creepers more frequently or even have wolves be aggressive at night if spawned there.
The point is that these would be rarer variations that hopefully change very little, but can make different places feel unique instead of just, "wow. This updated birch forest sure does have tall trees. I kinda miss the old type where collecting wood was easier and I didn't lag every time I use a bed from all the bees"

More fresh-water species of both fish and amphibians, plenty of more insects [RIP the Firefly], more hazards in the form of leeches and other waterborne parasites, new underwater structures that you can ONLY find in fresh water lakes, more animal mobs being attracted to the area to drink, maybe even new vegetation in the form of algae that can serve both decorative and functional purposes, and of course manatees.

Currently, with how mob votes are going, that's already happening; we got Axolatol, Armadillo, Sniffer, Allay, Goat, Mooshroom, and Frogs
All mobs that require you to hunt a specific biome to find them... and then take back home as pets.
Maybe I would be okay with it, but we need more dynamic mobs like birds or deer. Adding fish was a great step and was taken well. By far, it's my favorite update. Wouldn't it be better to have mob bundles? Why are mob votes only real life animals now, and we never get to see the other two again?
I also think mobs like the phantom should get reworked and appear as a hostile mob in the end or goats dropping hide or milk. So why are mobs just a single-use feature now, Sniffers and Armadillos only have one use and don't drop anything when killed... it's like Mojang is too afraid to make passive mob drops.
Blocks, I agree with since this whole game should encourage you to explore, and I'd be convinced to say mobs too. But we need mobs for every biome, or else it is just pointless to make mob votes for one mob at a time.

No, we don't have enough wood types. We lack cold-colored planks (and there are not enoug blue building blocks in general), we don't have white planks (no, birch isn't white and can't replace it), so more tree types must bring more wood typpes. Also with new Sakura trees being pink we are now not limited to the natural colors, so palms being, say, green - is totally posible. The overworld big mushrooms should have their own wood type (maybe white), and I agree, they should grow in more different shapes.
Overall I think we need a big tree overhaul, because old "simple" trees look too different from the newer ones, like Sakura or Azalia (btw Azalia also needs its own wood type)
Ice biome can have a new structure, something like an "Ice Castle" - not too big, but bigger then desert and jungle temple, maybe like an ocean monument.
The cave mushrooms are are great idea, but I think is should have some unique mushrooms (together with the original ones), maybe like light-blue glowing ones. And yes, they shpould give us the light-blue planks.

    I have a few proposals:
1)I would like to see a Dead Sea biome. One that is completely devoid of any water and has dead coral sprouting like trees, hostile phantom fish swimming in the air, and an ambient fog making vision difficult. If the player manages to kill one of the bigger fish, it has a chance of dropping the soul fishing rod. This item stays with you even when you die and can be used to teleport to your last death and then break. Since oceans are massive, the Dead Sea Biome would be more like a giant crater than an ocean.
    2) Jungles need better content. All there is that is unique are Coco Beans, Jungle wood, Parrots, Ocelots (which do nothing), and Jungle temples. I would like to see Jungle villages but they are in the trees. Maybe a new type of vine that lets players swing places. Monkeys and Bananas can also add more ambience and maybe a new tameable friend.
    3) Please bring back lost mob vote mobs. The Iceologer is a unique variant and can maybe drop a magic weapon or enchantment book, the Copper Golem can be used for all sorts of redstone contraptions, the Vulture and Ostrich can serve as great ambience, and just for the fun of it, Mooblooms because they are adorable.

Peat bog is obviously the ultimate Minecraft biome but they passed it up for mangroves. Check it:
    - Moss blocks can generate in patches above the water
    - Water could be colored brown, since tannins dye it like that in the real world
    - Peat could be added as a fuel source, which would synergize well with the Allay and the Conduit
    - Bog wood could be added, a black-colored, non-renewable wood that resists fire. In real life, bog wood is fire-resistant because it's like 12% mineral. It's basically wood that fell into the bog 1000s of years ago and became partially fossilized. Using bog wood in your builds would be a dramatic flex
    - will o wisps could be added as a mob
    - Peat bogs are perfect for archeology because they preserve anything that falls into them, and some of the most iconic stuff IRL gets found there
    - bog mummies can be a new mob
    - bog iron could be represented as iron ore that generates in springs of orange-colored water
    - slimes, witch huts, frogs, and sweet berries can all generate there
Etc. It's one of the most fascinating biomes IRL and has tons of cool stuff in it

