    No, Henry is not "slow about that". In the Middle Ages only nobles and scribes were able to read. Henry is a commoner, a peasant, and as such had no access to learn how to read.

    • @BarokaiRein
      @BarokaiRein Před 3 lety +12

      This is false. People weren't illiterate by our standards back then, but they were by their own. What do I mean by this? Well even most peasants could read and write their own language, but if they couldn't read the bible, which was written exclusively in Latin they were considered illiterate.
      The idea is that if you can't read "the most important book in the world" you can't read at all. Also in some areas of medieval england you had to not only read and write latin but also french on top of english to be considered literate.
      The common misconception about people being illiterate back then has been disproven several times over the years. Like just for example we have proof that peasants writing letters to each other was common practice. Also the amount of books that were essentially farming manuals is quite staggering.

      @@mrst8372 it’s pretty safe to assume letters were written on paper, which is something that would biodegrade very quickly. I doubt people were storing any large amount of letters written by common people in a proper place, so there probably isn’t a large proportion of all the letters written at the time that survive. Who is to say to that common folk didn’t teach their own children and others in their community how to read and or write without a schoolhouse? I think it’s not safe to assume at all that schools were prevalent in history like they are today.

      @@colt547 Paper? There was literally no paper during the Middle Ages in Europe, until around 1400 becoming relatively available. All books, more precisely, "codices", were hand-written on parchment. Therefore, books were rare and very expensive, and most people cannot afford to learn how to read. Massive printing press was relatively available around 1450. Though the period still could be defined as the Middle Ages, it is not the common impression of the concept.
      Nowadays, there are lots of monographs about this topic, such as, a book about the codices by the Oxford University Press. Literacy rates during the Middle Ages is very low, it is a solid conclusion. By the way, depending on how to define literacy, even today, there are probably millions of American adults who can not read these comments fluently. In case of evidences needed, U.S. Department of Education provides survey results and data.

    To grind a little faster after level 5 and before level 10 in alchemy, you can abuse the "Trial and error" perk. It allows you to make more mistakes, so for example, you can brew the marigold decoction without even boiling the water. The same goes for the poison, you can brew it without boiling the oil. It saves a bit of time and makes the grind a bit less tedious, you just drop the herbs in the cauldron and use the phial on it.

    Instead of waiting to put the marigold in one at a time, just put it in the plate next to the mortar. Lets you add as many herbs as you like to it, ground or not, and allows you to mix it. Say you have a recipe that calls for 4 herbs, and 2 of them are the same, and one is ground, you can put the 3 unground herbs in there, and grind the ones that need it and empty the mortar onto the plate and you're good. Can just grab the plate and empty it into the cauldron.
    Also, boiling isn't always necessary. Marigold Decoction is a perfect example actually. You just needa boil it once according to the recipe. Instead of doing that.. Just pour water, put every herb into the plate, empty the plate into the cauldron, pour into the bottle. Done
    Reason this works is that you can skip 1 step by default (Boiling for multiple turns is still 1 step) and you can get Trial and Error to skip 1 more. So if you needa boil a potion 2 seperate times and you have that perk, just simply.. Don't boil it. You don't need to. Much faster

    Idk if it's a patch or something but didnt hear this in the video; levelling alchemy by manually doing it is not only faster but also automatically gives you 3 options for the price of 1 without perks as well as 40 exp a pop. Using auto potion whether level 1 or lv3 you only get like 4 exp a pop . Time wise sure you lose a bit, but if you want the skill maxed, manual is faster. If you're after cash, dont auto brew until after lv13
    Edit also remember you dont need to heat up the pot, just add ingredients in order and collect. Alchemy automatically without perks let's you get away with 1 error without penalties (no loss in exp or quantity) so you can just add water. Nettle, 2x other one and collect with vial

    Yeah, but you can only sell these to specific vendors. And they don’t typically carry a lot of money. I routinely raid bandit camps and take everything off them stockpiling their loot and then clear out the armor smith and sword smith in rattay. Netting almost 30-40k every time.

    • @PsFlux
      @PsFlux Před 6 lety

      ConceitedCynic much like the swordsmith though, the more you sell to them, over time they because more wealthy as they resell at insane prices, so the more you deal with them, the more money you can make off them.

    • @samepo3102

    • @HurriShane00
      @HurriShane00 Před 5 lety

      Like Se7enity pointed out. The more you sell to a vendor, the higher in groschen total they will have. Sell to the max of what they have and wait a couple of days (think it's 3...maybe 4) and their totals will go up. Peshek for me right now is at 13K. The armourer in Rattay is around 15K and I've barely started.
      I think this guide is more about earning more legit than raiding the Weaponsmith and Armoury, especially early on when you don't have the lock picking or pickpocketing to get the the keys from the weapon and armorsmiths.

    Fast way to brew the mari potion. Add the nettle and the 2 marigolds in the dish, next hit the bellows 4 times to get the water boiling, then add the contents of the dish into the boiling water, and finally grab the phial and use it on the cauldron. You're done.

    I know I'm late but I just have to say, you're not boiling the ingredient properly if you do it the way he's doing it. One bellow and that's enough? No sir, I myself pump the bellow 4 times when i start the fire and let the thing boil and subsequent ingredients take 3 pumps of the bellow to boil once the fire is lit . You can literally here and see the liquid boil, what he's doing is just cooking it. If you follow the recipe to the T you stand the chance of crafting 3 potions for the price of one without the auto brew option.
