  • Episode 54: MSX Computers
The MSX computer line was a joint venture between ASCII Corporation and Microsoft Japan to standardize PCs in the '80s between the various hardware manufacturers at the time. Developers like Konami launched many of the franchises that would become very popular on later platforms - Metal Gear, Gradius and Bomberman to name a few. In this episiode of RETRO Buyer's Guide, I take a look at my Sony Hit-Bit MSX1 computer and show off some of the games that defined the MSX computer line.

Metal Gear 2 theme music, actually an MSX2 game with SCC sound chip build in, Penguin Adventure the sequel to Antarctic Adventure, fantastical!

Casio also released MSX computers as well in Japan, so I'm sure it gave them some interest to develop titles for the line as well.

Some of Konami's titles also saw a release on the ColecoVision during it's twilight era including Antarctica Adventure and Athletic Land (which was reprogrammed as a Cabbage Patch Kids game).

Hahaha. Good to know Mike. As for me...so far, so good bro. Always looking to add new members to Atariage with the help of the Neo-Geo thread, and finding new content to add to the thread as well. 8^)

Feel free to message me on here, but have you checked out My Life in Gaming's PVM and RGB Master Class videos? They contain a wealth of knowledge about that stuff. I am by no means an expert. There was a lot of trial and error in getting my set up running.

RETRO Buyer's Guide yeah i saw it i just kind confused about bnc male or female? Which one connects to the pvm 1942q? And the female or male rca? I bough the bnc male to rca female so i can just plug my composites into it hopefully thats the right one, And also i bough an euro scart for my super nintendo how do i know if i need a female or male scart? I hear it was a female so i bough that

There's a lot to unpack here. So first BNC is a connector type that plugs into the PVM. SCART is a European connector type. Whether you need male or female connections depends on how you've got your consoles feeding RGB into the PVM. If you're using a converter box like the Shiny Bow, then you need male SCART connections to feed into it and BNC female connectors for the component video cables coming out of the Shiny Bow. If you are going directly from the console to the PVM, you need a BNC cable with a female SCART plug on the end like this: www.ebay.com/itm/Female-RGB-Euro-SCART-to-4-BNC-Audio-Cable-Sony-PVM-Sega-Genesis-SNES-Neo-Geo/192496879149?hash=item2cd1b5462d:g:tQQAAMXQAEFSD-4B

RETRO Buyer's Guide thank you yeah thats the one i got, i was just confused about the bnc adapters by itself ones you connect to the composite to the tv, i got ones say bnc male to female rca composite the standard composite cable from nintendo to connect to the pvm is that right one? Im get scart for other consoles but for now im just using composite/ s-video for my gamecube the picture looks amazing i love it

You only need the BNC adapters if you're using a SCART to component converter box. If you bought that cable I listed above, then you don't need them. If you are using a converter box to component, then you need male BNC connectors to female RCA.