I think there are also three other biomes that are usually overlooked, and now should get updated to keep up with everything else.
    1. The old swamp: Mojang added a brand-new swamp like biome (the mangrove) but completely overlooked the old one. There isn't much interesting into them: The trees are just oak with vines, the lilypads are all the same, few animals spawn there, the water just looks really dirty, etc.
    2. Deserts: Kinda the same thing you mentioned with beaches; no diversity, just sand. And with deserts is even worse, it's just sand and sand for huge distances without anything different. They could put some new tree, other types of bushes, rare oasis or a new terrain generation, maybe a new variant that looks like the Lençóis Maranhenses, that would be cool.
    3. Rivers: This one I have the most issues with: Currently, rivers are just boring water bodies that shares the same height level as the oceans.
Really, they could diversify this a little more: wider rivers, upstreams and downstreams, springs, types of fishes or fishable items that only spawn here, different height levels, different plants than seaweed, smaller streams, maybe even waterfalls? (remember that one in the Buzzy Bees trailer?)

I think in general, every biome could use more ambience. An update dedicated to adding useless little mobs, structures and other tiny additions would be nice.
Beyond general changes though, rivers and lakes are barren. The only mobs that naturally spawn in them are salmon and for some reason squids, and they’re tiny (in terms of width). For starters, they could use an overhaul in how they generate; maybe they get much wider at certain points or flow through various elevations here and there. But what they also need is some new features. They could have actual running water rather than being a stagnant stream, and flow down from the newly updated mountains all the way down to the coastal biomes. Maybe they could get some new life that grows around them too, like reeds and duckweed, maybe some dragonflies and ducks that hang about, frogs could spawn around them too and try and eat the dragonflies just for fun. Maybe there could be a new kind of tree that only spawns around rivers too, like a weeping willow tree

A thing i thought about the mushroom island is that micelium in real life "connects" plants and trees so they can share nutrients and transmit signals to other trees.
Maybe in that biome, whenever you chop down a giant mushroom, it would send a signal to other mushrooms and they could quickly grow a layer of "bark" to make them harder to break, if you keep cutting it will grow thicker and harder to break. Maybe even mooshrooms start attacking you like in Dungeons. It is really just to make that biome more fun, and maybe the bark could have a use.

Nice video, I agree whole heartedly that a focus on ambience would do wonders, I would personally love to see a revamped weather system in the game that would allow for wind direction an the like that would have leaf particals blowing on ocassion, deserts could have sand storms, etc. In addition a revamp to the atmospheric audio would be huge, imagine the ice-spikes biome with the ambient of cracking ice slowly shifting echoing around. I would love to see cave biomes with more variation, crystal caverns, fungal covered, underground jungles, and even rare underground villagers.
As for specific biome changes, I agree that we don't need more wood types without a change to the inventory system but I would me interested in seeing unique reasons for going to and setting up a base in each biome - Ice spikes could have a unique effect where ice could naturally become packed (and then blue ice) over time making it an ideal location for ice farms. Mushroom fields having more large mushroom variations is great but I would also like to see other types other than brown and red mushrooms. Birch forests desperately need birch tree variants as well as more to do in general. Beaches could also be improved (as would oceans) if the way water appeared was improved, the sounds of small waves crashing on the shore line, water slowly ebbing up and down perhaps even slighltly covering blocks near by, the waves becoming larger and louder during storms would all add to the vibe.
I recall Mojang saying they would not add seasons, but I still feel that seeing the biome change around you would be a great experience (Bedrock already has leaves turnning white when show falls on them). This leads me to three related needed updates: 1) Improve transportation so that getting to the different biomes is a good and fun experience, 2) Improve the ambience in the game both visually and audibly using the basalt delta biome as an example of audio and the cherry blossom leaves as a visual example, and 3) Improve the exploration features to the game by improving the inventory problem and make discoveries feel exciting and impactful.
    Thanks for another great video.

I would like it if they made several biomes have more dangerous overworld surface biomes , like a dark oak forest, with taller trees, and an increased skeleton and maybe witch spawn rate, like to the point where they are as dangerous as trial chambers.
Also make certain deserts larger and more inhospitable with no villages or water and sandstorms with a possible new mob.
Do a similar thing with snowy biomes.
I would think these variants traditional spawn out away from spawn creating a circle of danger where if you want to travel further you have to go through them. Maybe make it that strongholds only spawn beyond this circle, (most of the time so speed runners won't be mad)

I want them to make a moss vine (or something similar to the moss look on mossy cobblestone ) to allow variety to vines or flower peddles or the moss carpet where it can be in all directions and it allows more decorative varieties to different biomes

Something I would love to see with the mushroom villages is a lack of doors and a focus on using mushroom blocks (maybe white where you would see logs) and cobblestone or other stone variations plus instead of crop farms you find mushroom farm. Possibly also a loot table biased towards tools and mushrooms

I really like all the ideas you proposed, the mushroom cave especially.
Me personally, I'd like to see more variety between the ocean biomes

I actually came up with something for the oceans, coral mushroom biomes. Giant mushroom stems leading to coal made tops, I even designed multiple varieties like some have air pockets while others can have mushroom lights.

