    Rather than Photoshop ( assuming one has the full Adobe suite) a much better tool by far for this sort of thing is InDesign. I love designing and publishing magazines and books and InDesign makes it very easy. Photoshop I would find extremely dificult to use for the same task but you did very well with it. I love Canva as well for designing graphic elements then still importing elements to InDesign. Great video. Love creative print projects!

      Sorry… I must have said the wrong thing😂 I meant Indesign. I’ve only ever used that or Canva.

    TBH, it's not a good print. The content (text) is way too close to the spine of the magazine. I like the cover done on the PS/IND, looks elegant vs the one done in Canva (even if they have different themes).

    Could you explain further when you said you had trouble with certain images over licensing? (It's around 2:07) What exactly do you mean? I'm in the process of deciding on whether to stay with Canva or go with InDesign. Are you saying that InDesign automatically stops you from using images if you don't prove you have some sort of permission? How would that work. Hopefully, I'm misunderstanding.

      @authoralaskawalters  Před rokem +1

      Hi,
      Yes so if I wanted to use someone else’s image I just needed to ask them for permission and give credit. No need to do anything in Adobe about it. Adobe dosent provide images to use to I have to go looking where as Canva provides lots of images to use free and no need to give credit. :) I hope this helps.

      @@authoralaskawalters This was very helpful. I forgot to mention I’m NOT selling my book. It’s really just for me to learn foreign languages 🤣🤣🤣 but I love magazines and putting pictures next to new words helps me remember them more. So I’m just using the images for educational purposes. Sorry I forgot to mention that.

      Oh fun! Then you can use whatever images you like if your not planning on selling it :) I’m glad this helped.

    Good job! But how do you have the text boxes or grids in canva overflow and adjust into one another. This is puzzling me and I've found no answers.

    Thank you for this. How did you ensure the Canva design would 'work' with Magcloud's specifications? How did you know where the bleeds should go, the text was in the 'safe zone', etc.? Thanks so much.

    • @authoralaskawalters
      @authoralaskawalters  Před 2 lety +3

      Hi,
      Thanks for watching! Canva has an option to put in bleed lines and marks that you should stay in. But printing it is the only true test. Though, I found that staying in those lines mace it print perfectly.

    How did you print from canva? Because on Indesign you can see the double page spreads but not on canva?

    Hi do you have tutorials with creating on canva the cover, back and spine on here ?

    • @authoralaskawalters
      @authoralaskawalters  Před 5 měsíci

      Hi,
      Canva dosent allow you to make a spine and they use the last page as the back so when you put it over to mag cloud, that’s where you add the spine :)

    • @authoralaskawalters
      @authoralaskawalters  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi!
      A few days as I was working on it when I had time but it depends on your contributors too and when they give you their articles. You can give them a deadline. It could easily be made in a day if you had all the material.

    Question: after creating in mag cloud, did you have to convert your canva pdf into cmyk color format for printing, before submitting it to magcloud for the colors to turn out right?

      Ok, so I had a look and you don’t click on download a template, you click on upload a PDF then you will be fine. Canva has the template on there already when you search ‘magazine’.
