    Fascinating. I always thought people read magazines because of the information contained, now I learn people apparently think of magazines itself as piece of art, like a visit to a modernart museum.

      maybe there are just "consumers", readers, they could be just that, without care about the work on it or behind the publication.
      other kind of readres love the nice colour of paper, the good type font in balance with the content, other people more "detailed" in their reading habits knows to identfy thw rosk behind, rejecting it or considering as it is: Graphic Art. :D

      that’s a great way to describe it! the japanese “popeye magazine” is definitely my favorite to look at every month and i don’t even speak the language! i’ll use a translator if i really want to read a section, but mostly im just enamored by the incredible collage-style page layouts and photography!

    Hello! I wanted to thank you for explaining the structure. I was alway interested in fancy design layouts, but I didn't know the design language and university didn't teach us about it. It's much more clear to my head :)

      Glad you found this video useful. I also struggled to learn editorial design lingo as it was hard to find a good source for all the terms in one place.

    Good video. One issue I should point out on the spread at 13:00 is that his face would fall right into the gutter.
    Particularly if the publication is perfect bound and not saddle stitched, his face would get lost in the fold.

    Is this baseline feature available in Photoshop? Also, what should be written in the running head?
    By the way, amazing insights here. I've prepared my notes and surely have a lot takeaways from this course!

    • @georgemartinezza
      @georgemartinezza Před 4 lety

      No matters the software. To apply the baseline, guideline, criteria and formation you can compose it even in your notebook or classroom wall. :D
      the Running Head example here, shows "the section" where you are, it depends the topic, theme or the kind of magazine _musical, house & garden, medical, religious_ sometmes the running heads have the same Article Name through all the section, sometimes it changes with the name of subtitle . 13:08 , to identify the article you are in, or the "sub-section" inside main section.