They've put a lot of effort into adding new tree types (we've got what, 8 now?), but I always found that they've ignored the ground! All we've got is short/tall grass in the temperate biomes, short/tall ferns in the taigas, and bushes covering the ground in jungles. They need to overhaul ground foliage. The flower update was a great one, going from 2 flower types to well over a dozen. It would be great if they could do the same with other plant types. Add naturally spawning bushes in forests, dense prairie grass for plains, and cattails for swamps. Do for the surface what they did for lush caves.

since palm trees are coming with the desert update anyway, I'd rather just have those spawn on beaches as well as spawning in oasis. I do think that potentially the baobab and palm tree will end up getting new wood types and maybe the azalea as well later on. if I had to guess on colors, I'd say the baobab will have white/light gray wood, the palm tree will have a saturated yellow-y orange, and the azalea will probably have green or light pink.

Dark Oak Forests look really cool, but they definitely took a lot of that "wow" effect from the Mushroom Islands. If you google Amanita muscaria mushrooms (red ones) or any mushroom atlases, you notice that young and old mushrooms have different shapes. Young ones have smaller rounder or cone shaped caps, while older ones have more disc and even bowl shaped caps, and the latter can collect water in them. This alone could add a lot of variety to the biome. Further more, mushrooms often grow in groups and not solitary and spaciously like it is in the game, so, allowing smaller mushrooms to spawn right next to the bigger ones would also give the biome a distinct look.

To be honest, I think people talk like every biome should be super interesting and constantly have stuff to do, but i think, for a creative game, part of it is giving a blank canvas. also for mooshroom biomes, they aren't really common enough to get boring. but for how rare they are, they could be more rewarding.

I think minecraft really needs more particle effects along with those ambient sounds. I’ve always thought that the ambience in the nether is weirdly better than the overworld with the bubbling lava sounds and the particle effects in certain biomes that I feel could be added to the overworld. Like the cherry blossom biome with the petals or the spores in the lush caves, why not pollen in flower fields and falling leaves in really any biome. Same with sounds. Definetly needs more ambient atmospheres

Funny you meantion the villages thing. I'm making a video about how Minecraft has a structure abundance issue and when I flew through 10 different worlds on 1.4.3 and 1.20 I found you're 4x more likely to find structures in the modern game. (I flew 2000 blocks in each direction from spawn) To be precise, you'll roughly find 1 structure per 776 blocks in 1.20 and 1 structure per 3076 blocks in 1.4.3.

2:08 it would be a lot cooler if browm mushroom cows looked like they had both types of mushrooms and some flowers growing on them. Not only would they look more appealing visually, but it would just feel right for the cow to give you suspicious stew

One thing I'd really love to see, even if its just an option, is a generation type that garantees more biomes. I swear I'll make a world and I'll only see jungles and birch forests for 5000 blocks out and then another world that is taigas and deserts for 5000 blocks out. Exploring in minecraft feels very tedious right now and I probably spend most of my time trying to find one biome specific item or mob and then making my way back only to do it again :/ I think every biome would benefit if it was more incorported into the average play session in general, then we can see what we really need. Just based on my experience though

i'll say this now, more wood types is never bad, its a new woodset with a different color to play with. also it fits in with a new biome as well. however i do agree with tree shapes. ironically the nether trees are somehow better designed than any others (besides the mangrove trees, thats a cool tree right there) as they vary quite a bit compared to the others.

When the mooshroom biome was added, you really needed to be apart of the game to get the most out of it, Soup pvp servers were very common, where soup would be used to instantly heal during pvp. These biomes were very sought after when they were first added

I'd love an update to the windwsept Hills or whatever its called. It felt left behind when mountains got updated. Maybe the new one could become heathland and add heather to brighten it up.
Also i respect your decision but id be so annoyed if palm trees didn't get a wood type. I love new woods, and typically wood doesn't impact inventory as much, as people only harvest a tree type at a time

I know the mangrove swamp is recent, but I’d like to see a cold variant of the swamp in the form of boglands or Muskeg. A grassy swamp biome that naturally generates moss blocks and spruce trees instead of oak.
Maybe a glacial valley biome in mountains.
Basically more variety in cooler/cold biomes.

I love the fungal caves idea! The tiny changes you made to the birch forest are so good too! I literally turn around or sprint straight through birch forests whenever I come across them, they're definitely the most boring biome.
