  • Trying is not a bad thing. Instead of white-knuckling, teeth-gritting, clenched fists, trying to be more in control, is there a better option? If trying harder is not getting you where you want to go, what do you do? Join John Ortberg in this series called First Thoughts as he talks about this.

    BIBLE VERSE:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” - Matthew 11:28-30 (my.bible.com/bible/111/MAT.11...)

I found this via the Bible app studies. It is the BEST study by far that I’ve done out of hundreds on the app. God bless this great ministry

Selah...ahhh! I’ve been told that when I’m on a Mission, there’s an intentional look or walk about me. I’ve been told It translates “get out of my way.”. Help me Lord to remember to try softer in these moments.

John, I’m sharing this with my men’s group tonight, we All need to try softer.
My wife and I love starting our morning with your wisdom. Bless you

All the years that I coached high school football and swimming, I tried to communicate "try softer" in a lot of different ways that I felt never was completely understood by my athletes. I told them to not to forget to enjoy the fact that they had prepared and now were ready to just compete. I used the words, "just play or just swim," but try softer is a much better phrase that I wish I had learned back then. Jesus provides so much help for us that we don't need to do everything ourselves, as long as we depend upon him. The yoke that is built for us is designed with him helping. Thanks for bringing more clarity and better words into this concept.

Thank you, John. Great antidote for those of us who try to muscle our way to joy, grace, etc. Something I've tried my entire life. I just read a book by Aundi Kolber on this topic which really was helpful. Highly recommend to those who struggle with this personality trait. Finally, love knowing I'm going to wake up to your talks in the morning. Thank you.

Great word, John. Thanks for inviting us to consider such an important question: Who’s yoke will I choose this day, mine or Jesus’?
