  • The Run the Smallest V8 RC Engine in the World in at 28cc's and try to hit the maximum rpm.
    I first set up the Mini V8 engine, then I open it up to show everybody what's inside, take a look at the bearings the valves the cam.
    I then run this engine at full throttle after that I make some exhaust modifications to try to get a better more realistic sound, then I film the engine in slow motion to show everyone how the valve train works with the cams rocker arms and lifter buckets.
    About the engine: this is the new Miniature V8 Nitro Engine Toyan / Howan 28cc 2.7 Cubic inch V8 Engine sold by Engine DIY, it's a brand new product that will be released in June.

      That's not the main issue at all here...The reason for all the heat in the block is...is he let it run at absolute max throttle knocking its nuts off for a prolonged time till the fuel tank was completely empty, did not let it idle at all. The result is that the water pump is driven by the belt on the front, no engine RPM = NO coolant flow! hence the lines being hot close to the engine. completely the wrong way to look after an engine.

When putting mine together I lubricated the short block with some Q tips dipped lightly in Royal Purple that I use in my cars and trucks. This at least gives it a bit of a coating. After some thought I decided to use a five weight that I run in my turbocharged four banger performance engines. I felt anything more would result in hydrostatic failure of the lower engine internals because of the micro tolerances in theses mini monsters. As far as the Cylinder Heads, Valves and pistons Rings are concerned they should be well lubricated fine for the first three to five minutes from the grease. It will melt quickly and coat well! But anymore than four or five minutes I would probably suggest checking it once the entire engine has been given a chance to cool before taking off anything more than the Valve Covers! But if you’re anything like me, that’s just part of the fun!!!! How I’d love to stuff this engine into a die cast car with remote control steering and throttle control. That thing would SCREAM!!!! The VE will be worse for this engine over an equivalent displacement single or dual cylinder just strictly on frictional losses. It's an aesthetic engine, not an outright performer. I probably wouldn't do much to it simply because lubrication is the biggest enemy to an engine like that, especially for an overhead cam setup like that.
      The other problem is that it's a 4 stroke and an equivalent displacement 2 stroke will blow this thing away in outright power.

    FYI, there's a possibility that you'll break one of those exhaust valves if you run this engine for an extended period of time without an exhaust system especially at high RPM. That's why I recommended running zoomies to get the sound you want. Under "real world" circumstances, an exhaust system is there to provide the proper back pressure to enable scavenging of the spent exhaust gases. An exhaust system will also isolate the exhaust valves from being overexposed to O2, which will eventually oxidize them and crystallize their metal composite, making them potentially brittle. You could even put small balls into the ends of the zoomies to prevent water condensation from entering them during or after cool down.

      Thanks! Those are really great details, those are things not many people think about but you're absolutely correct.

    • @frankhamilton8257
      @frankhamilton8257 Před 2 lety +6

      @@Mrshotshell You obviously don't understand the concept. There's a reason every engine has an exhaust system and it has nothing to do with back pressure or noise. An exhaust system, whether it's zoomies (which effectively produces little or no back pressure) or otherwise, is not just there to direct exhaust gas to be dumped out at some point rear of the driver. From an engine perspective (all other issues aside) an exhaust system is ideally designed to "tune" the air flow as it travels through the engine (particularly in an engine with normal induction), and while doing so, provides a certain level of protection to the exhaust valves from being exposed to ambient air, which will ultimately weaken or fatigue the alloys in the metal.

    • @nerd1000ify
      @nerd1000ify Před 2 lety

      @@frankhamilton8257 My understanding is that the issue with no headers and the valves is thermal shock, i.e. cold air hitting the 800+ degrees C valve cools it very rapidly, over time this can cause cracks to grow in the valve until it breaks. Should not be a serious issue for such a small motor, smaller valves generally don't get as hot because they have more area to conduct heat to the head relative to the amount of heat they absorb. Also glowmotors run on methanol with a hefty dose of oil (usually 20% or so), which naturally burns a lot cooler than gasoline.
      More broadly, I suspect that this is an engine specific issue. Many WW2 fighters had 'stub' exhausts, the 'header' if you can call it that was no more than a short nozzle that directed the exhaust flow backwards as it came out of the ports on each cylinder (for bonus jet thrust!). These would surely be candidates for the thermal shocking issue, but on the contrary most of them had more trouble with burnt valves than cracked ones, leading to the use of sodium cooled valves, stellite valve seats, etc.
