    Good video. Real farming rather than a lot of the rubbish on You Tube! In South Africa we say that there are three ways to go broke: gambling, women, and farming. Gambling is the fastest way, women is the most enjoyable, and farming is the most certain.

    My first time viewing and enjoyed immensely! Farming is always two steps forward and one back. My father was a farmer in Canada, he was constantly fixing things! He had a pretty impressive shop with a welder, drill-press, hoist, compressor, different saws and many other tools. Farmers are renaissance men being able to do so many things to keep everything going! My mom was the cook, gardener and balanced the books. Good luck with your land clearing.

    Alex, One of the qualities that makes Quinta Fonte da Pipa videos so watchable is that yall try to present farm life as it truly is. Which means of course means things sometimes go wrong, break, fail, wear out, etc. Muito obrigado for keeping it real!! Another good video. Alex your mechanical wisdom continues to save the day. Job well done. Randy/GA

      i still have another year or two cleaning up after the fire, the problem is the fire bans come in and then can no longer clean with machinery so often means leaving it until the following year.
      So glad you enjoy so many parts of our videos....... thanks for the kind words🙂🙏❤

    I think zippo has some kind of guarantee that you might like to hear aboot. Could you do a layered wrap around those suckers. Three layers could protect from goats. Have all sorts of wild things that eat browse so my bushes look over pruned and very branchy. Ugly maybe.

      I was amazed my zippo works perfectly, i just filled it up with fuel and it lit right up😎
      I thought about protecting each tree but with hundreds to protect it would take too much time and cost me too much to do each tree... i am working on one long fence to keep them out of the olive groves until the trees are big enough.🙂

    I got a question about your solar panels that you had installed in one of the last videos. How does that work, is that a project offered from EDP or did you buy the panels and let them do the installation?

    Good luck with the clearing ! Are there any rules regarding Agricultural Support Buildings regarding size, construction materials and licensing or taxes ?

    • @FontedaPipaPortugueseFarmLife
      @FontedaPipaPortugueseFarmLife  Před rokem +2

      Hi, yes there are laws, basically anything that waterproofs the land, a roof or a concrete slab on the ground. Your land size will determine how much you can build on your land, that includes extensions to houses.
      animals support buildings can be allowed if you are registered in farming, permission is easier for animal support building but only if you are actually farming and have a good reason, feed storage, animals shelters.
      again every land type, your farming status etc will all be different so as always go and ask at the city council.🙂

    • @paoemantega8793
      @paoemantega8793 Před rokem

      @@FontedaPipaPortugueseFarmLife Interesting how that is put, waterproofing the land.. Is there anything that will have a positive effect on the water retention of the land i.e. water butts, tanks, ponds and mines that if you improve the water holding capacity count in your favor ?

  • @Tigger4747
    @Tigger4747 Před rokem +1

    I've always wondered why people burn wood in the field rather than using it to heat the house, or save it for summer BBQs even if you don't have an open fire or wood burner. It seems such a shame to waste such a valuable resource. Good luck with it anyway.

    • @FontedaPipaPortugueseFarmLife
      @FontedaPipaPortugueseFarmLife  Před rokem +1

      Hi Tigger, it might look like a lot of wood to you but that is a tiny portion of wood we have on the farm available to burn in the house, we dont use pine much as it is not a good wood for heating and blocks up your chimney..
      We are not allowed bbq's during the summer fire bans as we live in the countryside.
      after burning these piles i plough in the ashes to help the land, so it is not a complete waste of the wood.🙂
